Breaking: ABC renews 'Castle,' Better Off Ted,' and 'Scrubs'

The renewals and pick-ups are flying fast and furious this weekend. On the heels of Fox’s big Dollhouse reprieve, ABC has handed second-season renewals to Castle and Better Off Ted. Scrubs, meanwhile, will return for a ninth season (Zach Braff will be back for six episodes). Among new shows, ABC has given the green light to comedies Cougar Town (starring Courteney Cox), Hank (starring Kelsey Grammer), and The Middle (starring Patricia Heaton), and dramas Happy Town, V, Eastwick, and the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced The Forgotten. No word on the fate of Lauren Graham’s The Bridget Show, and I’m guessing, at this point, no news is bad news.

Is it true Braff and Chalke are signed on for 6 more episodes to help transition the series?

That is awesome and i am the first one to comment. I also thought Scrubs ended nicely, but now we get a forced 9th year. I think it may be a mistake like the last season of That 70s Show. Sorry but i think the Scrubs ended nicely and i may not be back. But hurray for Castle, i stayed away because if i enjoyed it and it didn’t get a renewal i would have been mad but now i have to catch up. Thanks Aus!

Whoo! I’m so relieved to hear about ‘Castle’! I really enjoy that show, more so every week, and am sooo glad to have it back!

  • Emily

Did they ever show the season finale of Better off Ted??

  • Sean

This is one of the best, if not the best shows on televison. It has impecable comic timing and is smartly written. I am so excited that it is coming back for another season. Hopefully more people will catch on to the brilliance of the show!

  • Tess

And still nada about “Samantha Who?”. ABC are really making us wait this one out aren’t they.

  • Marc

I’m bittersweet about the news that Scrubs was renewed. On one hand its one of my favorite shows and I’d love to see it back but at the same time I loved the way this last season ended and it felt like a perfect end to a great show. I’m afraid that this might drag it out and ruin the series a little bit especially if J.D. is only in 6 episodes. I hope I’m wrong

I am so glad Better off Ted was renewed!!!! Best new show of the year!!!! I love that show!!!

  • dave

OMG I’m unbelievably excited about Better Off Ted! It was my favorite new comedy of the year, and I had a nagging feeling that ABC was going to give up on it. I’m so happy they are keeping it, it’s hilarious! It quickly became one of my favorite shows. I’m also excited about Cougar Town and V!
I absolutely love Scrubs, but I think it would have been better off ending this season. Once Zach Braff is gone, it’s going to feel very forced. He’s the heart of the show, it won’t be the same without him. I don’t care much for the fact that they want to turn it into a comedy version of ER, where they just keep rotating characters in and out like a soap opera.

Hopefully we’ll get a bit of good news about The Unusuals soon. I really like it, so I hope ABC gives it a chance.

    • robert108

I agree about The Unusuals; it’s my favorite cop show ever, and that’s saying a lot.

  • James

WOOO for Better Off Ted. However, they never aired the “Season finale” even though it wasn’t very finale-ey. If you want to watch it, its on abc.com

  • Mori

I have to agree about scrubs, the last episode should have been the series finale. The show was about JD and his not so merry group of medical professional. I just don’t see how this going to work, but I’m sure ABC will find a way to mess this up.

  • Guenivere

What about new shows? Any word yet on what newbies will be filling in for the fallen?

  • RP

OK….if they INSIST on renewing SCRUBS even after that amazing send off…maybe they should just make it a spinoff and change the name….i think SCRUBS ended nicely and we should leave it at that before it becomes one of those shows that overstays its welcome and becomes another show altogether
