Of course ratings were down because the season was so lackluster. Get rid of the wildcard, Kara and judge’s save, along with Simon predicting the winner from the beginning, and we viewers might stick around.
No one will ever replace David Cook as my favorite idol and I admit that was what I looked forward to the most and rushed home not to miss (even though I was recording).
I think there were many were upset that it wasn’t Adam and Danny so they didn’t bother to watch. People actually said that.
Ummm, all TV shows are considerably down this season due to increased competition from internet and video games. Go to Nielsen Media and you will see. You cannot conclude that the reason why ratings are down are because of who’s in the top 2. CSI, Desperate Housewives, House among other top shows are down compared to last year.

The judges pimped Adam too much. It backfired. It was just too much. A friend of mine who gets EW said she thought the competition was over when she saw just Adam on the cover. That was plain wrong. Katy Perry with her capegate! Lol I didn’t care either way because season 7 was my favorite of all time. David Archuleta all the way! Not a Cook fan, but I respect his talent as well!
I boycotted this season becuase of the way treated David Archuleta last year. I watched the show when he was scheduled to come back and sing and that’s it. I felt like AI made dramam and threw David A under the bus to increase their ratings.
Last year was the BEST Idol season ever, and tho’ Archie was the real winner in many a (“non-bitter”) heart…nothing beat the two David’s finale. Last year’s whole group was the best ever…great vibe among them all, interesting personalities, not the usual “show-biz” egos…and many, many memorable performances from Archuleta, Cook, Castro, Carly, Michael Johns and Brooke. It’s the only Idol tour I ever went to because of DA, and because I liked all of the others too. This year I knew Idol would be more forced and contrived, feigned “drama”, hyping the contestants as the “most talented they’d ever had”
(last year’s beat them by far), childish schtick among the judges, the silly “fake” wildcard save…all bs. Last year had REAL drama, with stellar, memorable performances.
I watched this year…but “retired my dialing fingers” last year with my last 975 Idol votes for David A.
Season 7 was unique and special and will go down as Idol’s last real “harrah” as it fades over time.
David Archuleta is amazing! of course this year couldn’t keep up with last years ratings! last season was THE BEST SEASON of AMERICAN IDOL EVERRRR!!!!!!!
Dsquared FTW!
P2H__For those asking what Simon did last year to David Archuleta, you probably didn’t catch him and Seacrest on the talk shows just before the finale shows where they virtually told America not to vote for David Arhculeta, because he wasn’t a good enough rep for the show or whatever. That he was inarticulate. For those of you who remember Randy’s comment during the competition. Randy told David James: “You are so good. I thought, you are exactly what this show is about”. And young David was. He was the most perfect example of an American Idol that show had ever seen yet Simon and Seacrest said those awful things about him and America voted just as Simon told them. Simon raved about DJA, that “You have *IT*”, and, “I wish I had, what you have”. Yet he threw DJA under the bus. My thought is that it was because of Leona Lewis more than the contrieved David vs David. Lewis was Cowell’s cash cow and he didn’t want anything threatening his profits (IMHO).
to be continued…
Palm to Heart__So, continuing…I will also say that I had no intentions of giving Simon Cowell one moment of my time this year except for the time that David James Archuleta would be on that show. I wonder how many of you recall that last year during the finale competition Cowell was seemingly solidly in David corner. Did he say Archuleta scored a knockout? Even Cook seemed to have accepted defeat. Then on the final show, Simon apologized to Cook while putting Archuleta down and giving Cook a grinning WINK as if to say, you are the winner. Do you guys recall that? Those thing happened in front of the cameras. David James Archuleta is a young man who just can believe the position he finds himself in. He is the epitome of what an American Idol should be. Young and fresh and wide-eyed. A young man with an unmatched love for music. Who still can’t believe people are there for him. David James, never lose YOU. You have matured amazingly in a year. Buy a pair of Shades.
Palm to Heart
Overall, Season 7 was a million times better than Season 8. If it wasn’t for Adam (and possibly Allison & Kris), Season 8 would be utterly forgettable. Season 7 at least had a bit of excitement with actual competition–the entire Top 12 was good (Cook, Archie, Carly, Michael, Jason, Brooke, Syesha, etc). Can’t say that for Season 8′s Top anything.
As for the voting, ever since Season 2, the producers have been pretty honest about not being able to handle or accurately keep track of all the votes. They really should just limit the # of votes you can call in per phone. They basically said at a press conference (during season 5, I think) that Clay actually won Season 2. So it doesn’t suprise me that Adam really won this year.
Nothing will ever compare to season seven. Every one in the top twelve was excellent (especially Cook), but there were only a few good people this year. I like Danny at first, but then I didn’t. Allison and Adam were my favorites, but I like Kris too, being from Arkansas. I didn’t vote for either of them. Season seven had way more watchable performances (Always Be My Baby, Billie Jean, all of Cooks, Imagine…) What was up with Megan Joy? I honestly think that’s why their rating went down, because of crap Megan Joy and Lil.
