Joel McHale on his new NBC comedy: he won't leave 'Talk Soup' for 'Community'

Joel McHale promises he won’t give up his day job at E! to star in Community, a new single-camera comedy on NBC this fall about (crazy) life at a junior college. “I’m going to do both Talk Soup and Community
next fall,” McHale told EW while walking the red carpet of the American Idol finale on Wednesday. “People can
tune in to E! and NBC anytime they want to see me. The series doesn’t take as
much time as it does for us to do Talk Soup because we do that almost every day,
like a real job.”

Community also stars Chevy Chase and Yvette Nicole Brown (Hotel for Dogs) and will air on Thursdays.
“I play someone who has lied through life. He’s not very nice nor normal,” explains McHale. “We found out we are going to follow The Office until 30 Rock comes back and then we are taking over at 8 p.m., where we will provide plenty of inappropriate jokes for children.” (Reported by Carrie Bell)

OMG this looks hilarious! I laughed out loud about 5 times and I am pretty discerning when it comes to comedies. LOVE Joel McHale too, I’m definitely looking forward to this.

It’s The Soup, not Talk Soup! There’s no way that’s a direct quote by Mchale, because every other week he has to correct people in the media who call it Talk Soup.

Talk soup is a great launching pad and proves your comedic chops. http://travellovematch.com

I highly doubt Joel referred to his show as “Talk Soup”, considering his show is called “The Soup”. For crying out loud, do your research first, Ms. Rice.

HaHaHa this looks so funny! I was cracking up when that guy said the lines from the breakfast club! Can’t wait till the premeire!!!

  • Alex

That’s really weird he called it “Talk Soup,” since he makes fun of other people who call it that all the time.
Also, Yvette Nicole Brown is awesome – glad to see her in a big role!

Yeah I really doubt he called it “Talk Soup.” However, I am THRILLED that not only is he getting the opportunity to showcase his talents to a wider audience, but he will stay on the show (THE Soup) that introduced to him to many of his fans.
P.S. I just saw him live and he was HILARIOUS.

I am so excited for this, and for Glee…

Nice job not doing any actual work here dope, it’s The Soup not Talk Soup. Nice lack of effort.

I’m officially excited about this. I love Joel McHale. I was laughing through the whole clip. My favorite bit from the preview was when someone called his character “Seacrest”.

  • Amelia

Hark! Do my eyes deceive me? I was first gonna wail on you for calling The Soup “Talk Soup” {Total blasphemy!} but then I saw my beloved John Oliver in the trailer. I am so gonna watch this!

  • J

Really “Talk Soup” how long as THE SOUP been on the air and you can’t get it right. But the show looks hilarious and can’t wait to watch it!

  • Luisa

SEACREST!! Oh god this show’s going to be hilarious. LOVE Joel McHale. And, yeah, there’s no way in hell that’s a quote from him…unless he was joking?…I mean, come on, Talk Soup has been off the air forever! It’s THE friggin’ Soup! Jeez.

  • Fatima

So are we in the business of falsifying quotes now? Cause that’s what this looks like.

  • Michelle

I have high prospects for this show! Its Joel! He’s going to bring the funny on Thursdays [since we won't have 30 Rock for a while -SUPER SAD CRYING FACE-]. But yeah, GO NBC! You’re bringing back Chuck and bring this show. Slowly making your way to the top :)
