A mixed night of finales, premieres, and reruns found CBS and Fox duking it out for top ratings on Thursday. Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance tapped its way to a win from 8-9 p.m. but trailed a 9 p.m. rerun of CSI in the evening’s overall rankings. Ugly Betty‘s declining ratings failed to get a boost from its two-hour season finale, but Southland held its numbers from last week to finish out its freshman season.

Nigel turned off a lot of viewers last night, so I expect the ratings to taper off next week. I am forgoing my DVR subscription, I can’t handle another scene like that.
I was really disappointed by Nigel as well during his commentary to the male dance partners. I think if he had really tried saying what Mary mentioned, it wouldn’t have been as bad. I do love the show tho and watch for the dancing and not Nigel so I will definitely stay tuned.
Really enjoyed SouthLand & am sad to hear its going to be back on Fridays in the Fall, but i guess NBC thought it better to give us reality craptacular tv all summer long again and hold off til the Fall then to give us more than just 7 episodes of SouthLand. I will be back in the Flal, but tell me, does 7 episodes really qualify as an actual first season!?
Nigel has been in the dance world a very long time, and I do not believe that he is homophobic in as far as everyday people. He is very, very strict when it comes to what happens on the STAGE: male dancers MUST be masculine. This is traditional, whether we as individuals like it or not. The real problem last night (and you notice Mary and Sonja very quickly sobered and framed their critiques specifically and carefully) was the Nigel opened his big producer’s yap and said things in an obnoxious way. What Nigel essentially said was a slightly amped version of Mary and Sonja’s critiques, BUT he came off as a homophobic bigot and somewhat as a stodgy old fool. Like it or not, there is a decent group that does same sex ballroom, and also a decent following for it. Will it play well in Ohio should it be aired on SYTYCD? No. Will males dancers (straight or gay) that dance effiminately be successful in SYTCD? No. But there is nothing intrinsically wrong with what they did.
I think 30 rock is a good show, very quirky and high brow, but smartly written. http://www.cuteguysandgirls.com/

You people need to CHILL OUT. Every little thing someone says, you take it into a gay vs. straight war. I personally had no problem with what Nigel said. The same-sex dancers looked weird dancing together and it was confusing. In all the years I’ve watched this show, I’ve found Nigel to be really FAIR and honest in his critique. If he says you’re good you’re really good. Leave my nigel alone and stop creating a slur when there is none
