'Dexter' exclusive: John Lithgow nabs killer role

Dexter
has found its next Big Bad.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that John Lithgow is joining the season 4 cast as Walter Simmons, an unassuming suburbanite who has been living a dual
life as one of America’s most prolific and deadliest serial killers. When the mad man (who is dubbed the “Trinity Killer” because he always kills in threes) relocates to Miami, Dexter becomes obsessed (or inspired?) by his efficient killing methods and ability to evade capture for almost three decades. (This is the new antagonist role exec producer Sara Colleton teased back in April.)

Dexter‘s fourth season premieres on Sept. 27. Oh, almost forgot, bonus casting scoop: Keith Carradine is reprising his role as Deb’s daddy-figure ex, F.B.I. Special Agent Frank Lundy, for multiple episodes.

    cant wait!!
    great scoopage!

He has been living a “duel” life? With pistols at 10 paces, or with swords?

  • Jay

Duel life? Proofread articles before posting them, much? Or all faith is in spell check?

This is going to be one helluva birthday present for me… (/27 is my b-day…YAY ME

Oh dear. Pistols or swords? I don’t think he’d do well with pistols.
That said, I’m glad he’ll be there; I look forward to it!

John Lithgow … wasn’t he big in movies a few decades back? ;)

Sounds really good. Much better than that whole Jimmy Smits/Miguel crap last season. Awesome show, but they almost lost me over that one.

Good news. John Lithgow is a great actor. It will make this show even better.

    Buckaroo Banzai!!

  • Interesting…

So, is John Lithgow the “Jeff Daniels-type” of actor the producers were looking for? I’m not complaining about Lithgow (in fact, I look forward to seeing him on Dexter). I’m just wondering what is meant by a “Jeff Daniels-type” of actor.

Wow…GREAT addition to the cast! He’s an amazing actor who is funny, yet can play the disturbed character well.

Sounds like they are doing the same formula again. I hope they put a fresh spin on this one. Maybe this time he won’t form a “friendship” with the killer. This might be good. I love John Lithgow.
BY THE WAY, that picture cracks me up. I remember that episode. It was awkward how he put his finger on the table. It still looks awkward :)

So lifting from press releases counts as “exclusive” now?

Ok, I still can’t get over the fact that Michael Hall married the actress who plays Deb. Yikes, what a bone rack she is. I hope this season will be A LOT better than 3 because I was very disappointed with the writing. Also, I hope they’ll find some interesting plot line for Rita as it’s becoming tiresome to try to figure out what other cosmetic procedures she’s done to her face and body.
