It sure sounds like it based on this season 9 casting notice that just fell into my lap: MASON: Late 20′s early 30′s. Read the full post.

Why couldn’t it be Bruce Wayne? Sounds like the worlds greatest detective/playboy to me. Also Hollis Mason was the original Nite Owl in Watchmen, and Nite Owl was very much the Batman stand in in that story. Here’s hoping they bring the greatest character DC Comics has to offer to Smallville after 8 years of waiting.

It can’t be Bruce Wayne because the people that own the rights to Batman tv/movies have explicitly prohibited the use of Batman in this series. The whole reason we have Smallville is that the original pitch for a Batman series focused on Bruce Wayne was rejected.

the “people that own the rights to Batman” are Warner Brothers who own all of DC Comics including Superman, Green Arrow, The Flash, Aqua Man, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, and Zantanna. All of which have appeared on the show. The reason he hasn’t been on the show before is because they were worried people wouldn’t be able to accept a young Bruce Wayne on TV as well as in a feature film being played by a different actor. Which is completely ridiculous. If they were going to change there mind, now would be the time to do it. There probably won’t be a Batman movie out for another 3 years. By then Smallville will be off the air. If they let Batman loose, maybe their other some other big characters who they’ve held back on us will show up on Smallville too (Wonder Woman and Green Lantern). How cool would that be? It’d be great if it was Batman. It could be Batman. It’s probably not. But let me dream for the next couple of months anyway.

Though I would love it if it is a cover for Bruce W. it would not make sense since the writers have painted GA as Smallville’s version of Bruce W for a few seasons now. Even his relationship with CK is similar to Supes and Bats in the comics. I don’t think it is Zod either since he has never been charismatic etc. last time I checked. Besides I think Sam W. will appear as Zod next season anyway, maybe not as a main cast, based on what Faora had mentioned and the scene near the mansion in the finale. Similar to some of the comments, I also think it might be Lex in a new body. One thing, I do hope he is not going to be another of Lois’ love interests; since it would appear that the writers seem to enjoy passing her from charismatic guy to charismatic guy to charismatic guy. For all that is holy, please make CK emotionally tougher, and not such a whiner. Oh and at least have CK fly.

this is lex luthor. in a new body… there were signs in season 8 that lex was totally destroyed…remember episode of lana with powers? guest appearance by Luthor? it all makes sense… there’s no Bruce W, ZOD or any other new character… it’s just lex and if it is, this will fail, because Michael was bigger than the character Lex himself.

i believe that this is a new character and originally i had assumed it to be a cover for bruce wayne. But after Zod being released and Doomsday being killed it would be interesting to see Sam Witwer play Zod, referencing the episode Bloodlust when Faora trapped in Lois’ body said that he looked just like his father. But it would be a little suspicious if they did that. It would be nice to see Zod in human form playing a new character who the audience and the cast would have no idea it is him. I look forward to season 9 and i pray that it revives what made Smallville great and what it has been missing in the past 2 seasons.

i thinm that amson is zod reborn and season nine will cover mason learning who he really is. meanwhile he’ll befriend clark and start to lose control of himself only to become a monster like doomsday(metaphorically speaking)

Go to Hell Coochiexyz! This show is awesome! (It does need some minor adjusments and maybe a few tweeks here and there but hey, no one is perfect.) What the show needs is to cut out the cute and cuddly stuff( they have tv shows like 90210,gossip girl, and Soaps for that.)Get down to Clark’s legacy please.

You need think about it. Despite the emails, the overwhelming evidence showing global warming is happening hasn’t changed.
“The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus . . . that tells us the Earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity,” Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told a House committee. She said that the e-mails don’t cover data from NOAA and NASA, whose independent climate records show dramatic warming.
