'Nurse Jackie': Showtime orders second season

Tags:

Showtime has ordered a second season of Nurse Jackie, a new comedy starring The Sopranos’ Edie Falco as a Percocet-snorting ER nurse. The show’s heavily-promoted June 8 premiere attracted a record number of viewers (a cumulative 1.35 million after two airings) for a Showtime series debut. The comedy followed the fifth-season premiere of Weeds, which attracted 1.65 million after two airings – a 25 percent improvement over its fourth season finale.

Real lawyers are offended by Law & Order. The key word is ‘real’. It’s entertainment. That’s all. Enjoy!!

    • Linda Griffin

Why be offended, unless your doing it. There are alot of people that enjoy it soplease don;t ruin it for the rest of us.

  • Nurse Nancy

There is no way “Jackie” would be able to fulfill her nursing duties while abusing oxy. Doesn’t matter how high her tolerance is to its effects.

    • Crystal

Interesting point of view, considering the fact that I take percocet every day for severe chronic back pain and am a full time student, wife and mother of 2. I was just invited to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars for my grades. There is no way that I would have been able to do all that I do, and so well, before the meds.

you are so wrong. Most of us nurses got into nursing for easy access to such drugs. Not all of us get high off of them, as Jackie said, just a little bump to get me through the day. This is the most realistic show I’ve ever seen in my life. Even more oddly, I have a family member that is EXACTLY like doctor O’Hara, down to wearing mismatched shoes and being chief of surgery, and she’s a chain smoker as well as doctor o’hara, buys clothes wears them once, throws them out, I swear they must have gotten that idea from her. But Nancy, I have to say, if you don’t think this show is realistic, then you are living in some kind of fantasy world. Personally, as a Registered Nurse, I like my pills, and have several co workers who do as well, there is a code in nursing, if you are a nurse, you know, you NEVER rat on another nurse. I have worked 70 hour weeks taking Percodan or Tylenol 4, and I’m fully functional. You should know, not ALL controlled substances are counted closely in a narcotic count like oxy. There are plenty of drugs on the med cart for the taking. Plus, in my state, wnen a pill gets dropped on the floor, you have to “throw it away”, and document it. In 25 years, I’ve never seen them rummaging through the garbage to make sure we actually threw them out.

Get over it ….It’s fiction and it’s just a show…a darn good one at that. Seriously if entertainment is supposed to be like real life it’d be dull like when you go to a REAL hospital…who wants to watch that garbage… I love the show and I’m glad they’ve already ordered a second season I will watch it!

  • NursesLoveNurseJackie

1.35 million people disagree with you Nancy. I am a nurse as well and I absolutely love the show, as well as the other nurses on our staff.

  • Bo

Great show worth getting Showtime just to watch it.

    • Linda Griffin

Yes i really enjoy this show.
I love her she’s just great as for the whole staff.I would like to know when the second season begins and what time,I live on the east coast in md.I understand it will be on showtime possibly 3-22, is that right and if so what time. Thankyou and 2 thumbs up to your actors and writers and whomever else is envolved.

Somebody out there is going to be offended by ANYTHING you fictionalize, my little hall monitor. Can the Nancy’s of the world please just let us enjoy the little things in the very short life we are alloted without destroying them because they dont like them.

If only Weeds can get back are characters to Agrestic CA. Season four made my top spot as being my least favorite season of weeds.

I’m so happy for Edie Falco. I haven’t seen the show yet, but I’m sure she is shining as Nurse Jackie. Way to go Edie! I guess you will get another Emmy!!

  • EntertainmentBlogger

Edie Falco is in a class by herself. I remember being wowed by her in OZ — way before SOPRANOS. Glad to see she is in a new show.

TV producers come up with a show that depicts a nurse using drugs to make it thru the day. The general public thinks this is understandable. For a nurse to steal from a patient is against the law and as a nurse there isnt supposed to be any bias opinion when giving patient care. Wether tha person is a criminal or not isnt supposed to make a difference and it dosent give the right to steal of flush body parts down the toilet, but the general public says this is commendable. Question to the public, would you understand if you found out your nurse / health care provider was treating YOU while on high on drugs? & how would you take it if you awoke in the hospital to find your money missing or one of YOUR body parts missing fearing that a dope feind hospital staff member may have flushed it down the toilet or perhaps worse?

    • Crystal

If you don’t think that this kind of thing DOES happen on occasion, you have led a very sheltered life, buddy. Of course the majority of people are not flushing body parts, but how many people go to work high on something? And how many do you think go to work high on something that is prescribed to them for a legitimate reason? Just because you need pain meds does not mean you don’t get the same effect as everyone else when you take them. Also, it’s a TV SHOW! The Smurfs isn’t realistic either, but I bet you don’t rant about it.

    • calvin Morris

I know you are going to be shocked when you learn that those cartoon figures are not really talking. This nurse show is for fun, They are not going to Kaiser to treat people. It’s to bad how far off the scale this country has gone. You could spend some of your time lashing out at all of this nude junk on TV, or is that all right.

  • Knockoffthewhiningalready

Ok here we go again. The GENERAL public knows how real nurses are. They are aware of the Duh! on that. Even still we have debbie downers coming on here knocking the show for it’s unrealistic depiction?? Helloooo if there are actual people who watch the show and think “Oh that’s how nurses act!” Then there is something incomprehensibly wrong with them on a mental level. It is JUST ENTERTAINMENT and meant just that! Besides we all know real nurses just hang out at the counter chatting and roll their eyes when you ask them even the smallest of questions. Plus if it was about REAL nurses that I personally have encountered it would of never made it to an actual show it’d be boring and annoying just like REAL nurses. Get over it people it’s a SHOW all you know it all party poopers.

Someone said “there is no way Jackie would be able to fulfill her duties abusing oxy”. Uh….that is not true. Unless you are an addict how would you know? I am a recovering addict who WAS a nurse…I did this same thing every day and then I got caught. C’mon people, don’t be so naive as to think that the medical professinal caring for you is perfect and has no flaws, especially addiction to opiates. Thanks

  • addict

As a recovering addict, I was abusing about 50 mg.’s of percocet a day for about 2 years. Trust me- it does affect your job performance, family, motor skills, reaction time, and judgement. NOT IN A POSITIVE WAY EITHER.

  • hollie

    “Addict”
im a recovering addict to…give the show a break its freakin great..its just a show everybody handles their drugs differently…you should know that…ReLAX….its a funny show…she doesn’t go and get all high she takes little bites at a time…get over it…when you have some recovery under your belt, you’ll think its funny to…recovery, not clean time…
