This just in: Bryan Fuller exits 'Heroes'

Heroes-Bryan-Fuller_l Just as Heroes was gaining some creative momentum comes word of another setback: Bryan Fuller has vacated his post as consulting producer.

The acclaimed Pushing Daisies auteur tells me that he left to focus on developing new projects for NBC, and not (as some have speculated) due to creative differences with series creator Tim Kring.

“I’m crafting two pilots right now and it’s a lot of work,” admits Fuller, who has an overall deal with NBC. “It was just too hard to [juggle] Heroes and my development; something had to give.”

Fuller’s exit was first reported by Herc at Ain’t It Cool News.

Fuller returned to Heroes last December, shortly after ABC dropped the ax on Daisies. Many (yours truly included) credited him with the show’s end-of-season creative rebirth.

Reaction to Fuller’s exit? Are you as bummed as I am? Sound off below!

Actually Michael, the Nick C Blog broke this news before Herc and you.

Fantastic news! His talents are wasted on crap like Heroes.

  • Snarf

I think I’m dunzo as far as Heroes is concerend.

  • Christine

Hey, his talents are deserved elsewhere. I’m definitely game for anything he’ll make if it’s anything like Dead Like Me or Pushing Daisies:)

  • shuggins

Oh great! Heroes is probably in their last season then….BOOOOOOO!!!!! Come back Brian Fuller!!!!

  • Briana

Lie. Lies! No!!!!!!!! First Pushing Daisies (RIP). Now, Heroes. What’s next? All of a sudden Dexter’s going to end?

  • Anitamargarita

I’m with Christine – Bryan’s talent is wasted on that show. I cannot wait to find out what his new project is!

  • Thataboy

Good! Heroes is a piece-of-crap, dumbed-down show. The man behind Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies should not be wasted on something so pedestrian.

Who else wasn’t going to be happy with Bryan Fuller’s return to Heroes unless “Millie” ended up losing an eye, then going to live with her shut-in sister with whom they had a niece who just died but not really becuase she was brought back to life by her piemaker childhood sweetheart but they can’t touch or she’ll die forever so they solve crimes and rename the show something lawsuit-proof like Daisies Pushing?

Still in shock over this. How the hell could Heroes let him go leave ? Creative differences ? Are you kidding me? Heores should be listening to everything Bryan Fuller says! Would have brought the show back to Season 1 greatness. Now I am not sure.
BUT I will still watch. Heroes til the end :)

He wanted off a sinking ship?
I totally agree, he deserves better than Heroes (and he had it with Pushing Daisies, thanks ABC).
It’ll be better for him to develop new stuff for NBC than to waste his time on Heroes.

And there goes Heroes down the drain. Such a fall. Oh well.
(And John Doe, nobody reads Nick C’s blog, not even himself *g*)

  • hello

I really don’t see a future for Heroes anymore. It will probably premiere with even lower numbers, it’s sad but volume 3 was pathetic writing that really hurt it.

This is odd. Most considered Heroes dead in the water before Bryan returned and only with his return did a small amount of hopeful buzz return. Now he’s out? How does that make sense? Wait – this is the network that is giving us “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here”. Now we see what they consider quality entertainment.

I’ve been rooting for this since Bryan came back to Heroes. He needs to develop his own original programs. He was hamstrung by Heroes and would have ended up just treading water. Can’t wait to see what death-obsessed, quirky, voice-overed thing he comes up with next. As long as it has a female lead character with a boy’s name (George, Jaye, Chuck), I’m in.
