Exclusive: Adrianne Palicki returns to 'Supernatural'

Adrianne-Palicki-supernatural_l This should take some of the sting out of Adrianne Palicki’s impending Friday Night Lights departure: The actress has signed on to reprise her role as Sam’s ill-fated ex, Jessica, on Supernatural!

As you know, Jessica was whacked by a demon in the Supernatural pilot. She reappeared at the end of season 2 during Dean’s genie-granting alternate reality head-trip, but hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Details regarding Palicki’s return engagement are being kept under lock and key, but this much I can tell you: She’s booked for one episode and it’ll air early in the season (but not the season premiere).

Confirmation of her Supe comeback comes just days after EW.com broke the news that Palicki had landed the Jennifer Grey role in MGM’s Red Dawn reboot. She’s also expected to return to FNL this fall for a multi-episode arc to wrap up Tyra’s story.

Short-story-shorter: Girlfriend is busy!

What say you, Supe fans? Stoked Sam’s dead ex is being exhumed? Comment away!

Whitney’s out, Eve’s in on Glee

Exclusive: Eve joining 'Glee' club for arc

Categories: Glee

Glee-Eve_l And you thought the Glee kids were happy before: R&B supastar Eve has just inked a deal to appear in two episodes of the Fox musical as a no-nonsense girls’ choir director from a rival school, sources confirm to me exclusively.

As I previously reported, Glee producers were considering Whitney Houston for the part. But when she turned it down, Eve stepped up. (Who says no to the most buzzed-about series since… um, since I can remember?)

So what do you think? Do you agree that, especially while she’s walking the comeback trail, Whitney made a mistake by taking a pass? Think Eve will make everyone forget Whit was even in the running? Sound off below! (Additional reporting by Andy Patrick)

'Jon & Kate' going on hiatus following separation announcement

Fans of Jon & Kate will have to wait a few months before they’re reunited with the broken brood. According to TLC, after a retrospective of the couple’s 10 years together airs on June 29, the show will be on hiatus until Aug. 3. “During this time the family will take some time off to
regroup, and then a modified schedule will be in place to support the
family’s transition,” the network tells EW, adding that it will continue cementing its close relationship with the family.
“TLC continues to support the Gosselin family and will
work closely with them to determine the best way to continue to tell
their story as they navigate through this difficult time.”

'Jon & Kate' divorce: Lawyers weigh in on custody

Viewers may not have been shocked to hear Jon and Kate’s Gosselin’s divorce announcement last night, but most are left pondering a serious question: What will happen to the couple’s children if the break-up is indeed final? On the show last night, Jon and Kate said the children will continue living in the house the couple bought last year, but the parents will “flip-flop,” as Kate put it, depending on who has visitation rights.

Both parents seem committed to doing what’s best for the kids, but if there does turn out to be a custody battle, things may not be so simple. “I can’t recall a case where there were eight kids,” Los Angeles divorce lawyer Lynn Soodik says. “But let me just tell you this: If Jon gets four and Kate gets four, that’s not fair. So it’s not like money that you equally divide, because it’s not your right to have the children in an equal division. It’s what’s best for the children. And usually, they don’t split up siblings unless there’s a very specific reason to do so.”

At face value, simply being the kids’ mother gives Kate an advantage in a custody battle, but as celebrity divorce lawyer Raoul Felder points out, that certainly is not always the way it plays out. “The fine print says it’s women – mothers usually get custody of children.” However, he adds, “I think some judge would want to consider who was the moving force in this theatrical enterprise that they got the kids involved in. I think it’s going to be a bad mark for whoever it turns out to be.” Soodik agrees: “You probably know yourself couples with kids where the dad is a much better parent than the mom, and other times, you’re lucky the dad even knows the kids’ birthdays. It really depends on what’s been the best interest of the children.”

Although viewers have formed opinions on who the better parent would be from watching the show, the heavily-edited Jon and Kate footage should not figure into the judge’s decision. “The judge can’t even consider the show,” Soodik says. ”Because that’s not really evidence before him or her. Who knows what goes on in an editing booth. For example, let’s say a mom is a fabulous mom, but one day, does something bad. That might be what’s on TV. It’s not a good way to judge, because what is entertainment is not necessarily what happens the majority of the time.”

“I must say, I saw the show a couple of times,” Felder says. ”I wasn’t particularly impressed, because it looks like they’re both performing for the camera.”

Rihanna's attorney reacts to Chris Brown's plea deal

Categories:

EW spoke on the phone with Donald Etra, attorney for Rihanna, shortly after it was announced that Chris Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault in a Los Angeles courtroom today.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Was this a verdict worked out between the D.A. and defense counsel?

DONALD ETRA: The plea agreement was worked out between the District Attorney and defense counsel, yes.

And is it something you are pleased with?

The district attorney advised us of the plea earlier this afternoon, and Rihanna had no objection to the plea.

Was she planning to testify in compliance with the subpoena?

Yes. She was at court and she was ready and willing to testify. As of this morning, our understanding was Rihanna would be called to the stand.

This separation agreement — that they have to be 50 yards apart, unless they are at an event, in which case it’s 10 yards — can you elaborate on that?

Yes. The judge issued a stay-away order requiring Chris to stay at least 50 yards away from Rihanna and to have no contact with Rihanna. If they happen to be at the same industry function, then the 50 yards becomes 10 yards. But the no-contact order still is in effect.

And is that permanent or does it have a time limit? Will it be revisited?

The current order lasts for 5 years, although the judge said that after Chris is sentenced in August, she would consider reducing the full stay-away order to a limited protective order. Rihanna requested that there only be a protective order, namely that Chris be ordered not to annoy, molest, or harass her. Rihanna did not feel that a stay-away order was necessary in this case.

Is it your opinion and the opinion of Rihanna that the sentence is punitive enough?

Rihanna feels it’s a fair and just resolution to the case.

And does she have any desire to communicate with him outside of the bounds of the no-contact order?

Rihanna understands the terms of the protective order and of course will comply with those terms.

Is it your feeling that everyone is ready to move on or will there be further civil suits involved?

At this point, this terminates the criminal proceeding, in so far as a preliminary hearing or trial. What remains is sentencing, and then various court appearances for Mr. Brown to show that he’s complying with the terms of the sentence.

This just in: Bryan Fuller exits 'Heroes'

Categories: Heroes

Heroes-Bryan-Fuller_l Just as Heroes was gaining some creative momentum comes word of another setback: Bryan Fuller has vacated his post as consulting producer.

The acclaimed Pushing Daisies auteur tells me that he left to focus on developing new projects for NBC, and not (as some have speculated) due to creative differences with series creator Tim Kring.

“I’m crafting two pilots right now and it’s a lot of work,” admits Fuller, who has an overall deal with NBC. “It was just too hard to [juggle] Heroes and my development; something had to give.”

Fuller’s exit was first reported by Herc at Ain’t It Cool News.

Fuller returned to Heroes last December, shortly after ABC dropped the ax on Daisies. Many (yours truly included) credited him with the show’s end-of-season creative rebirth.

Reaction to Fuller’s exit? Are you as bummed as I am? Sound off below!

'Friday Night Lights' video: Connie Britton drops by with MAJOR scoop!

Connie-britton-ausiello_l[1] How do I love Friday Night Lights‘ resplendent, Emmy-worthy leading lady (and Ausiello TV guest) Connie Britton? Let me count the ways…

1)    She modifies her summer travel plans in order to appear on my fledgling web series.
2)    She breaks major freakin’ news about FNL likely ending in 2011: “I think the intention is to do two more seasons and then that will be it.”
3)    She says funny things that make me giggle. Like this: “I’m pretty sure in the next two seasons there’s a very strong possibility that Tami will have an affair with a student.”
4)    She humors me when I offer her Emmy submission advice (and video evidence to back it up).
5)    She breaks major freakin’ news about who will and won’t be back full time in season 4.

I could go on forever… or I could just direct you to our exclusive video Q&A after the jump. My typing skills suck so let’s go with option B. Enjoy!

'Scrubs' shocker: School's in, hospital's out!

Categories: Scrubs

Scrubs_l Scrubs boss Bill Lawrence said his cancellation-defying comedy would undergo an extreme makeover in its ninth season, and, man, he wasn’t kidding. When the show returns next winter, the action will shift from the hospital to the classroom and make med-school professors of John C. McGinley’s Dr. Cox and Donald Faison’s Turk.

“It’ll be a lot like Paper Chase as a comedy,” Lawrence tells me. “It’s going to be a different show. It’ll still be life-and-death stakes, but if the show is just Scrubs again in the hospital with a different person’s voiceover, it would be a disaster and people would be mad.”

Of course, Sacred Heart won’t go away altogether. Although J.D.’s old stomping ground no longer will serve as the show’s base of operations, the students will occasionally rotate through its halls — and bump into many of its familiar faces. In addition to McGinley and Faison, both of whom are expected to be full-time regulars alongside a quartet of newbies (most of them playing students), Scrubs vets Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and Ken Jenkins have agreed to make guest appearances. (Neil Flynn has a costarring role as Patricia Heaton’s husband in the new ABC sitcom The Middle, so his name-challenged Janitor will be MIA.)

“Med students in their first three years have to spend anywhere from 10 to 50 percent of their time at a hospital,” Lawrence explains. “And that’s when you’ll see some of the [original cast members]. Continuity-wise, Sacred Heart will still exist with those people still working there.”

But Lawrence insists “half the cast, if not 60 percent of it,” will be comprised of freshmen, one of which will be more recognizable than the rest. “[ABC] is really after us to hire a big name,” he reveals. “So one of them will be fairly famous.”

Ratings: People love CBS repeats and Fox's dancing foxes

Categories: TV Biz, TV Ratings

CBS swept Thursday night with its roster of trusty repeats, while Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance elimination hour earned by far the highest ratings for Adults 18-49. Meanwhile, the third installment of The Listener, NBC’s new procedural about a telepathic paramedic, continued to struggle; its viewership was down another 15 percent from last week’s episode. On the upside, “telepathic paramedic” turns out to be a fairly easy-to-master tongue twister. Say it five times fast in a sentence this weekend.

T.R. Knight confirms 'Grey's Anatomy' exit: 'It was not an easy decision'

Categories: Grey's Anatomy

TR-Knight_l Now it’s really official.

T.R. Knight has released a statement confirming what I first reported on Wednesday: His Grey’s Anatomy days are over.

“Leaving Grey’s Anatomy was not an easy decision for me to make. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to play this character and will miss my fellow cast and crew very much. I continue to wish them the very best, and wholeheartedly thank all of the fans who have supported me and the show with such passion and enthusiasm.”

Meanwhile, Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes just followed with her own statement…

“I think I speak for the entire Grey’s Anatomy family when I say we wish T.R. Knight the best in his future endeavors. He is an incredibly talented actor and a person whose strength of character is admired by all of us.”

The official confirmation comes just hours after word leaked that Knight’s co-star and real-life BFF Katherine Heigl will be sticking around next season.

As I reported on Wednesday, Knight is currently in talks to headline a Broadway revival of Lend Me a Tenor.

Thoughts? Relieved to be putting all this past us? Does Heigl’s return cushion the blow of Knight’s departure? Sound off below!
