Exclusive: 'American Idol' alum Allison Iraheta officially signed to 19/Jive

Allison-Iraheta-Idol_l And the record deals for American Idol season 8 finalists continue to roll in at a quick clip. After champion Kris Allen’s deal with 19/Jive and runner-up Adam Lambert’s deal with 19/RCA were announced earlier this week, EW has exclusively learned that 19 Recordings has also signed fourth-place-finisher, rocker Allison Iraheta, and that her debut album will be licensed to Jive Records, like Allen’s forthcoming disc. And just like the the albums from her two fellow alums, Iraheta’s is anticipated for a fall release. (Talk about an Idol-rific autumn!)

All week long, Idol fan sites like mjsbigblog were abuzz with rumors of Iraheta’s signing. The 17-year-old singer sounds like she’s barely processing the news herself: “I think I’m still in shock that this is happening — getting to record my first album and this whole awesome experience is a dream come true!” Allison said in a statement released to EW by 19 Recordings. (Excited? Check out PopWatch’s exclusive “Rocker Signed” video!)

Notably absent from the recent spate of deal-making? That’d be polarizing third-place finisher, Danny Gokey. Says a rep at 19: “There’s nothing to report just yet.”

'Nurse Jackie': Showtime orders second season

Categories: TV Biz

Showtime has ordered a second season of Nurse Jackie, a new comedy starring The Sopranos’ Edie Falco as a Percocet-snorting ER nurse. The show’s heavily-promoted June 8 premiere attracted a record number of viewers (a cumulative 1.35 million after two airings) for a Showtime series debut. The comedy followed the fifth-season premiere of Weeds, which attracted 1.65 million after two airings – a 25 percent improvement over its fourth season finale.

It's official: 'Futurama' is reborn!

Categories:

Futurama-returns_lHoly Bender Bending Rodríguez!

Six years after getting axed by Fox, Futurama is being resurrected on Comedy Central.

A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox Television confirms that the cable net has ordered  26 new episodes of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen’s late, great animated series to air beginning in 2010. The studio cites Futurama‘s “blockbuster” performance on DVD and in reruns on Comedy Central as the reason for its rebirth.

Hmmm… sound familiar?

“When we brought back Family Guy several years ago, everyone
said that it was a once in a lifetime thing — that canceled series
stay canceled and cannot be revived,” 20th Century Fox TV Chairmen Gary
Newman and Dana Walden said in a joint statement. “But Futurama
was another series that fans simply demanded we bring back, and we
couldn’t have been happier when Matt and David agreed that there were
many more stories yet to tell.”

Adds Groening: “We’re thrilled Futurama is coming back. We now have only 25,766 episodes to make before we catch up with Bender and Fry in the year 3000.”

I have a hunch Groening isn’t the only one doing a happy dance. (That’s your cue to start filling up the comments section.)

Ratings: 'The Bachelorette' grows, 'I'm a Celebrity...' tumbles

ABC’s has a minor summer hit with The Bachelorette. The dating competition wooed 7.2 million viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings; that’s a boost of 800k viewers from the previous week. Meanwhile, Heidi and Spencer’s last episode (or is it?) of I’m a Celebrity… failed to nab huge viewership with only 5.2 million tuning in. Comparatively, last Monday’s premiere scored 6.4 million for the network.

Scoop: 'Ghost Whisperer,' 'Tree Hill' do time warp (again)

One-tree-hill-whsiperer_l Okay, TV’s time jumping trend is officially Out. Of. Control.

A Ghost Whisperer insider confirms that producers of the CBS drama are toying with the idea of kicking the new season off five years into the future. The move would allow the show to introduce Jim and Melinda’s son as a pre-schooler instead of as a newborn.

As you’ll recall, the season ended with Melinda learning that her offspring would possess psychic powers even greater than her own. Probably a tough story to do with a burping, teething toddler.

Meanwhile, One Tree Hill — which famously leaped ahead four years at the start of season 5 — is mulling another flash forward at the onset of season 7 this fall. But this one’s not nearly as drastic; a OTH source says the action would likely pick up just one year later.

Thoughts?

Ratings: Lakers vs. Magic trumps Tonys

Categories: TV Ratings

Game 2 of the NBA Finals’ Orlando vs. Los Angeles matchup boosted ABC to a Sunday-night ratings victory with 11.2 million viewers. But CBS’ Tonys coverage shined as well: The Neil Patrick Harris-hosted festivities charmed 7.5 million viewers — a modest number, to be sure, but up 19 percent over last year’s show and the awards gala’s biggest audience in three years.

Scoop: Katee Sackhoff makes time for '24'

Categories: 24, Battlestar Galactica

Kateesackhoff_l
Suddenly, I find myself counting the minutes until 24‘s new season. Perhaps this is why: Katee Sackhoff is joining the cast!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the Battlestar Galactica heroine has been tapped to play the series regular role of Dana Walsh, a highly respected and down-to-earth data analyst at the new and improved New York branch of CTU.

Translation: Chloe-Starbuck catfight alert!

This fraktastic casting coup hit a road block last week when Sackhoff abruptly took herself out of the running, prompting me to post this blind item. But late Friday, word surfaced that the BSG badass was once again in the mix.

Here’s more scoop on Sackhoff’s character…

She’s in a relationship with
fellow agent Davis Cole (played by the just-cast Freddie Prinze. Jr.),
and she apparently has a skeleton in her closet she’s trying
desperately to keep hidden.

As I previously reported, 24‘s eighth season — which premieres Jan.
17, 2010 — will be set in the Big Apple and center on an assassination
plot against a visiting foreign leader (Slumdog Millionaire‘s Anil
Kapoor). In addition to Sackhoff and Prinze, new Day 8 blood includes
Forrest Gump’s Mykelti Williamson, Kissing Jessica Stein‘s Jennifer Westfeldt (as a journalist with ties
to Kapoor’s diplomat), and The Starter Wife‘s Chris Diamantopoulos (as
President Taylor’s Chief of Staff
).

Thoughts on Sackhoff’s casting? Is this going to be 24‘s best day ever? Comment away below!

Scooplets: 'House,' 'Big Bang,' and more!

TV-Scooplets-house_l •    Greek: ABC Family’s fratastic soap is firming up plans for Father-Daughter Weekend with the hiring of Everwood‘s great Tom Amandes as Jordan’s father. An ex-jock and avid sports fan, Pops is under the impression that his little girl is dating a football player. Imagine his surprise (read: horror) when he meets her real BF, Rusty.

•    House: With production slated to resume next week, House is looking to cast an actress in her early 20s to mid 30s who is proficient at playing the cello. Sounds like a run-of-the-mill patient-of-the-week, right? That’s what I thought. But then I read the fine print on the casting notice: Interested parties must be available from June 15 through July 15.  (Rumor has it this could be another one of House’s fellow cuckoo nesters.)

•    Pushing Daisies: Never underestimate the power of Ask Ausiello to right the wrongs of the world. Per an Emmy insider, hours after I reported that Pushing Daisies leads Lee Pace and Anna Friel had yet to enter their names for Emmy consideration, Academy officials approached their reps and gave them one last chance to get their clients on the ballot before the Thursday-night deadline. Jump ahead 24 hours: The official ballots are released and both Pace and Friel are on it!

•    Burn Notice: Producers of the USA smash are courting Tyne Daly to appear opposite her former Cagney & Lacey partner, Sharon Gless, for an episode to air in early 2010.  BTW, last Thursday’s Burn attracted 6 million viewers — the show’s most-watched season premiere yet. (Look for my ATV interview with Jeffrey Donovan later this week!)

Spoiler alert: 'Lost' mystery solved!

Categories: Lost

Dominic-Monaghan_l How very sneaky of you, ABC.

I just found out why Dominic Monaghan is appearing in ABC’s new promo campaign, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with Charlie being resurrected on Lost next season. But that’s exactly what the network wants folks to think. Why? Because they’re trying to keep under wraps the real reason he was playing table soccer with Patrick Dempsey, Courteney Cox, and Ed O’Neill in that clip.

This is the part where I warn you of an incoming spoiler and give you one last chance to bail before continuing on…

Okay, here it goes: The real reason Monaghan is featured in that
cheeky spot is because he’s actually joining the cast of another
hour-long ABC drama series as a full-time series regular. And the net’s brass want it to
be a surprise.

A big surprise.

As a result, they’ve kindly asked
me not to ID the show he’ll be joining. And, being the understanding and cooperative creature that I am, I very reluctantly obliged.

The fact is, assuming it doesn’t leak elsewhere, it will be a neat surprise.

But
don’t let that stop you from posting your theories in the comments
section. Which ABC show do you think Monaghan is joining full time? And
what character do you think he’ll be playing? Speculate away!

Breaking: Is Charlie returning to 'Lost'?!

Categories: Lost

Charlie-returns-to-lost_l That’s the vibe I got after watching a new ABC promo (embedded below) that just made its way onto the Internets. The cheeky clip, part of the network’s fall ad campaign, features new and returning ABC stars Courteney Cox-Arquette, Ed O’Neill, Patrick Dempsey, and… Dominic Monaghan?!

An ABC spokesperson declined to comment, but a network insider cautions against reading too much into the spot. “There’s obviously a lot of ABC talent in the promo,” the source points out. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that Dominic is returning to Lost.”

Monaghan’s rep, meanwhile, had this response when asked if his client was being resurrected on Lost. “You never know. Stay tuned.”

Watch the clip yourself after the jump and let the speculation continue in the comments section!
