okay i loved the character of ianto jones and Gareth is an awsome actor and while he won’t be on torchwood anymore maybe this will lead to seeing him on lots of other projects… I think that what rtd did is surprising and a little refreshing because life isn’t always what you want and people you love die, live with it life goes on. the character of ianto will forever live on in the memory of all that loved him.
Davies didn’t just kill off Ianto – he killed off all the interesting supporting characters, except for the ho-hum Gwen. Davies just did it for shock value – there was no reason to mess with such an interesting character mix.
On top of that, it hacks me off to see one of the first two MALE bisexual characters on TV be killed off so quickly.
I think that RTD was a bit stupid killing Ianto because everyone loved him. Owen and Toshiko were first and that upset us. But now Ianto is dead no one will want to wach because they will think “I’m not going to watch it because every one dies”. So RTD is doing a very good job losing fans. No ufence RTD but I cied all night when he died.
I agree with Jesse because it was a stupid deecision to kill of Ianto and not just because of the fans. What about Jack? how is he going to cope without his beloved companion?
If your monitoring this Garreth I just want to say you played Ianto PERFECTLY and I’m really sad he’s Dead.
If anyone is reading this I want to say that Ianto was a great charicter and I am very upset about this. And yesterday my mouse died so now I’m evan more upset!
oh my god. people!!! RTD killed ianto. big deal. the show is about life, and life sucks sometimes, and things rarely go the way you want them to. if you cant stand to face life, then you shouldn’t even bother going outside. as for me, i think killing ianto is what pushed jack to do the things he did. jack is a very real character. he has known pain, love, happiness, and heartache. he cant die so he must watch everyone around him die at some point. also, RTD isn’t saying he doesn’t want fans, he’s saying that if you dont like it, then thats just too bad and he isnt going to change it just because a few so-called-fans wanted it to go some other way. also, i’m on his side for saying that if you didnt like torchwood, you should go watch supernatural. my top 3 fav shows ever = doctor who, torchwood, and supernatural. amazing combination.
It’s a shame RTD doesn’t seem to like his fans at all. He may have created the damn thing but without the viewers it’s just going to end up sitting on a cancelled pile somewhere. I’m not mad about Ianto’s death, I’m mad about the fact that he thinks he can step all over his fans like this. wait till you see how much the ratings for SPN have gone up and COE have fallen
LOL. so yes, i’ve decided to stop watching TW after CoE (for various reasons including plotholes, incongruous storylines, generally bad writing. THAT and I really don’t want to sit around watching the Gwen and Jack with a little bit of Rhys show. There are just SO many things wrong with the character of Gwen, don’t get me started). but anyways. i’d never come across this article until JUST NOW. and guess what TV show i’ve been watching (completely by chance) ever since? thats right. SUPERNATURAL. and i must say, my love for it surpasses anything TW could have stirred up
its horribly angsty and hilarious without overdoing the hopelessness to a point where it’s ridiculous (like in TW), and, the one thing i’ll agree with RTD on: the Winchester boys. are. BEAUTIFUL. and yeah. so not brothers
I personally find it terribly amusing that so many people who loved COE are telling the rest of us to go watch Supernatural, a show that many of us have been watching and adoring for years already! So much for their stunning display of spite, eh? lol.
Wow, so now it’s down to Gwen and Jack. If only they started traveling together…and being that the next season is based in the States, my wish has come true! Now if only they had a Tardis and jumped around in time. Oh wait…then it would be DOCTOR WHO. But Torchwood is different because it’s about a TEAM of investigators…oh wait, it’s NOT because THREE OF THEM ARE DEAD! And two people is not a team.
I have nothing against killing off characters…but you have to bring new ones in. Either that or risk losing part of your fan-base who doesn’t like the new format of the show.
Not even that…for me it feels like the show has no “plan”. For example, Lost did all kinds of crazy stuff…but they had an ultimate plan…had it all mapped out.
Get back on track Torchwood. I’ll give you one more chance…and please don’t disappoint.
I wish all of the Iantomaniacs would can it about Gwen. You don’t like women. We get it. Maybe you SHOULD watch Supernatural since Kripke kills them all off for you. I think RTD’s mention of him is no accident at all (and he likes Supernatural).
The hysterical women really need to move on.
Too many comments have said that fans are whiny and immature, because they don’t want to watch the show anymore, now that Ianto’s dead.
Well, I’d just like to say that I will not be watching 4th series, even for the lovely Barrowman. Before anyone jumps in and claims that I’m being childish, let me explain:
For me, tv shows (and books, and movies, etc.) are never about the plot. They could have some entirely ridiculous plot (like the grand majority of TW plots) and laughable special-effects (ditto), but it doesn’t matter to me. To me, all that’s important is the characters.
Of the Torchwood team, I adored Tosh, Owen, Jack, and Ianto, and absolutely despised Gwen.
Why? Because, while the first four characters are fleshed-out and real, Gwen flips back and forth between characterizations, and seems to be completely bi-polar. Not to mention, her precious moral compass is determinedly pointing anywhere but at her own actions.
So, yes, now that they’ve killed off three of my favorite characters, and totally distorted Jack beyond all recognition, all that’s left is Gwen and a Jack that I don’t even want to look at.
I won’t be watching series 4, not because I got offended, and couldn’t handle it that a character died, but because they killed off everything that I loved about Torchwood.
Seriously RTD? You killed off one of the best charachters, and think that alot of people are still going to watch it?! Think again
I was suggested this web site via my cousin. I am no longer positive whether this submit is written by means of him as nobody else understand such distinctive about my trouble. You are amazing! Thanks!
I think most will agree that the 4th series was absolutely terrible and not at all the Torchwood we had grown to love over the years. It was unrecognizable. Unfortunate, since classic/real Torchwood is my favorite thing ever. But you can’t kill off 3/5ths of the brilliant original cast and replace them with completely flat, stereotypical characters who had no chemistry with the remainder of the original cast.
And really, it just wasn’t the same without Ianto. Torchwood isn’t Torchwood and Jack isn’t Jack without our beloved teaboy.
