Armchair Casting Director: 'The Smurfs Movie'

Tags: News

The A.C.D. is taking a rare detour to movieland to bring you exclusive scoop on (natch) The Smurfs Movie – specifically, details about the two lead roles currently being cast. Beware, the following info contains plot spoilers…

SOPHIE: A pre-teen girl who possesses enormous smarts and great imagination, but who is socially and physically clumsy. She discovers that the doll her dad brought home from Belgium is actually a living, breathing Smurf. And not just any Smurf — Clumsy Smurf! Sophie tries to get her mom and dad to embrace Clumsy as a member of the family, but ultimately realizes what he really wants is to reunite with his fellow Smurfs.

Armchair Casting Director suggests Michael Ausiello for this role.

SAM: Sophie’s 15-year-old brother. He’s a good kid, but has a tendency to be difficult and withdrawn. He gets involved in helping Clumsy return home and, as a result, bonds with his sister.

Armchair Casting Director also suggests Michael Ausiello for this role.

I would love to see Madeline Carroll from Swing Vote as Sophie – she is so cute and spunky and a fantastic actress. As for the brother, maybe Sterling Knight from 17 Again. He’s adorable, and has good comedic timing.

I’m disappointed. I thought this film might be a horror/action thriller dealing with the terrifying Purple smurf epidemic. Gnap!

  • Ava

I think Michael Ausiello would be great for either role–maybe both.

Mike, I’m really sorry, but I think this movie’s going to be a Garfield/Chipmunks/Looney Tunes-esque crapfest. I’m not saying that to be mean, because I really do love the Smurfs – I have the figurines and my 6th birthday cake had Smurfette on it. But let’s be real, this is gonna be a major pile of poo.

    Alex Ludwig for Sam

I am a huge smurfs fan. I would bet my circa 1983 Smurfs collection that this movie is going to suck. It’s a great idea to make it a movie but only if they style it like Spike Jonez Where the Wild Things Are.

Michael Ausiello should play the smurf!

  • A.D.

    John Lithgow should play Gargamel!!!!!

  • Jennifer

This is going to be awful. Have a smurfy day!

  • Erika

Whut? Real world humans interacting with the Smurfs? They should keep true to the HB version and make Gargamel the only human within 1000 feet of Smurf Village. I am already having bad flashes of cheeky HSM-loving preteens yelling, ‘like, OMG that’s so totally UNSMURFALICIOUS DUDE!’

I loved the smurfs as a kid. This movie sounds horrible. They are smurfing up a classic cartoon.

  • Frank P

    Megan Fox as Smurfette.
    You heard it here first.

  • Bill S

Michael, I will ONLY see this movie if you are in it in some capacity.

  • Snarf

But what’s not known is if the Smurfs smurf smurf, smurf. Smurf?
