'True Blood' scoop: Maryann and Jessica together at last

The 2010 Emmy season doesn’t officially kick off for another year, but the buzz starts right now: True Blood‘s Michelle Forbes (Maryann) and Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica) better make the supporting actress cut for playing two of television’s most deliciously demarbled divas. My only complaint is that executive producer Alan Ball hasn’t put the two powerhouses in a scene together. Not yet anyway. For more on that, check out the fresh batch of Blood video — featuring interviews with Forbes, Woll, Ball, as well as Nelsan Ellis, Rutina Wesley, and Sam Trammell — after the jump.

I just love Deborah, she’s unbelievable HOT.

Oh, Michelle Forbes- I love HER to pieces. True Blood is the most exciting show on tv. Thanks for the great interviews!

  • pollyprissypants

Great interviews! They seem like a really personable cast…and you gotta love Alan Ball :)

Um…for what reason and in what context would Maryann share a scene w/Jessica? That makes no sense, the way the show’s going. Even in the book, which yes, is very different, but still provided a general outline for this season, Maryann doesn’t really interact w/the vampires. So…why would Ball put them in the same scene? Yeah, they’re great actresses; that doesn’t mean they should do some contrived bit on the show in order to get them in the same scene. This was a weird post, Ausiello!

There are many fans who absolutely hate the Forbes character. It’s the writer’s fault though for being so slow and stupid with plotline.

Ausiello – keep the True Blood scoops coming. To think we are already halfway through the season has me bracing for the end-of-season blues already.

I’m a Bill fan, but I look forward to seeing the tension of the triangle build. And Jessica and Hoyt are beyond adorable.

Keep up the good work Mr. Ball!

amen to that, deborah ann wolff has been stealing every scene she’s been in. would love to see her on the big screen.

Ugh, Maryann is the second worst (next to Tara of course). WRAP UP THAT PLOTLINE ALREADY PLZ. I am praying Maryann the Maenad is just a monster of the week. If she’s around or the rest of the season (or beyond) – YIKES!

    • Jodi,

I am so tired of Maryann. I hope that plot wraps up quickly and be done with it. In the book, her character (Calypso?) was a small side story which was over quickly and basically useless to the overall story.

I was patiently waiting for this interview since I saw the picture you shared on twitter. And just a few weeks ago I was saying that Maryann and Jessica were my guilty pleasures when it came to True Blood. Out of everyone, these are the characters I will enjoy watching week after week, and who made me really warm up to the series. Especially that scene where Jessica walked into Merlotte’s (set to the music by one of my favourite bands), I just dissolved. Deborah’s got incredible on-screen presence, and charisma. She brings that innocent intensity that is very much of a break from the repetitively monotonous Bill & Sookie fight/make-up scenes.
And when it comes to Maryann, I am enjoying whatever it is she does. I undertsand that people are frustrated by her drawn-out storyline but that’s just irrelevant to me. Michelle comes across as having such fun with the character and I am too. Maryann is so much above ‘good’ or ‘evil’ which is just so refreshing. She is just a goddess and I’d love to see her stay on True Blood, and with more screen time as well.

Like a lot of viewers, I don’t have any desire to see Maryann interact with MORE characters on the show . . . I want to see her interact with FEWER. Like, none. Like, can we kill of this character YESTERDAY? She’s terrible. I love Jessica and do not want her to be connected with Maryann in any way. Seriously, get rid of Maryann.

  • Ashley

I just wish they’d let Stephen Fry invade House!

  • robin

Hopefully, Maryann the Maenad will be gone next season…she is the villain this season (besides the FoTS, which is an ongoing situation throughout the books), and we all know what happened to Rene, last season’s villain.

But Jessica is great…I am a fan of both the books and the show. And Jessica is the best addition Mr. Ball has made to his version of the Sookie-universe. I always wanted Hoyt to find a nice vamp girl while reading Harris’s novels.

  • jenn

At the end of last season I really hated Jessica and didn’t want her back for season 2, but now I love her. I love watching her and Hoyt together. Speaking of characters finally registering in my radar, how awesome was Terry last week when he held Lafayette? I melted.

I’m SO happy to read all the other comments about how awful the Mary Ann storyline is. I don’t know if it’s Michelle Forbes’ acting chops (or lack thereof) or they way Alan Ball, et al, are writing her character… maybe it’s both – either way, it’s time to get rid of Mary Ann. For a show about vampires, all the other storylines are actually a bit believeable the way they’re written. Mary Ann is terrible. The stupid twitchy flashy thing they have her do is one of the worst effects I’ve seen in years. It’s really a detriment to the show because HBO prides itself on quality – hello, they only have 12 episodes per season because if they had more they’d never be able to spend the time and money they do on each episode to make the show as great as it is. Mary Ann is old news, her storyline is tired and if they’re not going to move it forward soon, they’re going to start losing viewers.
On the other hand, 3 cheers for Deborah Ann Woll! She’s a brilliant addition to the show and I love her sass and humor. Don’t punish her by making her do scenes with Michelle Forbes. Not even Rutina Wesley deserves that… much.

i dont care what anyone says, I LOVE MARY ANN and she has become my favorite character this season. Michelle Forbes is just awesome and chews up all her scenes with relish. Id love to purchase that mask she wore on the last episode lol
