'Criminal Minds' exclusive: D.B. Sweeney's on the case for six episodes

DB-Sweeney_lCriminal Minds has tapped D.B. Sweeney  for a six-episode arc, exec producer Ed Bernero confirms to me exclusively. “He’s playing a U.S. Marshal who’s brought in to help with a big [case] that arcs through the first part of the season,” Bernero reveals. “He’s a contemporary of our team and knows several members of our team really well.”

In other Minds news, Bernero confirms that co-star Shemar Moore broke his leg after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle over the weekend. The injury will have little impact on Moore’s Minds workload, however. “We’re not even going to write it into the show,” says Bernero. “He’s going to be back to work next Monday.  It’s right under his knee and he has a walking cast. He’s just really sore right now. “

Moore’s co-star, Matthew Gray Gubler, didn’t fare as well. The actor recently underwent surgery after dislocating his knee cap while out dancing. “Matthew’s injury is a lot worse,” Bernero says. “He has to sit all the time.” As a result, “something happens in the first episode” that will sideline Dr. Reid for several weeks, if not longer. Here’ a clue: He **** ***t!

    He gets shot?

  • Sally

I’m guessing Reid gets shot. D:

  • Danie

So, no awesome Moore running scenes, that is a bummer.

  • Kate

Don’t tell me it’s He Gets Shot!

  • CandyMaize

Yeah, most likely “he gets shot” ..

  • Geishacat

Reid is the victim of a Morgan-related office prank that goes horribly wrong – leaving both characters laid up.

  • Lorie

    Nice! I’m a big D.B. Sweeney fan.

it seems pretty obvious that Reid is going to take a bullet. which is fine by me. so long as they don’t write him totally out. well, depending on how they do the scene. if it is horribly cheesy I will hate it. but I will wait to diss until I see it.

How mighty of you to give out Criminal Minds spoilers. It must’ve hurt to do it. You hate the show with passion, I am shocked, you fool.

I like D.B Sweeney. I just really hope that the writers remember that he’s a guest star (6 episodes worth, but still a guest star) and thus is secondary to the main cast. I’d hate him to get a whole storyline and background and episodes focused on him while it’s four years and we still hardly know anything about JJ other than she’s from a small town. I’m not saying don’t use him since they have him. Just hope they’re not too focused on their shiny new (temporary) toy and give him a lot of screen time that could go to the others.

“He’s a contemporary of our team and knows several members of our team really well. ”

hmmm…possible Emily love interest???? (current or ex, girl needs some lovin :) )

  • Elle

IMHO, it’s very unprofessional to give out blatant spoilers.

    • Ashley

Busted leg = shot character. No surprises there. But, uh, Elle…if you don’t want spoilers, point your mouse elsewhere. Problem solved!

      • Elle

I have no problem with spoilers but other people do. I was brought here by a link. If this is what this column is supposed to be about I have been educated. Next time you give advice Ashley, try to avoid the sarcasm and be nice for a change. Thank you. Have a nice day.

  • Karla

At last you give us CM news. Since you are feeling so magnanimous, how about giving us a clue as to what happened to Hotch?

  • Livvia
