Armchair Casting Director: 'The Office'

Further proof that The Office is gearing up for a Jim-Pam wedding this fall: They’re casting the role of Pam’s mom! (Plus, Mindy Kaling confirmed it to me last night!) Here are the deets…

MRS BEESLY: Attractive and in her 50s. A really nice lady who’s very close to her daughter. Down-to-earth with a great sense of humor. Could recur for three or four episodes.

Got casting tips? Post ‘em below!

Bonnie Hunt, Bonnie Hunt, Bonnie Hunt. How fun would she be??!!

  • graeme

I love Bonnie Hunt, but she’s too young, and “The Office” has rightfully avoided the stunt casting gimmick.

Bonnie Hunt may be a little young, but she could totally pull it off. Plus she’s hilarious! As far as stunt casting, Bonnie wouldn’t fall into that category any more than Idris Elba or Amy Ryan. Neither of their appearances hurt the show, as a matter of fact, they enhanced it considerably. (Amy Ryan much more so than Idris Elba IMHO.)

didn’t Pam’s mom already appear in an earlier season??

    • Em

      no just, on the telephone.

      • Nikki

yeah in Sexual Harrasment she visited the office. But that was back before it got huge

      • Jane

Yeah. Pam’s mom visited the office. Jim was so excited to meet her, but Pam was still engaged to Roy, so Pam’s mom hugged Roy and Jim backed off, realizing he had no right to intrude. Later Pam’s mom saw Jim in passing and asked Pam if it was him. Pam said yes and mom said, “He is cute.”

So I guess that means they aren’t using the actress who played Pam’s mom in an earlier episode?

  • mike

But they already had pam’s mom in an episode.. . She went out for lunch with pam and roy, but really wanted to meet jim.

  • genvessel

i’d like it if they used the woman that appeared in s2 because i love continuity.

  • John

Re-use the old actress, she was adorable and real!

    • KJ

I agree completely! Why re-cast for this role when they already had a perfect person play her in season 2?!

  • mac

How about Shannon Cochran the actress who played Pams mom in the episode Sexual Harassment?

  • mike

yea i liked the first Pam’s mom…i hate when shows recast for no reason

    • lafc

Maybe she didn’t want to come back or can’t come back.

  • Luddite

I agree – keep the woman that played Pam’s mom in “Sexual Harassment.”

  • JD

Forget the actress that already played Pam’s mom! They should do some wacky stunt casting!

    • I should be working

Jack Black (in drag), Jessica Alba, or Cloris Leachman

  • Bri

    Vicki Lawrence

    • Private

ROFL! That would be a hoot! She would be better as a grandmother, tho. She was Pam’s age (possibly a little more) back in the early 70′s.

  • CH

The first lady from season 2.

  • switchkosterICE

It’s really bothering me that it seems like they completely overlooked recasting for continuity’s sake. The Office sucks when it comes to continuity.

    • Laura

I completely agree. If Shannon Cochran is available, use her. I always hate it when they use different actors!

      • Olivia

        Double ditto!

  • Lisa

Isn’t there already an actress who played Pam’s mom in one of the first couple seasons?
