'Lost': Mr. Eko wants to stage his comeback!

Mr-EkoAdewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, aka former tailie Mr. Eko, has a message for Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse: “Fans of Eko should have hope.” Though Akinnuoye-Agbaje was the first castaway to vote himself off the island in season three, the British actor hopes to be one of the dead characters who makes a comeback in the drama’s final season. “I loved playing that character,” he told EW at the premiere of G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, in which he plays Heavy Duty. “I loved working with that team and the reception I got from people was phenomenal. Even at Comic-Con this year I went to sign my action figure for G.I. Joe and people had tons of questions about Lost. It makes you feel good that you could be off a show for more than a year and still have people thinking about your character. It was a great part.

“I’m here for them,” Akinnuoye-Agbaje continues. “Adewale is open for business. We have had talks about some things they might do for the final season and there are other dead folks coming back allegedly but at the moment it is still a maybe. A strong maybe but I have not shot anything yet or signed any contracts. But I’m hoping.”

The executive producers declined to comment but they did tell attendees at Comic-Con last month that the show will allow for dead or presumed-dead characters to return. Definites include Daniel Faraday (Jeremy Davies), Claire (Emilie de Ravin), Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Boone (Ian Somerhalder). What do you think? Should Mr. Eko be among the dearly departed who’s allowed to stage a comeback? – With additional reporting from Carrie Bell

    Best LOST news all Summer!

    • Blip

Agreed. ’23rd Psalm’ is hands down my favorite episode. Please bring the guy back and give him the biggest dramatic monologue possible. Echo love forever.

      • Adebesi

He was awesome in Oz..same stereotypical African gangsta character..but with a jaunty little hat.

  • Casey

Eko is still in my top three favorite characters ever on Lost. Great news, I hope they take advantage of it.

Also, Claire isn’t a dead person coming back. It was never stated that she died.

    • EY

that’s why they said “dead or presumed dead.”

      • MrEko

Yeah, but no one has presumed that she died — she just walked off to hang with her pops.

      • H E Pennypacker

There is of course the theory that Claire died when her house exploded in New Otherton…

  • AJH

Would be great to have Eko back. It’s too bad Adewale left the show in the first place.

    • George

I was said when he left but Adewale was dealing with the deaths of his mother and father. I am glad he had time to mourn and deal with such losses.

  • Jennifer

Yes! I would love more on Eko — I hope he does turn up, with more info on Smokey if possible.

    • Cardsgal

@Jennifer: Smokey = the dude in the black shirt that we met in the season finale. I thought most of us had accepted that as a given…

      • MrEko

        Smokey is the smoke monster.

      • cailean

This actually isn’t a fact just yet. It’s only assumed that the man in black is smokey.

  • Blurbank

Um… YES!!! Please bring back Mr. Eko. I think he still has quite a story to tell.

  • Rebecca

    YES, YES, YES!!!
Mr. Eko is one of my top 3 favorite Lost characters. I would absolutely LOVE to see him come back.

  • caitlin

I hope he comes back. His departure was rather rushed and unceremonious. He deserves more.

  • E.B. Berman

Wow. I was expecting to find a lot of sour grapes in the comments and am pleased as punch to find otherwise. Loved the character and love the actor. He was wasted in GI Joe; Lost should definitely have him back.

  • Sarah R

so they can finish the church of course :)

  • Mindy

Yes, I would LOVE to have him back. Mr. Eko was a fantastic character. One of my favorite characters from LOST. Hope they can find a way to bring him back that works for the story.

  • Melanie

That’d be awesome if Mr.Eko came back. I hated how they killed him off…with the smoke monster.

FTR, Claire was never dead or presumed dead. She just disappeared in the jungle with Christian.

    • EY

But because she was with Christian it was presumed by many people that she died. we don’t know though.

    • Felipe

Disappearing into the jungle with none of the others having any wishful thinking that she’d return is more than enough reason for a “presumed dead” to me. Not to mention her creepy appearances next to the doc’s “presumed dead” father.

      • Dawnie

… not just “The Doc’s” presumed dead father.. it’s HER father too. You do know this, right? That’s why she’s THERE with him??

I’m confused w/the comment above that someone said about Claire possibly having died in her house. She was outside with another Lostie & her baby when she got up & walked away. How could she have died in the house if someone had been with her before she disappeared over night w/Christian? I never thought she was dead… I think that’s an odd assumption for anyone to be making as the writers didn’t really create any circumstances leading us to believe that.

  • Heather

Yes!! They have already alluded to Hurley playing chess with him in the institution, so why not bring him back for some actual screen time!

  • Amanda P.

I vote YES on a return visit of Mr. Eko!!! He was an amazing character with so much potential and great chemistry with Locke.

  • muddpuddin

Not just Claire…Juliet..we didn’t see her die..and besides if things really did change…who knows who will be alive and/or dead

    • jk

      PRESUMED dead

      • Felipe

I guess that people have a problem with the “presumed dead”. Maybe they find it too pessimistic and would prefer a “presumed alive” : )

  • Ole C

I hope he will return to wield his jesus-stick one more time.. :)
