garrett is joking, folks.
First, the opening scene of the show was as lame as the ending scene from last season. Second, what happened to ‘Duck’ Phillips? No power struggle? Maybe Ausiello can let us know. That being said, I am happy to see the show back. Roger Sterling is the bomb son!
If you watched the final episode last season, what happened with Duck is painfully clear. He tried to bully his way to the top of Sterling Cooper by organizing the Brits to take over. Once Don Draper came back from his little trip in Cali, the Brits realized that Don Draper did not have a contract and therefore could take all of Sterling Cooper’s clients elsewhere. Duck was asked to leave the room, and they said something insulting like “he could never hold his liquor anyway.” Duck’s out. The new head of accounts was the guy flipping out in the Season 3 premiere because he was being fired. Now Pete and Ken are competing for the job.
One thing we learned from last season is that the “cliffhangers” are never resolved in the first episodes (I’m thinking specifically of the season 1 “Peggy had a baby” plot). We may see more of what happened before, but later.
The real question now is whether those new viewers will stick around. I think some may be folks who discovered the show in the off season, but many may be people who tuned in because of all the hype, and they were confused or bored and won’t be back.

Anybody else LOVE some Pete Campbell? I was a little disappointed that we didn’t see him interacting with Peggy much. I know to be patient and all will be revealed, but the anticipation is killing me! Love Pete!
