Armchair Casting Director: 'Ugly Betty'

Remember me hinting back in July about a possible mob subplot on this season’s Ugly Betty involving Hilda? Well, based on the following casting intel, it looks like producers are moving full-steam ahead with the story, which would find Ana Ortiz’s lovelorn single mom falling for a poor man’s Christopher Moltisanti! The deets…

Bobby: A thirtysomething sexy, masculine Caucasian male from Queens, Bobby works for the family business. He’s a good guy at heart, but he can also be dangerous and violent. Producers will consider only local New York actors. Recurring.

Awww, what happened to Hilda and the Karate Kid?

    Bobby Cannavale

    • Amy

      I agree

  • Blogette

    I second Bobby Cannavale.

My vote goes to Nathaniel Marston. He would likely fit well with the chemistry of this show and could pull off the character you describe above and then some. The question is: Can ABC exhibit some class here and try to forget that they fired him from One Life to Live?

  • april-ann

Because the character’s name is Bobby, I also thought immediately of the obvious choice, Bobby Cannavale. Also an excellent choice, but maybe too well known already: Will and Grace, Sex and the City. But that could be a plus.

Weren’t Hilda and the karate kid involved last season? Is that over?

Everyone loves Ortiz and Macchio together. They’re probably trying to throw drama triangle for Hilda with another bad boy. Which is fine but Archie will win in the end. They won’t end the show with Hilda making a stupid decision. She’s a grown woman who needs stability in her life. Go Archie and Hilda! Just my prediction. :)

No, the Karate Kid is too boring. I fall asleep when they are on together. Hilda is incredibly vivacious and sassy and needs someone stable, yes, but also exciting and not dullsville.

  • Jon

Jonathan Tucker. Already played a Caucasian Irish mob guy in The Black Donnellys. Would be a great choice.

PLEASE not Bobby Cannavale! He’s SO annoying! Besides, if it was him, he’d have to squeeze Betty in between “Cold Case” tapings, because I heard he was coming back this season.

They need to write better stuff for Macchio’s character. He has a huge fanbase… and is a great actor… they need to create more excitement for Hilda/Archie. Hope they do in S4! Will be funny w/her in political world! Maybe she messes things up for him and we see another side. Cannavale… overrated… Cupid sucked.

Enrique Murciano!!! He’s be perfect! I’ll miss seeing him on Without a Trace this season.

My prediction: The Hilda/Archie story is far from over. They merely introduced Archie last season; it will be Archie’s story that pulls Hilda into the mob drama (don’t forget Archie is a politician). They are great together, and the show knows that. I think they also know that he was purposely a little boring in the beginning…….

Ralph’s character had no chemistry whatsoever with Hilda. I still say a Daniel/Hilda hookup would be priceless!
