Armchair Casting Director: 'Lost'

THIS JUST IN: Lost found its Lennon!

The first official piece of new casting for Lost‘s sixth and final season has arrived — and it’s surprisingly detailed.  Team Darlton is looking for an actor in his mid 30s to late 50s to play…

Lennon: Scruffy, edgy, charismatic, and slightly stir-crazy, Lennon can be deferential when it’s called for. He’s the spokesperson/translator for the president of a foreign corporation. He’s a wily negotiator, and far more powerful than his lowly position would seem to indicate. Recurring.

Got casting tips? Theories as to how he fits into the puzzle that is Lost? Post ‘em below!

Exclusive: 'Caprica' snags James Marsters!

Categories: Caprica

James-Marsters_lCaprica exec producer Jane Espenson is using her powers as a charter member of the Whedonverse for good. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Buffy all-star James Marsters is joining the Battlestar Galactica prequel for a sizable arc.

Marsters will play a dangerous terrorist leader by the name of Barnabus Greeley in a minimum of three episodes. Driven by desires both moralistic and carnal, Barnabus is as lethal as he is unpredictable.

And no ones does lethal and unpredictable better than Marsters.

Caprica is set to make its Syfy debut on Jan. 22.

Exclusive: 'Men' taps Penelope Ann Miller as Ray Romano's ex

Categories: Misc.

Penelope-Ann-Miller_lPenelope Ann Miller, late of Fox’s Vanished and a bunch of other stuff, is joining TNT’s forthcoming midlife crisis drama Men of a Certain Age as the ex-wife of Ray Romano’s neurotic party-supply store owner, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Miller is committed to appearing in at least five episodes of Men, which bows in December and stars Andre Braugher, Scott Bakula, and Romano as a group of friends getting old approaching midlife together.

Exclusive: 'Felicity,' 'Wire' alums join 'Brothers & Sisters'

Categories: Brothers & Sisters

Amy-Aquino-Peter-Gerety_lBrothers & Sisters has tapped the sublime Amy Aquino — she was Dr. Coburn on ER and Keri Russell’s no-nonsense, chain-smoking shrink on Felicity (loved her!) — for a multi-episode arc, sources confirm to me exclusively. Additionally, Peter Gerety (Homicide, The Wire) is joining the cast for several episodes.

Aquino will play a doctor (spoiler alert!) treating a member of the Walker clan who shall remain nameless. Gerety, meanwhile, will appear as a “surprising outsider,” according to (ironically enough) an insider.

'True Blood' ratings: Another bloody record!

Categories: True Blood

A series-high 4.5 million looky-loos caught Alexander Skarsgard in the buff on Sunday’s mostly snoozy True Blood. That’s up slightly from the 4.4 million peeps who caught last week’s episode. In gross audience—combining linear plays, DVR and HBO On Demand—True Blood is averaging 11.4 million viewers per episode.

Armchair Casting Director: 'Supernatural'

I recently received a tip that Supernatural was planning to unveil its version of the Tooth Fairy in this season’s sixth episode. Well, the following casting prattle explains why…

Jesse: An all-American boy age 11 who is wise beyond his years. He was adopted as an infant and remains perplexed by his unusual powers. He possesses a childlike innocence—he believes in the Tooth Fairy (Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!)! He suddenly finds himself faced with a very adult decision. Recurring role.

'Mad Men' scores record ratings

Categories: Mad Men

This just in: Roughly 2.8 million viewers caught last night’s third season premiere of Mad Men. That represents a 34 percent bump over the season 2 premiere (2.1 million) and stands as the show’s most-watched episode to date. This calls for a celebration. Happy hour starts now in Slezak’s office!

Exclusive: 'Friday Night Lights' drafts Michael Jordan!

Categories: Friday Night Lights

Michael-B-Jordan_lNo, not hoops legend Michael Jordan. Up-and-coming actor Michael B. Jordan!

The alum of All My Children and The Wire is joining Friday Night Lights as Vince, East Dillon’s resident troublemaker. Although charming at times, the junior running back can be dangerous and menacing—a result of his crime-riddled upbringing. He quickly finds himself at odds with the team’s new pretty boy Luke (played by the just-cast Matt Lauria).

Like Lauria, Jordan is a series regular.

Ratings: 'Big Brother,' 'Shark Tank' top a snoozy Sunday

Summer blahs continued in primetime network television as Big Brother 11 and There Goes the Neighborhood helped CBS win Sunday, and ABC’s Shark Tank came out on top in its hour despite ho-hum ratings numbers. Scripted drama continued to tank, meanwhile, as ABC’s Defying Gravity lost more than half of Shark‘s lead-in.

Exclusive: 'Friday Night Lights' recruits 'Lipstick Jungle' hottie

Categories: Friday Night Lights

Matt-Lauria_lHas Friday Night Lights found its next Tim Riggins?

Lipstick Jungle‘s Matt Lauria—he played Lindsay Price’s gay assistant on the late NBC soap—is joining the season 4 cast in the series regular role of Luke, a charming yet cocky junior who reluctantly finds himself playing for Coach Taylor’s East Dillon squad.

Luke is one of four new characters being introduced to help fill the void left by Adrianne Palicki, Minka Kelly, and Zach Gilford (who’ll now be returning for seven episodes.)

FNL’s 13-episode fourth season debuts Oct. 28 on DirecTV.

So, has Friday Night Lights found its next Tim Riggins? Sound off below!

'24' scoop: Time running out for Jack-Audrey reunion

Categories: 24

24-raver-sutherland_lIf the coming season ends up being 24‘s last, don’t count on Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack reconnecting with former love Audrey (Kim Raver), who lapsed into a catatonic state at the end of season 6. Exec producer Evan Katz tells me that a series-ending story has been hatched should 24 clock out for good next May—and it doesn’t involve an Audrey-Jack reunion.

“Some of the things we’re doing this season preclude [her returning],” he says. “So I think not. She was in bad shape the last time we saw her.”

Katz says a number of “contingencies are in place” that could either tie up the series or keep it going. READ FULL STORY »

Ratings: 'Millionaire,' 'Big Brother' hit highs on repeat-filled Thursday

On a rather slow summer Thursday evening, the only two new episodes on television — ABC’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and CBS’s Big Brother – both hit season highs in viewership, likely because there was so little competition. Millionaire bested its Tuesday night episode, which was previously its highest rated in this limited run, by 1.1 million. Overall, Millionaire has increased by 2 million viewers, or 31 percent, since it launched on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Big Brother hit a season high within its Thursday night airings, drawing a respectable 7.6 million viewers. (Hey, it’s summer! The expectations aren’t too high.) The rest of the night, as per usual, was filled with a bevy of repeats.
