Exclusive: Debi Mazar books 'Castle' gig

Tags: , News

debi-mazar-castle_lDebi Mazar’s Dancing With the Stars debut is still three weeks out, but the actress has already won a pretty nifty prize from ABC: a recurring stint on Castle.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Mazar is joining the second-year dramedy as Paula Haas, book agent to Nathan Fillion’s modern-day Jessica Fletcher. She’ll first appear in October when she makes Castle an offer he’ll find hard to refuse. Accepting said offer, however, would cause a fair amount of upheaval in his life, particularly his relationship with Detective Beckett.

I like this move. Debi is talented, fun and fiery and could add just what this show is missing, should her character be written properly. The show is pleasant enough, but unexciting. Nathan Filion is cute, charming and charismatic, but Stana Katic, while beautiful, is boring.

I agree. They should just combine her names into “Static” which is what she makes her character seem. I remember Ms. Mazer from when I was 4 years old, watching the second Beethoven movie. She was the one thing I think I would still enjoy from that film, so I am all for her coming aboard Castle.

That’s a woman? Looks like a man on that picture.

  • jules

She’ll be perfect as a tough literary agent. She’s very much like a lot of them!

  • Jane

I love this show! I hope Mazar will help attract some more loyal viewers. Thanks for the scoop.

  • Christopher

Nice choice! She’s already made a few appearances on Entourage as Vince’s publicist; not too much of a leap from that. She’s a great actress.

  • MisterCosmic

I remember her from Civil Wars and LA Law back in the early 90s… her performances stood out even then and I have no doubt she will continue to do on Castle… kudos to the producers!

Luv Nathan Fillion & luv this casting – I will certainly be watching how the chemistry between these two goes! Hopefully better than the current leading lady – she is no Mariska Hargitay! Law & Order – SVU

i love the idea of debi mazur coming to “castle”. she’s terrific,
i love her style. castle is such a “Hunk”, det. beckett has her handsful, now,. i can’t wait to see
    it! love love the show!!!

  • Lorie

    Great casting! Can’t wait.

It’s almost too bad that Morena Baccarin was cast as the leader of the Visitors in the reboot of “V.” If she were available, I’d say that she should play the agent/potential romantic interest and Mazar should still be brought on playing her publicist character from Entourage. She could be the Detective Munch of Dramedy.

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with you, Rob. Having Morena would be too distracting to the Firefly fans – they’d look at her and think Mal and Inara. Or at least I would. *sigh*

Can’t say I care for Debi Mazar but then I’m skipping out on the second season anyway so whatever.

      • Nerwen Aldarion

Yeah I agre, I love Morena but leave Mal and Inara for Firefly, there isn’t really a place for them in Castle

The only way I could see them bringing Morena in would be as a spoof or as a shout out to Firefly

I’m glad to hear Debi Mazur is coming on “Castle.” She was one of my favorites on the old “L.A. Law” and I’m sure she’ll be good on “Castle.” Whoever said Stana Katic is boring has never seen “Castle.” Stana is perfect as Kate Beckett, and the chemistry between her and Rick Castle is dynamite. Stana Katic is one of the most outstanding and most talented actors on TV. She is highly educated and skilled. Look her up sometime. Her background is awesome. Then watch “Castle.”

    • Chappel

I agree about Stana Katic. I think she’s great. Her character’s self control and unwillingness to wear her heart on her sleeve might be seen as some as boring but I find it fascinating and I love to watch the little bits and pieces of humor and pain she allows to show through the gruff exterior. Mariska Hargitay is about exaggerating every single emotion her character has to make sure the audience sees it. Stana Katic is much more subtle and realistic.

    • Cheryl Bazor

I have to disagree with you about Stana Katic, she is terribly boring and I do not see any chemistry between her and Nathan Fillion at al.

    • Nerwen Aldarion

Yeah finally someone who doesn’t want to bash Stana. To all those who think her character is boring and she doesn’t have chemestry with Nathan obviously have been watching the wrong show. Their chemestry is obvious, otherwise there wouldn’t be a fansite already dedicated to them

  • MoMo

Have always loved Debbi Mazur- she has great screen presence whatever she does. But lighten up on Stana. She plays her role the way its written I should think. She carries all the seriousness of the profession and her character’s history. When they let her lighten up, I see sparks even if no one else does!

  • Ally

So she’ll pretty much just be playing her character from Entourage?

  • Otis

Bad move. Jumped the Shark after only one season. Good chemistry between all characters. Why?

  • SadButTrue

Who is Debi Mazar – what the appeal?
