Nice job Michael of not realizing that Linda Purl is actually semi famous back in the 80′s as Fonzie’s girlfriend. Hope you don’t feel like a real “aus” hole.
Shame on you Michael Ausiello for “respecting” this casting (and not liking it), and then disrespecting Ms. Purl (aka whatsherface to you). The genius of Office was that they never relied on a stunt casting. The show began mostly with relative unknowns, and I think they do a good job of casting the best person for the role. Go rent Beaches if you want to see Bette Midler.
hahaha….
Wurd.
Maybe it’s just me, but in that picture does she not look remarkably like Michael’s ex-girlfriend Jan?
That’s exactly who I thought it was before I read the story. Maybe she should be recast as Jan’s mom.
Geez, dude, you’re a TV “expert” and don’t know who Linda Purl is? Someone introduce this guy to imdb. I knew her immediately before even reading your freakin’ diss story. How about an apology? You just don’t go rippin’ on Matlock’s first daughter. Sheesh.
Linda Purl has a very long resume of Television work, and did a lot more then just play on “Matlock”, maybe you should get your facts straight before writing a article like this!…and by the way did you really think Goldie Hawn would have took the part anyway!..she hasn’t acted since 2002!
Was she the one in that old show Beauty and the Beast? or was that Linda Hamilton?
Hamilton.
Whoa, someone is clearly not a fan of Linda Purl. For starters, she is not relatively unknown. Nor is she a D-list portrayer, an average Jane or whatsherface. Did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? I don’t care if the show “maintained its creative integrity by hiring Purl” because the show is darn lucky to have her. But okay, I’ll play along with the question and say that I am happy that someone more “flavor-of-the-day-famous” was not hired for this. Leave the cheesy stunt casting to 30 Rock, since I guess some shows felt they had to fill that particular void left by Will and Grace.
Hire Bette Midler!
I’m disappointed in you, Ausiello. Linda Purl was in Happy Days, and her character was the Fonz’s girlfriend. You call yourself a TV lover. Shame, shame.
She seems fine to me, but I wonder why they couldn’t just recast the actress from season 2? They look enough a like, it’ll probably go unnoticed by most. Still. Also, I like that the Office doesn’t cast well-knowns. The show is about relating to real, normal, everyday people like us. Casting Meryl Streep would destroy that purpose (not to mention be weird0. And honestly folks, Bette Midler as Pam’s mom? I don’t see it.
I’m old enough to remember Linda Purl. She’ll do just fine. FYI, she’s Desi Arnaz, Jr’s ex-wife.
I love the fact that these actors and actresses are unknowns (except for Steve Carell). It gives you so much more of a personal connection with their characters. I know that an actress like Meryl Streep can play just about any character, but at the end of the day it still feels like you’re watching Meryl Streep. I don’t even know some of these actors’ real names, but I know the names of their characters. And, really, that’s the most important thing.
Has anyone heard if they will be introducing Michael Scott’s mom in the future? I thought I had read somewhere that they were talking (or joking?) about the possibility of casting the hilarious Carol Burnett as his crazy mom. Any one know if this is just a rumor or not?
People, the rule is that if someone is unknown to Ausiello, they are unknown to the world. Do not contradict.
I am assuming that Michael Ausiello is not a soap fan. She was on Port Charles. I find it interesting that Michael Ausiello
used Wikipedia to find out about this actress and not IMDB. How do I know?
