The fall TV season officially kicked off Tuesday night with the second season premiere of 90210 and the series debut of the updated Melrose Place on The CW. While Melrose outperformed previous time slot holder Privileged, its numbers didn’t quite match the hype. The good news: The CW is the one network that will give a show time to fully bloom. The bad news: That means we haven’t heard the last of “Tuesday is the new hump day.”

Yeah, I think the folks that worked on Privileged will attest to the CW giving a show a chance.
I liked privelaged:( Wish it had of come back instead of Melrose- it was such a huge bore!
I will never watch anything on the CW ever again since they cancelled Reaper.
EW seems to have forgotten that the original Melrose Place, for all its buzz, never got quite as good ratings as the original 90210. Looks like history repeating itself.
It seems that 90210 is no longer so desirable itself according to tvby the numbers.(The CW started the 2009-10 “pre-season” with disappointing results, as the season premiere of 90210 drew only a 1.7 rating in the adults 18-34 demo (down 45% from the 3.1 rating for the 2 hour premiere last season.)
I don’t care about the ratings. The new Melrose Place is AWESOME!!!!!!
good should have never cancelled reaper the cw network should die network die. or whats next a remake of knots landing by this retread network
“The CW is the one network that will give a show time to fully bloom.” BULLSHIT. I’ve got two words for you: Veronica Mars.
That’s not really a fair statement. Veronica got a huge reprieve twice and the network promo’d that show routinely in the second season. Ditto with Priveleged and the second half of the first season. I loved both of those shows, but a year is a really good shot – better than some of the networks give, cough, NBC, cough.
Umm, I don’t really get it. The ratings for Melrose Place aren’t that much worse than 90210, so what’s the big deal?
i blame ashlee simpson. her name alone is enough to make anyone change the channel
Do ratings even matter on the CW?! I think they care about online viewing, iTunes downloads, and buzz….right??? Gossip Girl is a prime example.
Isn’t 2.3 million standard for the CW? I thought around 4 million was amazing for that network, so I don’t really understand what they were anticipating. Their shows never gain as many viewers as other networks, and the generation who watched the old Melrose does not watch the CW anyway as its geared toward teenagers.
90210 has Trevor Teddy hot boy Melrose has blah blah. I only watch for Trevor
