Armchair Casting Director: 'Dollhouse'

Where’s this guy been hiding? Joss Whedon is looking for an actor in his 30s or 40s to play…

Howard Lipman: An intelligent higher-up in the Dollhouse, Howard has huge presence and humor. Possible recurring.

ACD recommends: James Marsters.

Got a casting tip of your own? Let’s hear it!

YES! We would love fellow BTVS and Angel alum, James Marsters :)

  • NLPaperdoll

Yes, yes, yes! I would love to see James Marsters on Dollhouse. My Whedonverse is large enough already thank you!

  • Mike W

Perhaps out of the age range for this, but they have to find something for Anthony Head.

    • Ragna

Anthony Head is doing Merlin in the UK right now, so if they need him immediately I think he’s too busy.

      • Ariel

I loved Merlin, but it looks like it’s only one season. Are there going to be more? I can’t tell from the IMDB listing. I’d love him in this role. James Marsters would be great too.

  • Jacob

Hasn’t Caprica already stolen him? I’m all for it, but he may be busy… But, then again, who’s too busy for Joss Whedon?

  • Kat

Would love to see James Marsters do it. What about Lee Pace? Or
someone not a Hollywood ‘insider’, like Chris Leavins?

  • Mary

I would probably cry if my Spike showed up on Dollhouse. And when I say cry, I mean “jump up and down and scream while freaking out my dogs and my boyfriend”. But just saying “cry” seems easier.

    • jess

      LMAO Ditto Mary!!!

    • Davey

      That’s FUNNY!!!

  • lionjack@sbcglobal.net

Mike, bit your tongue. While I grant you James Marsters would be a great addition to ANY existing cast, attaching him to Dollhouse might tank his career entirely. Said show is the proverbial turd in the punchbowl of television. Now had you said give him a show of his own as the lead, THAT would’ve been on track.

    • Javabooknut

Did you see the whole season?! Started off slow which is standard for JW but ended with a bang. Can’t wait for it to come back.

  • Kaytea

Oh please, please, PUWEEZE! James Marsters FTW.

  • KE

Christopher Eccleston or David Tennant…Whedonverse meets the Whoverse

    • Rachel

That was my first thought too! How amazing would either of them be on this show? Or what about John Simm?

      • Mike W

JOHN SIMM would be amazing! He really is incredible, and sounds perfect for this role.

    • Coyote

The Whoverse already met the Whedonverse: Capt. John Hart, remember?

      • jess

damn i’d for him to come back to Torchwood too. Just give me some James Marsters on my TV and I’m a happy girl

      • orville

Oh yeah, that’s right! Well, it’s about time that it went the other way right? Eccelston would be brilliant.

I’d love Marsters too, but Whedonverse has crossed to BSG-verse–Caprica has him. Though BSG has had a big role in Whedonverse lately too…

      • karen

        John Barrowman!

    • shannwa

What a yummy idea!!! I’d vote for Tennant.

  • Diane

Spiky back in Whedonverse? Sign me up!

  • Sara

Sorry, an intelligent higher-up with huge presence and humor doesn’t scream James Marsters to me. Not that I have any better suggestions, of course.

    • jess

Did you ever actually see him as Spike because he played humor beautiful Something Blue anyone.

      • orville

Humor was pretty much all Spike *was* for a while there until they fleshed the character out. And there aren’t that many more actors in Whedonverse with a bigger presence (both senses).

  • Addey

Who wouldn’t want Blondie Bear back in the Whedonverse?

  • Tego Livi

You and many readers keep recommending the same people over and over and over–and almost all the people you recommend are from one of 5 or 6 shows you’re obsessed with.

    • ombsg

      so what’s your suggestion then?

  • Marisa

Aww… Andy Hallett would have been great for that.

    • liz

      Too bad he died.

  • Cindy

Ron Glass (Shepherd Book of Firefly/Serenity) would also be excellent.
