Emmy intel: NPH taps 'PC' dude as announcer

Tags: , News

John-Hodgman_lMy Emmy spies are telling me that host-producer-nominee Neil Patrick Harris has tapped John ‘I’m a PC’ Hodgman to serve as the announcer at Sunday’s ceremony. (The guy that says, “This is Tony Shaloub’s 74th nomination and 64th win.”) According to the insider, the plan is to have him not be entirely credible facts-wise — a la Hodgman’s Daily Show “expert.”

Between this and the Dr. Horrible skit, I’d say this year’s Emmys are going to be… I know I promised never to go there again but I just can’t resist…  this year’s Emmys are going to be… one last time and then that’s it… this year’s Emmys are going to be… legen — wait for it — dary!

Hodgman’s books are some of the funniest reads ever. If only Jonathan Coulton could be involved in this somehow too.

Yes, that would totally rock! I loved the Emmys as they were, but I hope JoCo can get some more recognition too.

Wow. If there were even the slightest chance that I wasn’t going to be hanging on every moment of the Emmy’s (yeah, right), now I am definitely going to be glued to my TV.

Aw man, I thought by PC Dude you meant “PC Peterson” of NYC Prep. That would have been a very interesting choice.

      Fail.

I want that guy on Chuck. And Mac Guy. It’d be perfect. Are you listening Chuck team?

I saw John Hodgman do stand-up this Friday and he was reading some made-up facts. They were hysterical and included, among other things, Tony Shalhoub being the meanest man in Hollywood and holding him hostage in the control room with a knife. I can’t wait to see how this goes!

Awesome…love him on The Daily Show!!

This man is hilarious and already, this is shaping up to BETTER than the disastrous ceremony last season, I hope they think about having Neil back next year, just book him and the PC guy now so 2010′s will be just as LEGENDARY, Neil rocks on HIMYM so the EMMY awards are in good hands and I hope he wins the Supporting and that the show wins BEST COMEDY and not 30 Rock!

Michael, you are making me more and more excited for the Emmys. Thanks for the news!

Lame. So Lame. How about using talent with real credits… proven ability? What’s next, the Verizon guy doing backstage interviews??

    • Sam

Actually, John Hodgman is an author, a correspondent on the Daily Show, and recently gave the radio and tv correspondents’ address to President Obama. So while he does appear on commercials, he’s actually amassed quite a resume.

      hellooo?? where have you been?

Is anyone else hating that the football game ran 30 minutes late? OH, and of course they can’t just cut immediately to the next show…they have to give their sportscasters a few minutes to dish on the game…boring…!

I’ve never seen CBS cut 60 minutes short for the 8PM programme, but the Emmy’s is live, so I’m very curious to see how they’ll handle this. I hope they cut 60 minutes short and start on time.

I never watch awards shows, but this kind of announcements makes it sound as if they’re going in the right direction. There are several ways they can go: (1) traditional class/glamour (too boring for this day and age) (2)traditional packed w/ content (doesn’t work with modern niche audience) (3)moron innovative (basically what they did last year–stupid stunts) (4) auteur (let talented people run with their own vision, can work or fail utterly). This attempt is sounding good, but we’ll have to see if it works.
