CBS’ presentation of the Emmys improved on last year’s ratings by about a million viewers, but NBC’s Sunday Night Football still came out far ahead, averaging 21.7 million viewers to the Emmys’ 13.3 million. The Giants vs. Cowboys matchup, though, was particularly tough competition, logging the largest overnight household rating for a prime-time NFL game in 11 years. The two huge events rendered programming on other networks mostly moot, and NBC easily logged a victory for the night.
The Peacock had a decent rest of the weekend as well, scoring on Friday with Dateline (7.4 million viewers) and The Jay Leno Show (with 7.7 million viewers, down significantly from its debut but still respectable for the dead-zone night). Football won Saturday for ABC, tackling 6.2 million viewers.

The game was way more exciting. I kept switching back and forth but I eventually gave up, because the Emmys were predictable and dragging and the game was intense and surprising.
I was going to watch the Emmys but my daughters cat escaped and we spent the night looking for it. In the meantime, I can watch Doogie Howser reruns on-demand or on IMDB. (we found the cat)
