More Mad Men

Recast scoop: 'Gilmore' girl out, 'Mad' woman in!

mccarthy-flanagan_lMad Men‘s infamous foot-dicing secretary found another job!

Crista Flanagan, who became a permanent part of Mad Men lore on Sunday when her character ran over an ad exec’s foot with a lawn tractor, is joining ABC’s new Kelsey Grammer sitcom, Hank.

The actress, who also spent three years on MADtv, will play the recurring role of Dawn, the wife of David Koechner’s Grady and sister-in-law to Grammer’s Hank. She replaces Gilmore Girls alum Melissa McCarthy, who dropped out when she landed a supporting role in the Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel romantic comedy, Life as We Know It.

The fate of Flanagan’s Mad alter ego, Lois, was left up in the air in last week’s episode, although it’s hard to imagine Sterling Cooper keeping her on in the wake of hoof-gate.

Roger’s “somewhere, this has happened before” line makes me think they might not get rid of her. I hope they don’t. She provides too much comic relief.

  • Ryan

Lois is hilarious! It’s fun that there’s a character that even Peggy yells at.

  • Mira

Wow, that Heigl comedy had better be good (ha!) considering how many series are being affected.

  • Amanda

Hank is awful. I’m sure she can go back to MadMen as soon as Hank is canceled.

  • Mary

Well, there goes my only reason for watching Hank, which I will now remove from my DVR series recording list. Loved Kelsey Grammar in Back to You, but apparently I was the only one. Glad to know Melissa left voluntarily, as I first assume she’d been booted just like the gals on SNL.

    • David4

Me too. I was only going to check it out because she was in it.

      Oh well.

  • Katie

That’s funny… Isn’t the actress who plays Bobbie Barrett on Mad Men also portraying Kelsey Grammar’s wife on Hank?

  • Ronet

So Katherine Heigl is leaving Greys Anatomy?

    • Amy

Not leaving for good – just missing 5 episodes.

  • couchgrouch

Heigle is doing a rom-com? wow, that’s a real change of pace for her.

  • ShutUpRob

Dudes, it was announced *weeks* ago that Katherine Heigl is going to be missing five episodes of Grey’s early in the season (concurrent with Ellen Pompeo’s maternity leave) in order to do the movie.
    .
I admire McCarthy’s prescience in jumping off the Hank remake as quickly as she could. But when I saw that headline, “‘Gilmore Girl’ Out,’ the first thing that came to my mind (even faster than a revival of the Marcia Cross rumor) was — there’s gonna be a movie and they Rory with Jennifer Morrison in the role!
    .
    Sigh.

I like Crista Flanagan. Still not enough to make me watch Hank.

  • Regan

Crista Flanagan is AWESOME. Loved her on Mad Men and Mad TV-she’s genius!

  • Samantha Delynne

Thats too bad for Melissa McCarthy.I hope she comes back to tv in the fall of 2011.

I just find it sad that people watch a show for only 1 person, when Mad Men is a great show in itself because of ALL the actors. Quitting a show just because one of the actors leave is sorta cutting off your nose to spite your face. One person does not make a story/show that wins Emmys.

  • Floretta

Er, wouldn’t that be cutting off your TOES to spite your foot?

    • Marti

      ARGHH!
      lol

  • Truth

Ironic that an ABC family comedy is hiring a woman who did her best to break up a family while she was at MADTV.

    • Ellen

      What do you mean?

      • Truth

She was sleeping with one of the other writers. Married guy. We were all friends until they started acting selfishly.
