Stephen Moyer on Sookie-Eric: 'They've got great chemistry'

Of all the Emmy interviews I did yesterday, my red carpet Q&A with True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer may be my favorite. This was my first time interviewing him one-on-one, so I think I was expecting someone more along the lines of, well, Bill Compton — that is brooding, dark, and relatively humorless. (I couldn’t really get a read on him during that group interview at Comic-Con). Well, Moyer is none of those things, as you’re about to see. I was particularly impressed with his response to my Eric-Sookie question as well as his take on why the show’s love triangles don’t suck. Watch the video after the jump! READ FULL STORY »

Emmy intel: NPH taps 'PC' dude as announcer

Categories: Emmy Awards

John-Hodgman_lMy Emmy spies are telling me that host-producer-nominee Neil Patrick Harris has tapped John ‘I’m a PC’ Hodgman to serve as the announcer at Sunday’s ceremony. (The guy that says, “This is Tony Shaloub’s 74th nomination and 64th win.”) According to the insider, the plan is to READ FULL STORY »

Emmy intel: 'Big Bang' star predicts Jim Parsons victory

I’m not the only one who thinks Jim Parsons will take home a fancy gold statue on Sunday. At Thursday’s Entertainment Weekly pre-Emmy party, Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco also predicted that her on-screen foil would triumph in the lead actor comedy race. Even better, she followed that prediction with some Leonard-Penny-Sheldon scoop!

To see who else I ran into at last night's bash (hint: Katee Sackhoff, Carlton Cuse, and more) head over to our Emmy hub ASAP.

Exclusive: 'Ugly Betty' hits the beach!

Categories: Ugly Betty

ugly-betty-makeover_l1Betty Suarez is boldly going where she has never gone before: inside a one-piece.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Ugly Betty is heading to the Bahamas next month to shoot an episode on location at the Atlantis Resort and Casino.

I’m told most of the cast will be making the trek for the special episode, which will air in November and revolve around a big Mode photo shoot. READ FULL STORY »

Some good news for 'Chuck' fans (and non-fans)

Categories: Chuck, Southland

No, the show’s tentative March premiere hasn’t been moved up. Not yet anyway. But sources confirm to me exclusively that NBC will begin streaming old episodes of Chuck on NBC.com this Monday. The move will give new and lapsed viewers a chance to play catch-up prior to the launch of the show’s third season. Episodes being streamed include the Chuck pilot and the entire second season (rolled out five episodes at a time).

And wait, there’s more… READ FULL STORY »

Emmy intel: Sunday's show will be 'Horrible'

Neil-Patrick-Harris_lBut in a good way! Sources confirm to me exclusively that host Neil Patrick Harris will headline a Dr. Horrible-themed production number about midway through Sunday’s ceremony. Score!

If I didn’t know better, I’d say this year’s Emmys are going to be… I know it’s been done to death but I just can’t resist…  this year’s Emmys are going to be… this is the last time I’ll ever do this… this year’s Emmys are going to be… legen — wait for it — dary!

'Dollhouse' and 'FNL' scoop: Look who's returning!

I like to think of myself as a fairly plugged-in individual, but I have to admit I had no clue Friday Night Lights‘ Adrianne Palicki and Dollhouse‘s Alan Tudyk were a couple. At least I had no clue until they strolled into Entertainment Weekly‘s pre-Emmy party last night hand-in-hand. Well, good for them. And good for me since it meant I got two spoilery interviews for the price of one! Speaking of which, if you want to know when Tyra and Alpha are returning to FNL and Dollhouse respectively, there’s some embedded video with your name on it after the jump… READ FULL STORY »

Exclusive: Sacha Baron Cohen to guest on 'The Simpsons'

cohen-simpsons_lFrom Borat to Bruno to… Bart! Sacha Baron Cohen is lending his voice to an episode of The Simpsons this season, EW.com has learned. He’ll play a “pretty angry but funny” Israeli tour guide who encounters the Simpsons during a church-group trip to the Holy Land, according to exec producer Al Jean. Notes Jean: “He’s trying to get Marge to give him good grades on the comment card, and she goes, ‘You people are pushy,’ and he goes, ‘What do you mean, you people? You try having Syria for a neighbor! What do you have — Canada?’”  (Meanwhile, Homer gets Jerusalem Syndrome and believes that he is the messiah.)

The episode, titled “The Greatest Story Ever D’ohed,” is tentatively slated to air on March 28, 2010, a.k.a. Palm Sunday, “so it’ll be a show that all faiths can come together and be offended by,” deadpans Jean. Season 21 of The Simpsons begins Sept. 27 on Fox.

Olivia Wilde on 'House' shakeup: 'No one's safe'

A word of caution to all you Thirteen haters out there: Olivia Wilde says this could be the year you start warming up to her icy House alter ego. Or not. Either way, she takes the polarizing response to her character as a compliment, adding, “I’d rather they hate me or love me than feel totally ambivalent.” This could all be a moot point come May when Thirteen’s three-year fellowship expires. For Wilde’s take on that, check out my complete interview with her from Entertainment Weekly‘s pre-Emmy party after the jump… READ FULL STORY »

'True Blood' spoiler: Maryann's alive!

Just kidding. She’s still dead. But her super-fabulous portrayer, Michelle Forbes, was alive, kicking, and answering all of my burning questions at Entertainment Weekly‘s pre-Emmy party last night. Among her take-away quotes: “If you’re going to die on TV, you want Alan Ball to write your death scene.”

To see who else I ran into at last night's bash (hint: Kaley Cuoco, Katee Sackhoff, Carlton Cuse, and more) head over to our Emmy hub ASAP.

2009 Emmy predictions: Find out who will win!

Categories: Emmy Awards

emmy-picks_lNot to toot my own horn, but I was pretty much the only person on the planet to predict that Brian Cranston would win the Emmy last year for Breaking Bad. Bear that in mind as you peruse my 2009 picks. Remember though, If you use any of the info below in your office pool, I’m legally entitled to receive 20 percent of the jackpot. Also keep in mind this is who/what I think will win, not necessarily who I want to win.

BEST COMEDY SERIES
Entourage
Family Guy
Flight of the Conchords
How I Met Your Mother
The Office
*30 Rock

Weeds

* Barring a Family Guy upset, Emmy voters will go to there again with Tina Fey’s rollicking (albeit increasingly uneven) satire.

BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Jemaine Clement, Flight of the Conchords
*Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Tony Shalhoub, Monk
Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men

* Parsons was never better than in the Christmas episode in which a emotionally defective Sheldon hugged Penny after she gives him the best Christmas gift ever: a napkin drenched in Leonard Nimoy’s DNA. Wisely, that’s the one he submitted to Emmy voters. READ FULL STORY »
