Exclusive: Michaela Watkins 'shocked' by 'SNL' firing

Categories: Saturday Night Live

Michaela-Watkins_lBitch, pleeeeze. That sums up my reaction to the news that Saturday Night Live has dropped the hilarious Michaela Watkins from the cast. In just one short year, Watkins gave birth to a slew of memorable characters and impersonations, most notably bitchpleeze.com blogger Angie Tempura and Today‘s Hoda Kotb. (Watkins’ co-star Casey Wilson was also axed.) What the heck was Lorne Michaels thinking? Dude’s not talking so I tracked down the next best thing: Michaela herself.

What was Lorne Michaels thinking?
MICHAELA WATKINS:
I don’t think anyone knows what Lorne Michaels was thinking. That’s one of the exciting things about him. If he were to vanish the show would just freeze. Not a single thing would be shot because so much hinges on him. READ FULL STORY »

'Chuck' exclusive: Angie Harmon wants Capt. Awesome dead!

Categories: Chuck

Harmon-McPartlin-Chuck_lCaptain Awesome is in danger of becoming Captain Deadasadoornail if this latest Chuck casting scoop is any indication: Ex-Law & Order ADA Angie Harmon has signed on to guest star in this season’s fourth episode as Sydney, a spy for the Ring who wants to whack Ryan McPartlin’s awe-obsessed alter ego.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it three times in the past week: NBC, please don’t make us wait until March for new Chuck episodes. I’ll do anything you want. I’ll even forgive you for Knight Rider. And Coupling. Just name your price.

Thursday ratings: 'Big Brother,' repeats put CBS ahead

Categories: Reality TV, TV Ratings

Doldrums, thy name is “the first week of September.” Big Brother 11 was the only new network programming on last night, which perhaps contributed to its solid numbers. CBS’s reruns owned the rest of the night as well, beating its combined competition at 10 p.m.. Fox’s “tweet-peat” of Fringe didn’t quite set the world on fire as Fox might have hoped, and lost nearly 500,000 viewers in its second half.

'Gossip' guy Neal Bledsoe kisses (Ed Westwick) and tells: Was it good for him?

Categories: Gossip Girl

Neal-Bledsoe_lIn a matter of minutes last week, Neal Bledsoe went from being a mostly unknown actor to the guy who made out with Ed Westwick on Gossip Girl. The headline-making kiss doesn’t air until Oct. 19, but Bledsoe — who plays a gay NYU alumni whom Blair pimps boyfriend Chuck out to — happily offered us a sneak preview of the can’t-miss episode (and broke some big career news in the process).

How has your life changed in the past week?
NEAL BLEDSOE:
My mom is certainly a thousand times more proud of me. And it was my first experience with the paparazzi knowing my name, which was strange. I thought maybe Neil Diamond or Neil Sedaka was standing behind me. READ FULL STORY »

FIRST LOOK: Killer snakes rattle 'House'

Categories: Fall TV, House

House-Caduceus_lHere’s your first look at the final phase of Fox’s slithery “Snakes on a Cane” marketing campaign for House‘s sixth season. The caduceus-inspired image, which will be officially unveiled next Monday, was shot over the summer and, yes, those are real pythons canoodling Hugh Laurie. “I remember Hugh asking the snake wrangler if the snakes had names,” recalls exec producer Katie Jacobs. “He replied, ‘No, because they don’t come when you call.’” Does the artwork offer any hints about the upcoming season? “No real clues,” says Jacobs. “It’s irreverent. House is irreverent.” Not to mention fearless!

Ratings: 'Wipeout,' 'Talent' prevail; Fox gears up for next week

NBC’s America’s Got Talent brought in the most viewers Wednesday night, while ABC’s Wipeout won the 8 p.m. hour and was the night’s highest-performing telecast for adults 18-49. Fox attempted to psych everyone up for next week’s season premieres of both So You Think You Can Dance and Glee, with a “15 Best Dances” dancing special and a refresher episode of Glee, though both shows drew only modest numbers. ABC’s Crash Course performed decently, losing just half a million viewers from its series debut last Wednesday.

Armchair Casting Director: 'Melrose Place'

As my colleague Jessica Shaw just cracked upon seeing this fresh piece of casting intel, “Melrose is the new L Word!” The big difference? I’m going to watch Melrose.

Melissa: In her late 20s, she’s a gorgeous, sexy, lesbian Hollywood agent who sets her sights on Katie Cassidy’s Ella. Recurring potential.

ACD recommendation: Ditch the late 20s part and hire True Blood whack job Michelle Forbes!

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Grey's,' 'House,' 'Greek,' 'Mentalist,' 'Gossip Girl,' and more!

ask-ausiello_lGot a scoop request? An anonymous tip you’re dying to share? Just want to say hi? You can send any/all of the above to ausielloscoop@ew.com

Question: Grey’s Anatomy scoop on Owen and Cristina, please! —Jenilee
Ausiello:
They’re headed for a dry spell. In the season premiere, Amy Madigan’s shrink advises Owen against making any further sexy time with Cristina until he can get the voices in his head to shut the hell up. Relax, they’re not breaking up. Just taking things slooooow.

Question: No Grey’s Anatomy scoop in the last Ask Ausiello? Forget trying to get Mark-Lexie scoop, I’ll take anything on Grey’s at this point! —Maddy
Ausiello:
Too bad, because Mark-Lexie scoop is what you’re getting. “They’ve got a lot of challenges coming down the pike,” concedes exec producer Krista Vernoff. “The most consistent challenge is the one that’s built into the fabric of their relationship: He’s pushing 40, she’s in her early 20s.”

Question: What will happen to Patrick Dempsey on Grey’s when Ellen Pompeo heads off on maternity leave? —Jacob
Ausiello:
He’ll get some much-needed alone time. As exec producer Krista Vernoff explains, READ FULL STORY »

Exclusive: 'Smallville' heroine Kristin Kreuk joins 'Chuck'

Categories: Chuck, Smallville

chuck-kreuk-levi_lIf I didn’t know better I’d say Chuck‘s got a thing for Superman.

On the heels of Brandon Routh’s casting as a love interest for Sarah comes word that Smallville vet Kristin Kreuk is joining Chuck for multiple episodes as Hannah, a girl Chuck meets on a flight to Paris. “Chuck and Hannah definitely have feelings for each other,” teases an insider. Exclusive: Katherine Heigl takes 'Grey's Anatomy' leave of absence

Categories: Fall TV, Grey's Anatomy

Katherine-Heigl_lKatherine Heigl won’t have to worry about putting in long hours on the Grey’s Anatomy set for much longer. Sources confirm to me exclusively that the actress is taking a five-episode hiatus from the ABC drama to go shoot the Greg Berlanti-directed romantic comedy Life as We Know It.

ABC and Grey’s producers have accommodated Heigl’s busy film schedule before, but this is the first time they have given her permission to leave the show for an extended period of time. I’m told Heigl’s absence will be explained on screen, although it’s not clear what prompts Izzie to take off. (Marital trouble with Alex? A trip home to see mom? A Denny sighting in the Caribbean?) Jerry Seinfeld talks about the 'Seinfeld' reunion on 'Curb'

Categories: Television, TV Biz

jerry-seinfeld_lThe cast of Seinfeld is reuniting on Curb Your Enthusiasm this fall? Giddyup! The multi-episode story line on Larry David’s HBO comedy will follow our favorite pessimist as he recruits Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Michael Richards for a reunion show. You can read all about it in this week’s EW, but here are some bonus quotes from Mr. Seinfeld.

On why the cast decided to reunite:
“Doing it with Larry and on his show just seemed like the only possible way it would be fun….We would never do the type of thing that these shows usually do. That wouldn’t be our style. But something like this — that was sillier and a little more offbeat — felt like it might be right for us.”

On possibly passing up big bucks if the gang had held out for a traditional “reunion show”:
“I don’t think we really thought about that. If we were about the money we would have kept doing the show. We were about: ‘What would be the biggest treat for the audience?’” READ FULL STORY »
