CBS grabbed its rating win back from ABC’s clutches this week with some fall-off from last week’s FlashForward premiere: The new drama lost a little over a million viewers, but still thoroughly topped the rest of its competition. Parks and Recreation and Fringe both notched modest increases over last week, and Private Practice returned for a strong premiere, but couldn’t come close to catching The Mentalist.

They need to add the Adults 18-49 ratings to get the big picture. It paints a better picture of who is watching the shows and that what advertisers look at. In Adults 18-49, Grey’s and Private practice beat the CSI and the mentalist.
I will never get the “18-49″ demographic importance. I mean if people 50-65 are watching CSI they can sell retirement, pills, ed, new cars, Disney without kids, grandkids etc. It’s not like people over 49 stop spending money.

Yeah, but people 18-49 are more likely to buy the more expensive things that are non-essential. If you are apple, who would you market your $500 iphone to, 18-49 year olds or the older generation? Apple more money to spend on advertising. The 18-49 buy more cars, they go out and drink a lot more beer. they are parents of kids who still live at home so they have large households (more thing to buy) and also they pay for the disney and other kids stuff.
Too many really good shows are on Thursday nights now, and it is hurting the like of Fringe and NBC comedies
fringe should be moved to wednesdays at 9, not too competitive…whats on at that time on fox?
I’m so happy to see the great numbers for “Private Practice.” Last year’s cliffhanger was riveting, and the writing and acting in last night’s premiere was top-notch, particularly Kate Walsh, Tim Daly, and Amy Brenneman. Critics have been unfairly critical of this “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff. I’ve not yet seen any valid criticism, and I suspect the issue is that PP has a different tone than GA.
Yikes for Supernatural! Too bad because it’s such a fantastic show.
well, at least Supernatural didn’t drop from last week, that’s a good sign, and diane you should check out tvbythenumbers.com to understand why the 18-49 is so important.
Yikes! Is this why EW didn’t have a Fringe recap today (or am I too early)? I really hope Fox doesn’t get spooked by the numbers.
The Private Practice premiere was really great. Kate Walsh did an amazing job.
Private Practice was great last night. Kate Walsh turned in yet another performance showing why she got her own show. And we learnt a little more about Tim Daly’s Pete.
Leno’s ratings are MIA. What an embarrassment.
Private Practice is at its peak in terms of quality.
I’m on the same page as Danny. When critics, reviewers, and/or commentors, write nasty, negative comments about quality shows with great writing, and fantastic acting while hyping bad/boring shows I immendiately know not to trust in anything else they have to say because they obviously have hidden agendas. That said, I am thrilled for both the cast of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Maligned and ridiculed unfairly, Shonda and crew are back with a vengence!
FLASHFORWARD is such a great show…I love the editing, the flashes, the awesome visual effects and love to follow the confusing (thats why I like it…the mystery of it) story line….I hope they move it so Survivor does not bring it down….so far its doing over 10 million and thats a success on most shows and nights.
