9 million sounds great to me, better if you compare Friday night ratings of some other shows, then it pretty darn awesome. I enjoyed the show from beginning to end. I knew a lot about the show before it came on from CBS online previews. Love Alex O’Loughlin’s performance. The ending of the episode was touching. He held the patients hand asking her to squeeze it if she understood what he was saying (checking comprehension and brain function). Wonderful bedside manner, that Dr. Andy Yablonski. Alex and Daniel are the best two hunks on tv. Thank you CBS, thank you!
I only watched Three Rivers because I wanted to see how Katherine Moennig will fare as a female doctor but I was disappointed. It just isn’t the same if she’s not playing a lesbian. Her character is boring, no charisma whatsoever, so unlike Shane. I think I will forever see her as Shane from The L Word.
Now, about the show…I like medical dramas but this show really disappoints. The writing is bad, the acting strained. I felt no emotion from the characters even if the scenes were supposed to be sad like deciding to donate one’s loved one’s organs. The doctors aren’t endearing unlike those from that show from ABC. They didn’t connect with their patients mainly because the writers couldn’t supply the actors with better lines. Ugh, there are a lot of things that’s wrong with this show.
“Unless you are a Nielson household, it doesn’t really matter what you do. I think the real problem is that we need to get rid of this outdated system and find a new way to measure who watches what when.”
Amen to that.
And who indeed had the idea that a new show can be judged put up against a major football game. And since when is 9 million viewers considered inadequate in this day and age when people DVR and Tivo?
It’s one of the few shows that actually has more than just base entertainment value; it promotes organ donation.
PS: Can we watch at least a few more episodes before we shoot a new show down? Give it a chance.

I just realized that when the football season ends, Alex’s Three Rivers would be up against The Marriage Ref and Donald Trump’s The Apprentice. I think Alex can beat that on NBC given time.
I loved the show. I would watch Alex in anything. This show has to make it. I can’t stand the Alex withdrawls any longer…
I hope CBS gives THREE RIVERS a chance. I like that it is without a snarky or soapy tone. Sunday is a tough night. The premiere numbers are not super but hardly a disaster considering that competition. If the drama finds its focus fairly quickly, it may be able to find stronger life in a new time slot.
While 9 million viewers appears to be good numbers, it appears that of that number, only 2 million are from the desired demographic of 18 to 49 year olds, and an an even smaller number would fit into the “golden” demographic of 18 to 35 year olds.
CBS cares about the “golden” demographic. They don’t care about any other viewers. It’s a business decision on their part.
CBS onky put on “Three Rivers” because viewers got IRATE when “Moonlight” was Cancelled. They thought they were doing us a aervice by puttin Alex O’Louglin back in a series.. Why not just bring back Moonmlight which I’m sure what far better than Three Rivers. We are now bombarded with Medical Dramas. I’m sure if CBS would have kept “Moonligh” it’s rating would have been far better . JUST MHO And then when CBS puts a doubleheader football game on it will be delayed buy some 40 mins which won’t help the problem
As a recent liver transplant recipient (June 11 this year), I was looking forward to a drama about transplantation. I was, however, disappointed with the storyline of the first episode of Three Rivers. The story of the man who confronts the surgeon in the hospital about getting a heart transplant was absolutely ridiculous. That is definitely not the way to get on a waiting list. It may make for good TV, but it is far from the truth. I was diagnosed on September 11, 2001 with Hepatitis C and Cirrhosis caused by it. I was transplanted exactly 7 years and 9 months later. For those uninitiated, all potential organ recipients in the U.S. are put on a list that is set up by the government. It is called the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS.org). There are over 110,000 people on this list waiting for various organs. Unfortunatly, there are only about 12,000 transplant done each year in total. Many, many people on the waiting list die while waiting for a donated organ. In this day of modern medicine, this is an outrageous thing. This is due completely to a lack of donors. Many factors go into a families’ or individuals’ decision to donate organs. People need to be better informed about donation so that there are more potential donors available. One donor can help to save upt to 75 lives. Can you think of a better legacy than that?
Another thing about the show that irritated me was the atitude of the transplant coordinator on the show when he confronted the daughter of the heart donor. That is not done in most cases and the coordinators are trained not to confront the family of potential donors. The decision is entirely theirs, and his actions probably would not have changed many peoples minds.
Apart from these items, I think the show was good and I would like to follow the storyline even longer. I hope that the writers get some more input from transplant specialists, donor families, and organ recipients to make the show a little more realistic. Drama for TV is good, but it needs to be accurate and believable.
I’ll tell you why Three Rivers didn’t perform well–that long 35 day wait until October 4th and the mixed to bad reviews on it! Nobody shouldn’t have to wait that long until October for a new show! It borderlines on offensive wtih how the network started it so late! They should have started it on Sept. 27th or something! I think they were expecting 10 or 12 million viewers against the football and that Desperate Housewives has been on for 5 years (people tend to quit watching long running shows after 5 yrs and want to watch a new show instead). So they were counting on the show to do well and the 9.2 million seems short on the estimates.
i loved the show and i’m excited to have kate moennig back on my tv! ill def watch it!
We watched Three Rivers and we found it very interesting. Finally a good hospital show where Drs are saving lives and now screwing. Worth watching. Thanks
Sorry meant Not scewing.
Three Rivers is great. Don’t cancel another good show. It’s worth watching.
