'30 Rock' exclusive: Liz plots against 'Daily Show' grad Nate Corddry

Tags: , News

30-Rock-Cordry-Fey_lTurns out Jon Hamm isn’t the only famous person living in Liz Lemon’s NYC apartment building.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that 30 Rock has tapped former Daily Show correspondent Nate Corddry to play Liz’s upstairs neighbor, Brian.

The actor-comedian — most recently seen as restaurateur-slash-stalker Gene Stuart on Showtime’s United States of Tara — will guest star in this season’s sixth episode.

The plot finds duplex-obsessed Liz scheming to get Brian to ditch his apartment so she can buy it and combine it with hers. Natch, her plan hits a snag when she discovers… um… something unexpected and extremely spoilery.

Guesses?!

He kinda looks like that guy from Studio 60.

    • Marta

      Uh…

    • sam

He kinda IS that guy from Studio 60.

  • Jacob

He is that guy from Studio 60…

  • couchgrouch

Liz discovers Rachel Dratch’s career under a pile of old Entertainment Weeklys in the guy’s bathroom.

      ROFL!

  • Chris Shifty

That he has been stalking and video taping Liz inside her apartment?

Jon Hamm has to show up again. Her Exs find a way back into her life and he lives in her building.

    • maddie

No, Jon Hamm doesn’t live there anymore, remember? He moved away so he could go into “the bubble” again

  • sam

I loved Mr. Corddry on S60. I didn’t even know he was a Daily Show correspondent! I hope his role is recurring. He and Lucy Davis really made the last half of Studio for me.

  • Michelle

He looks like Tim Canterbury [Martin Freeman] from the UK Office. :)

  • becky

I don’t think Nate Cordry was on the Daily Show. his brother Rob Cordry was.

    • lls

      they both were

  • Megan

I don’t think he was ever on the Daily Show. I only remember Rob Cordry.

    • Megan

Alright, he WAS on the Daily Show, but only for 12 episodes. His brother Rob however was on the Daily how 542 times. Nate Corddry is not the Daily Show alum I was expecting.

  • Vetinari

It’s probably something good about him, otherwise it wouldn’t be much of a surprise. Plus he looks like good casting for a romantic match for her.

  • metal2000

Nate wasn’t on the Daily Show for very long, but he did join his brother for I think about 4-6 months or so — only appearing on the show for 2 or 3 segments.

  • Stunt casting

…to save this overrated show from dismal ratings isn’t going to help.

    • dave

He’s not that big of a star (if he is one at all), so I wouldn’t consider it stunt casting.

  • Will

I wouldn’t be surprised if an endangered type of bird lives in the walls between her and him, therefore she couldn’t tear it down…but how would they make that funny…

  • couchgrouch

overrated? maybe you haven’t seen the latest eps of Big Bang Theory…crank the laugh track to 11 because YIKES…you can see them canned geek jokes coming a mile away.

    • dave

Omg finally someone else on this site that doesn’t care for The Big Bang Theory. Everyone on EW.com raves about that show so much, I figured I should check it out. Talk about overrated! It’s one of the highest-rated sitcoms, everyone talks about how gut-busting hilarious it is, and it barely got a chuckle out of me. And my goodness, the laugh track is so loud, it’s ridiculously distracting. I don’t mind shows with an audience or laugh-track, but I mean on BBT, they laugh at every single sentence that comes out of the characters’ mouths, even if it’s not a joke.

    • metal2000

I like Big Bang Theory AND I agree with you.

The canned laughter is annoying, a good chunk of the jokes ARE predictable, but any time Jim Parson speaks, I can’t help but laugh.

  • Sam

YAY! I love Nate Corddry (one of my under-the-radar crushes). I don’t even watch 30 Rock, but maybe I’ll try to catch him on it.

  • mark in nyc

Playing a little loose with the term famous aren’t we?

    • cah215

Yeah, seems like Jon Hamm and Nate Cordry are on opposite ends of the word “famous.” Still, it’ll be interesting to see him on the show. Hamm’s appearance aside, I usually prefer “30 Rock” when the guest stars aren’t of Jennifer-Aniston-esque fame.

      • Jamie

I’d say Hamm and Cordry are on the same side of famous. If someone doesn’t watch Mad Men, they probably have no idea who Jon Hamm is. He’s not all that famous.
