I really, really wanted to like this show. I tried so hard. I can’t even bother the time to watch it on Hulu much less on a Friday night.
It’s got an interesting premise and Epitaph One showed how well it could be if it were allowed to continue – but if FOX hadn’t meddled in the first few episodes of the first season, had promoted it and put it in a better time slot, and used a different actress for Echo instead of Eliza Dushku (I know, she had the deal with FOX and brought Joss on board), it might have been better. All these mitigating factors really hurts it, and though I am intrigued, I won’t be all that sad if it were canceled.
This past episode was amazing too.
It’s really very simple. Some people “get” Joss’s sort of intelligent storytelling. Some people don’t.
Obviously Fux is full of people who don’t get it. They didn’t get Firefly, either. Joss’s only blame here is trusting another of his gems to this sorry excuse of a network. When are they going to learn that the Friday night time slot of Death is NEVER going to perform the way they want it to, unless they fill it with reality crap that the mindless American sheep can cling to?
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! There aren’t very many good shows on TV and this is one of them. I can’t believe they are going to kill this show. Why do they bother making original series and then yanking them when they start to hit their stride. This is crushing.
Why doesn’t Fox do more to take advantage of Joss’ cult following? They have to see what Buffy, and even Firefly (which they killed), has gotten him. Maybe it’s not paying off right now, but it’s Joss freaking Whedon!
Cracks me up how people blame Fox. Nobody watches the show. It’s a ratings stinker.
I personally loved Firefly, but it was a dud on ratings as well. I wish they had given that show the same chance they gave this dud.
A nearly 30 year old chick, wearing leather outfits meant to turn on 15 year old males.. yeah.. Joss is a genius.
It takes Joss a season to develop the characters in most of his work, but FOX once again hasn’t the patience. Dollhouse is #3 of the top 5 on fancast this week which is a direct reflection of the quality building right up into the last episode. The problem is the show content is too deep and complex for the cartoon captivated audiences. While some may argue that’s it’s nothing but hookers and sex, they are missing the point. In reality we are all dolls and programmed and influenced by such forces as parents, bosses, teachers, advertising and most importantly, politicians. They all manipulate and feed information that will eventually get people to freely do their will. For many the results are good, but like so many of the politicians in our government they are doing everything in their power to get the voter to do their bidding. It’s good verses evil and the real treat is trying to figure out who is or isn’t the good guy.
FOX, once again you have taken a show with depth, layer upon layer of character development and endless possibilities and shoved it off to the side. For what? To show reruns!!! I’m beginning to see who the real bad guys are here.
What is with all these long paragraphs and most of them are being typed by people who dont like DH – go figure!
I LOVE the show and believe that they should change the slot to weekdays to get better ‘ratings’, I now on HATE that word, second is FOX.
P.S Im from London and do not understand the fascination with the focus on american viewers ….eh hello! there are people outside of America YA KNOW!!!!
This is crap!!! I love the Dollhouse!!! To take it off air and not continue is just plain stupid!
PLEASE SAY IT SO!!!! Stuck in house on friday nights and always looked forward to watching this show. Change it to another day and I am sure you will get more viewers
move the show to Syfy, where it will be appreciated and run the next 5 seasons.
Dollhouse was an awesome show. However, I barely EVER saw an ad for the show like they do for House or even those little pre-show ads they do before the premier. The one time I saw one, it was Eliza naked and looked like a prostitute drama. They did not advertise the show well and continue to not advertise it well. Plus, no one will start watching a show in the middle of its second season.
The show itself was good though, in my opinion.
Joss kind of dug its grave himself when he let the writing go for those few episodes last season. When you’re only making 13 damn episodes per season, you’d better damn well make them ALL at least GOOD. Great premise, fine actors – poor execution by Whedon. This one’s on him.
It really isn’t fair to blame FOX for this one. I adore Whedon and have watched everyone of his shows, and Dollhouse was never anywhere near the quality of Buffy, Angel, or Firefly. I was honestly shocked FOX renewed it for a second season at all. The good episodes were few and far between, and not enough to keep viewer interest. Sorry, Dollhouse fans, but this was inevitable. The show just wasn’t good enough.
