Scoop: 'Vampire Diaries,' 'Melrose Place' picked up!

melrose-vampire-diaries_lThis just in: Sources confirm that The CW has picked up The Vampire Diaries for a full season and Melrose Place for, well, a sorta-full season.

The back-nine order for Diaries was a no-brainer. The Kevin Williamson-produced thriller scored The CW’s best premiere ratings ever and has been a consistent demo dynamo on Thursday night.

Melrose, meanwhile, has been a ratings misfit, which explains The CW’s decision to pick up only five additional episodes instead of the typical nine. Of course, that number could go up if Heather Locklear is able to work her ratings magic next month.

Thoughts?

Great! I like both, so I’m glad they give them a chance

  • Ben

I’m not surprised about Melrose since they want to give it time to find it’s footing with Heather Locklear.

    • michelekamay

I’m not sure the return of Heather Locklear would change anything. They need to improve storylines, the writing and get rid of some actors who don’t want to loose themselves in the show! It’s Melrose Place, babe!

As far as Mr Williamson keeps full control on The Vampire Diaries, the show will be fine and my thursday nights too.

  • Sarah

    Yay!!

  • J

    I’m happy!

  • Dave

mikey, i love you, but please fix the grammar in the first sentence ;o)

  • Dave

BTW, yay for Melrose. I have no idea why I’m so addicted to it … but I can’t help it!

  • alemap

how about if they got rid of Ashlee on Melrose? The girl needs an acting coach. Pronto.

    • jcdc13

She has neither the looks or the acting skills the role requires.

    • Modwild

I’m so with you on this. She was better when she was in the movie Undiscovered. Her nose was still big and apparently her ego less inflated, which allowed her to “act” rather than pose and pout in acting’s place. Yikes.

    • Jed

Yes!! Do this!! Killing her off would be huge ratings! People would be interested. Sorry Ash, I can deal with you music but your acting is BAD.

      • meg

omg i know!! this is one of my favorite new shows, but I cannot stand ashlee simpson. she drives me NUTS.

    • Dave

Ashlee is getting better week after week! I am a fan of her, but she’s really good as a psycho! People should watch Melrose, it’s pretty good. Ratings? Do they consider people watching the show on others channels? People who record it and watch it the day after?

    • Kaley

Yes, please kill off Ashlee! Melrose Place is great except for her.

  • Michelle

Two days of good news in a row? Yippee! First Castle and now Vampire Diaries! Thanks CW!

    • wrstlgirl

      What she said!!

  • davidsask

Hopefully Ashlee is character that dies!

  • snicka

My thoughts are that Ashley Simpson wentz is the worst actress ever. Yay for Vampire Diaries, the show is amazingly fun.

  • Jen

LOL at Melrose getting renewed! What do the haters have to say now?

    • Nathalie

First of all it wasn’t renewed it was given 5 more episodes, being renewed is when they give a show another season…the raitIngs suck so they should be lucky that they even considered given them 5 episodes. If Heather Locklear doesn’t give MP a boost in raiting you can kiss the show goodbye

    • joe

the show is still bad there hoping that heathers on the show will help it

  • ESperanza

VP is great and MP could be ok but it needs some serious retooling. Katie Cassidy is obviously the break out star of the show and she has yet to have a real story line that didn’t involve the annoying engaged couple.

    • Jess

I absolutely love Katie Cassidy. She’s the only reason I watch the show at all. Loved her on Supernatural, love her on MP. She’s incredibly talented.

  • Tony

    Jen,

The haters would say that Melrose is a bad show on a bad network with really bad ratings. They would also say that the only reason they picked up 5 additional episodes was to save face and because they only have one midseason replacement show so they have nothing to put in that timeslot from Mar-May.

That’s what they would say…and THEY would be correct.

BTW. It really took them 6 weeks to give a back 9 order to Vampire Diaries? It is by far and away CW’s biggest success in the last 5 years. It really was a no brainer. If the CW doesn’t go belly up, VD will be around for a while.

  • erin

love the vampire diaries, so happy to hear this news!! :)

    • ShutUpRob

      Yay for Dawson’s Teeth!
