Exclusive: Benjamin Bratt returns to 'Law & Order'

Tags: , News

Benjamin-Bratt_lThis should boost those sagging Friday ratings.

Benjamin Bratt has signed on to reprise his role as Det. Rey Curtis on Law & Order, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Bratt, who vacated the mothership a decade ago, will shoot his one-episode comeback next month. I’m told the actor will figure heavily in a story involving S. Epatha Merkerson’s Van Buren. Might he be back to comfort her during her current health crisis? That’s my guess.

Happy to have Det. Curtis back, even if it’s just for one episode? Sound off below!

If he’s now married to Lisa Lundquist, I’m all for it.

bad move, not for it – get rid of thomas wayne’s assistant and the chubby cop and the show would be good again. CI is the best of the 3 with jeff goldblum leading the way

      • Veronica

Are you kidding? I like the cops they have now…but I LOVE Ben Bratt…Jeff Goldblum is good…but not better than Vincent and CI is now were near as POWERFUL as SVU.

      • Ryan

You mean get rid of Thomas Wayne?

      • Barbra

The “chubby” copy is Anthony Anderson, and he is a great addition to the show…what does a little more color on the show bother you???

      • Chris Rothbauer

Why does it always have to come back to race? I agree with the commenter that Anthony Anderson is weak in the role of a cop. He was a horrible replacement for the wonderful Jesse L. Martin (who was also black btw and I loved). Maybe they need to bring Rey back permanently and partner him with Jeremy Sisto.

    • Jen

Pffttt. SVU is the best of the three in my estimation. Followed extremely closely by the Mother Ship. CI is nowhere in the stratosphere.

    • Elliot Wynters

Who was played by the amazing Lauren Graham!!!

    • Barb

Great idea, I loved him, he was great, now if you can exhume Lenny, I’d be happy

    • Dee

She was not hot enough to be with him.

  • Bill from Las Vegas

I was never a fan of Curtis, he always seemed to act as if he was morally superior to everyone else. I had wondered if maybe the producers would have him back for an episode highlighting assisted suicide where Curtis was accused of killing his wife who was suffering from either MS or MD. It would be fun to see him try to justify his actions.

  • Bia

OW MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! that’s one of the bests news in L&O. I am SO happy! =D

  • Sara Busch

OUTSTANDING!!!! I HAVE REALLY MISSED HIM.

    • eve

Totally agree, now maybe I will watch the show. Hope that he will make more than one appearance.

  • Kvivik

As long as it isn’t just a 5 minute appearance. Make him part of the case and I’m all for it.

  • Sarah

Wow he’ll be popping up everywhere soon. First Modern Family, now back for L&O.

  • Ronnie

I miss his character, it was an excellent counter balance to Lenny’s world weary view.

  • Ruben

I miss Lenny, after he left, I stopped watching.

    • chicadarina

The actor who played Lenny died. That’s why he’s no longer part of the show.

      • EKS

Actually, he did leave. On L&O prime he “retired”. After he had went over to L&O:Trial By Jury as an investigator, he passed away after the first couple episodes were filmed.

  • jfms777

Of course he took this reprised-role. He is an out of work actor. His own tv show got axed.

  • Alice

Lenny didn’t leave! Jerry Orbach died.

    • Mavis

Actually, Lenny retired from the force while on the mothership series. He then moved onto the L&O show that didn’t last that long (the name is escaping me), he was supposed to rotate as a DA investigator and while on that show Jerry Orbach passed away. But he had officially left the mother ship show before passing away.

      • tim

Jerry Orbach knew he was ill when he left the mothership. I thought Bratt and Orbach made the best team of detectives on the show. I look forward to Bratt coming back.

  • Cydney

HElltothe yeah! I’m grad Bratt is back!!! Too bad they can’t convince him to stay on permanently since the series is going to hades in a handbasket. Too bad we can’t get Big- Chris Noth and Mike Moriarty and his partner back on an episode.Dang!

    • Jen

Unfortunately, NBC f*ed the lineup by moving SVU and L&O out of their prime spots for DUMBASS LENO. NBC FAILS major. Idiots. That’s what you get. Unfortunately, I watch several other series on the same time as L&O so I try to catch up online. *sigh* not the same…. And SVU is FINALLY getting back its viewers. What the HELL was NBC thinking? Not with their heads. That’s for damn sure.

  • Cydney

    *GLAD!

  • m

    Hey Ruben,

Lenny did not leave, the actor died!!

    • Jackie

Read Mavis’ post above. Lenny left the original show before Jerry Orbach died.

      • Lib

Okay, okay, Lenny retired first. Did you ever think that maybe Jerry Orbach retired him BECAUSE he was sick with cancer? He had one last hurrah on L&O:Trial by Jury (much like Patrick Swayze and his show) before his body finally gave out. That said…..I will ALWAYS miss Jerry Orbach and Chris Noth as a team. Oh, yeah, and it is GREAT to have Benjamin Bratt back even if it’s only temporary.

  • Andrea

I only watched L&O when he and Jerry Orbach were on. They were my favorite partner duo. I’ll definitely tune in to the episode he is on.

    • Dee

      They were my favorites, too.

  • VJW

    Not without Lenny. :(

    • VJW

The best years of the show were with Bratt, Jerry Orbach and Angie Harmon!
