    Best new show:

    Glee!

  • emily

What about the Good Wife? I LOVE that show – all of the writing is superb and the acting is great too!

  • Maxsmom

I agree with yur assessment, though I haven’t tried Cougar Town, and I would add Community to the disappointments, especially considering I like the cast and premise, it just somehow disappoints where Modern Family exceeds expectations and gets better with each outing

    Most improved: Ugly Betty

I know it’s only 3 episodes into the season, but so far it has been fabulous. I’m just bummed that the show waited til it was shuffled to Fridays to finally find itself again. The ratings are straight-up depressing.

I TOTALLY AGREE. Ugly Betty is better than it has ever been. It’s funnier than ever, the acting is better and the writing is fantastic! It’s really sad to see it do bad on fridays but I still think it has huge potential. ABC killed it. They should move it to Wednesdays and kick off Eastwick.

    • Heidi

I agree. Ugly Betty is much improved. I am worried it will be cancelled though.

  • Alex

    Best new show: Glee!
Best returning show: Smallville. Last season was a mess, but they’re doing a really good job so far this year. I just hope it doesn’t go downhill from here…

    • paige

I am so glad somebody has finally mentioned Smallville! It has been such a great season so far that I can’t help but worry that it will go downhill too…

  • CK

Fully agree with the assessment, but just add Glee and Cougar Town as best new. Both shows are terrific. For worst new, add Three Rivers. What a dumbed-down cliche-laden mess it is

  • Belle

I completely agree about The Forgotten. I watched 20 minutes of the first episode and got seasick from all the references to their mission/calling/duty and how important the work they do is. IT was nauseating in its self congratulation. Yuck.

  • LA to LV

Best new shows: The Good Wife, Glee, Modern Family, The Middle, FlashForward

  • Michael Dance

Community has gotten very enjoyable. I wouldn’t say it’s an instant classic, but I’m enjoying watching the characters gel as the show goes on.

And everybody mentioning Glee — chill. EW writes like five articles about it per day, they don’t need to mention it in EVERYTHING.

  • Sparky

Best new show: The Good Wife and Vampire Diairies.
    Worst: Hank…

  • Matt

There are only 3 new shows I have continued to watch from day 1 this season: Glee, Modern Family, and Community. Community and Modern Family are the funniest, but Glee has some enjoyable story lines (and Jane Lynch kills me in this show).

Most Improved Show: Parks and Recreation; Ausiello, you’re spot on for that one.
Biggest Disappointment: Community; I had big expectations for it. It’s not necessarily bad, but it’s nowhere near as good as I thought it would be nor as good as all the pre-season hype said it would be.
Biggest Surprise: Eastwick. It’s not the best show ever or anything like that, but I expected it to be terrible. It’s actually quite fun and entertaining and has become a bit of a guilty pleasure.
Best New Show: Modern Family. I was actually afraid that this one wouldn’t live up to all your hype, Ausiello. But it really did. It’s one of the funniest shows on TV. But I’m not getting too comfortable with the high ratings. Let’s not forget what happened to Samantha Who?: it was one of the highest rated comedies on TV when it premiered (bigger ratings that Modern Fam gets now), but ABC destroyed it during season 2 by messing with it’s timeslot.
Worst New Shows: Hank, The Forgotten, Mercy, Brothers, Three Rivers, Accidentally on Purpose

  • bryan

worst show on tv the jay leno show.

  • Arianne

    Most Improved:
    Dollhouse, Dollhouse, Dollhouse!

  • Olivia

Best: Cougar Town, Vampire Diaries, Glee
Worst: The Middle – big let down.. it’s not funny, it’s depressing
