Exclusive: James Van Der Beek among 'The Forgotten'

james-vanderbeek_lTV’s obsession with casting Dawson Leery as a major creep continues…

James Van Der Beek, who in the past two years has played everything from a killer (on Criminal Minds) to a homophobic fashion designer (on Ugly Betty), has been tapped to portray a sleazy moneyman on ABC’s The Forgotten.

In the upcoming episode, the Beek will play Judd Shaw, a deceptive and opportunistic financial broker questioned by The Forgotten Network.

The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Forgotten — which is in danger of becoming just that if ratings don’t improve — airs Tuesdays at 10 pm/ET.

He was so creepy on Criminal Minds.

  • Barb

He was amazing on Criminal Minds. Those two episodes were my favorite. The way he pulled off those 3 characters was just wow.

Coincidentally, I just re-watched “The Rules of Attraction” this weekend and was once again impressed by him as a total creep in that movie (and by the movie overall actually – I know it’s controversial but I loved it all over again).

I used to watch Dawson’s Creek, and always liked his character the least (no backbone, whiny, annoying), but when he plays not so nice guys, his likeability as an actor increases tenfold. I’ve never seen this show, but I’m all for him working more – bring on the creepiness factor! (Oooh…please please please let him be a bad guy on Fringe – DC reunion!!)

LOL. That’s TV Karma for you. Spend six seasons subjecting us to the whiny, self-obsessed Dawson Leery and you get to play creeps for the rest of your career!

LMAO, ditto. That’s why I’ve always preferred Pacey. He was good on Criminal Minds, though.

  • Lynn

I loved him on Criminal Minds. His character(s) threw me for a loop.

  • John

My favorite creep role of his was as Robin’s ex on “How I Met Your Mother”, rocking the gut, the bald spot, and the cartoon Canadian accent!

I totally forgot he was on “HIMYM!”

Will ABC run “The Forgotten” long enough for the episode to air. And me thinks he’ll only have about 8 minutes total of air time. That show jumps around a lot.
(I actually like it, hope it improves and gets a chance. At least its on a network that has three hours of primetime instead of just two.)

I like “The Forgotten”. It is a decent show.

  • Mike

i liked him on one tree hill, he played a really good jerk, they should bring him back for an episode or 2

  • JJ

I liked him a lot on “How I Met Your Mother”

I SAY GO JAMES GO THERE ONLY SMALL ACTORS NOT ROLES .

  • Karine

I liked james on Dawson, Criminal Minds, HIMYM and OTH. He is a pretty good actor.

  • tessa

why so mean Aussie re: Forgotten, i’ve been watching it on internet and its actually quite interesting. Your comments are not appreciated, give it a chance

  • Kaite

Never liked Dawson’s Creek, especially him on it. But the more I think about it, I think it was just poor casting. He was absolutely stunning on Criminal Minds and hilariously creepy on HIMYM. I can now say that I think JVDB is a good actor. But Dawson’s Creek was still a bad show. Thank god for Fringe!
