'Smallville' scoop: Martian Manhunter returns!

Tags: , News

Phil-Morris_lSmallville‘s upcoming Justice Society-themed two-parter has added another headliner. Exec producer Kelly Souders confirms that the highly anticipated eppys (titled “Society” and slated to air in early 2010) will mark the return of Phil Morris as Martian Manhunter.

Penned by comic book hero Geoff Johns, “Society” marks the arrival of Justice Society members Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Stargirl. The abundance of special guest stars is what prompted Souders and fellow showrunner Brian Peterson to expand the episode into two parts.

“To be honest, there were so many characters and so much great story that people would’ve been robbed of some great moments if we kept it to just one hour,” says Sounders. “So now that it’s a two-parter, you won’t miss anything.”

Check out this week’s Ask Ausiello for more details on “Society.” In the meantime, riddle me this: Are you more pumped for “Society” now that MM is on board? Sound off below!

I don’t think it’s possible for me to be any more psyched about this episode than I’ve already been! But it’s great to hear that J’onn will be back! Hope he has his powers back!

  • Paul

It’s great that Phil Morris is returning and Geoff Johns is writing more Smallville. Hawkman & Dr. Fate are cool. Stargirl? Eh. WIth any luck, we’ll see some of our old Teen Titan, I mean, Justice folks, too, huh?

I don’t care what anyone says I love Smallville. And I get a special thrill every time they include another comic hero so this is going to be freaking awesome!

    • Jason

Could not have said it better myself.

    • Alex

I’m afraid I lost my thrill when they kept messing with the characters too much. So far the only comic character to look or behave anything like the comics was Zatanna. Black Canary was ridiculous and Green Arrow wasn’t much better. You’ll forgive me if I have low expectations for the JSA guys.

Not more pumped (Unless he actually takes on the look of Martian Manhunter)

    • 1whoknows

      Maybe you should watch. ;)

  • Sarah

wooooooohooooooo on the return of martian manhunter!!!!!! super excited!!!!

  • svfan

Did by any chance she mention if he was in 1 or 2 episode? MM definantly adds to the feel of it.

    • SamiaQ

In the article, and in spoilers, it mentions that MM will be appearing in part one (episode ‘Society’).

I hope MM makes more appearances. He is exceptionally great. And he can help CK out as well – after all, MM is really and truly the one remaining link to Krypton (excluding the FOS).

  • Jesse

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • brynna

Love Smallville, the awesomeness just gets better and better. All I need now is another Justice League Episode and this season will be amazing.

  • Kalie

Fantastic!! I was already excited about the Justice Society episode, especially when I heard it was being expanded to a two-parter. I was wondering when they’d bring Phil Morris back. Love him as Martian Manhunter!! IMO, he’s one of the best recurring characters they’ve ever had on the show.

  • Vanessa

    Best scoop ever!
