how come some many comments regarding religion add “God bless America”? I thought God was for all nations? or is this God invoked merely a US version like Wal-Mart?

    • irishlib

Probably because they live in America. I’m sure they didn’t mean to leave any other country out.

It would be a good thing to have Scientology FINALLY investigated by the State of FLorida that OBVIOUSLY has it’s pockets greased locally by the Scientologists that operate in Clearwater. Politicians and counclimen beware you will be exposed and you will be held accoutnable for “looking the other way” while countless individuals ran out of money AND favor with the local sect here and were ordered to the streets and expelled from the compound WITHOUT a wallet, passport or a dime to call home with. NOT true?? Ask the local policemen that ARE NOT on the Scientology payroll. They know. They share. Word is out. It is only a matter of time before this group is exposed for the damages and crimes they have committed. St Pete Times should win a Nobel prize for their reporting… All this and I am just a local “no one” that listens, reads and watches what happens.. Like I said it is just a matter of time.

I am a little disgusted at how both sides are represented in this argument, I guess the internet gives you a feeling of freedom to express your views in a condescending and judgmental manner. Christian or not, that’s just wrong. We weren’t put here to judge one another. I believe in Jesus, and I also believe that God gave all of us a free will to choose to believe what we want to. I respect those who don’t believe what I do, and I don’t think it’s my place to chastise anyone unless they are being disrespectful of my free will to choose. Don’t call me a fool for being a Christian. It is my choice and I have chosen to believe. Although I disagree with those of you who are not followers of Christ, I would never call you idiots, because I respect your choice. I have been a Christian for many years and studied to make sure I know exactly why I believe what I do. I can defend myself, but I don’t think I should have to unless I’m in a forum where someone genuinely wants to know why I hold the beliefs I do without intent to judge me. No matter if you believe he was God’s son or not, Jesus’s message was one of love and acceptance while teaching the gospel, not getting angry and calling names.

      AMEN!

  • Faith

Fact! You have one life to live. Living in a free country gives us the option to believe and live the way we please. Our faith is individual. A person will believe as they were taught and raised as children. You plant an apple seed you’ll have an apple tree, you plant in a child disbelieve that there is a GOD and you’ll believe that there is no GOD. Either way, salvation is individual what matters is what I believe and that is; GOD is real no matter what anyone thinks or believes. GOD Bless America and our freedom to voice our opinion …..

    • Adam

All that matters is that… YOU believe what YOU want to believe!!! Nothing else matters.

Christianity is not a religion; its a way of life. The reason(s) why we refuse to believe and follow the Creator God is because we would then be accountable for our actions and sins. Its ironic, when natural disasters occur, when horrible tragedies take place we all beckon, cry and plead for God! But at the end of the day, we want when its all said and done, we go on our merry way and forget. We must never forget that while Christ hated sin because He himself is Holy, he loves the sinner. Confession (admit your sin) and repentance (turn from your sinful ways) is what we all NEED to do. The Bible has more than enough evidence to prove itself. The Word (bible) needs no defending, it defends itself. We refuse to see the truth because we are all dead in sin and trespasses. However, if we humble ourselves before the Almighty hand of God, he will have mercy. We have two options either believe Christ is the Son of God, being equal to God or refuse to believe. Either way, when its all said and done, its God who has the last word, and part of eternal torment is forever being separated by God, and yet being reminded every moment for eternity each moment that the Gospel was presented to us. If we open our hearts for truth and read the Bible, we will see, if we seek in spirit and truth, for He is the Spirit of Truth.

    • Adam

K…. How do you know this?!?! My question to you is, why is Christianity the only way? It’s because it is what you grew up learning from your parents, relatives, etc… YOU believe what you see to be true. There is no argument here. That’s the world we live in and that’s how it goes. If you believe that being a Christian is the correct way, then you are correct because it comes down to you and only you. If you believe Buddhism is the way, then you are correct as well. The point here is… you believe truth where you want to see truth… Nothing more.

You can have your way of life and it’s ok by my if you want to believe in foolishness. There are plenty of great philosophies out there and plenty of “true believers” that will defend their version of “truth” to their dying day. I’ve had it with self-rightious zealots that have wrapped up the universe and all of eternity into a nice, tidy package and say “here it is, believe this or you’re headed for damnation”. Sure, the bible is a great tool for historical documentation but ….. I could go on …… I’m just fed up with the ignorant religious, zealots of this world, that’s all. You too, Scientologists!! Lord have mercy!!

Just look at Katie Holmes, walks around like a zombie. How long will Suri be drinking out of a bottle, that swill they have her drink.

Ah the Bible, the greastest story ever written man.The best story tellers in the universe.Even the top theologians of the Catholic Church are rethinking the therory of ancient astronauts.Angels, chairiots of fire, and all that biblical stuff is under scrutiny. Can you explain the drawing on cave walls by ancient man of the things they saw.Figures in space suits and helmets, flying machines and such.Even the Egyptians seen these things and made record of them.If we are the only intelligent life in the universe why did God waste his time creating billions upon billions of galixies in the universe that we know do exist.Question 2:If God does exist in the fashion religion believes and he is all mighty and forgiving being, why does he allow the the torturing, raping, and murder of our innocent little children?Don’t tell me he has a plan for them, that’s a line of BS.No child should be allowed to die that way.I’m not an Athiest,I just don’t believe God is who religions believe he/she is.Question 3:if you had 12 of your friends write a chapter of your life 50 years after you died, how accurate do you think it would be?Think about it.

  • Adam

Richard your slander shows your lack of credibility.

    • Richard Harris

Ah, Adam – If my lack of credibility means that I choose not to believe in foolishness, then so be it. I do, however, take issue with the notion of “slander”. There is certainly nothing slanderous about my statement as it is a completely subjective observation. I also don’t really care how you want to “spin” your universe to suit your version of eternity. Just as long as you understand that you don’t really have a clue.

      • Adam

You know I was thinking about this ony my way home from work just now. I had realized I was just fueling the fire… So let’s leave it at this… Your belief is your belief and I absolutely have no problem with that. Now for me, I have different views that you may not see eye to eye with me. The sad thing about this whole topic is that it causes controversy and negative disputes. I’m sorry that I came across antagonistic, that is not my ways. I’m sure you are a good man and that you mean well. Have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy the Holidays.

    pdarwin and others,

I encourage you to read the book A Case for Faith by Lee Strobel. He was an atheist and a journalist who set out to prove there was no God but to his surprise he came to a totally different conclusion. You may or may not come to the same conclusion but why not check it out.

    In his book Strobel quotes
Biochemist Michael Behe of Lehigh University:
“The result of cumulative efforts to investigate the cell, to investigate life at the molecular level, is a loud, clear, piercing cry for design! The conclusion of intelligent design flows naturally from the data itself, not from sacred books or sectarian beliefs. The reluctance of science to embrace the conclusion of intelligent design has no justifiable foundation. Many people, including many important and well-respected scientists, just don’t want there to be anything beyond nature.” He also quoted James Tour a Nanoscientist
at Rice University’s Department of Chemistry and Center for Nanoscal Science and Technology who has a doctorate in organic chemisty from Purdue University and post-doctoral work at Stanford University and Wisconsin. He stated: “I build molecules for a living. I can’t begin to tell you how difficult that job is. I stand in awe of God because of what He has done through His creation. Only a rookie who knows nothing about science would say science takes away from faith. If you really study science , it will bring you closer to God.”

    Hope you take a look.

    • Richard Harris

Adam – I thank you for your comment and I should tell you that I enjoy a heated debate and I, too, mean know harm. I sometimes wade into the religion debate because it is so very controversial and I get so darn hot about it. I wish you a happy Thanksgiving as well, my friend.

irishlib – I should tell you that while I get hot about religion, I am very interested in a spritual connection. I just finished a book that examins the quantum nature of the universe and various associations regarding biocentrism. I totally agree with you on this. I have a real problem with the god of western theology but I have a lot of interest in a more universal “connection” than what is offered by many religions.

Thanks for your posts and your interest. There is a great deal we all have left to learn, eh?

It amaizes me how ignorant people can be about the Bible and the Truth it speaks, yes it was writen
by Man(our Ancestors)about the accounts of the Past, Presant and our Future.
The bottom line is that everything in the Bible has been proven to be true..it don’t matter who wrote the Word of God..every thing is happening as it is printed
So if some Commoner just decided to write a bunch of lies then you NON BELEAVERS explain how it’s all happening as it is writen..they couldn’t of just GUESSED!
and there are still more things yet to happen …but it will as the time gets nearer..
You Atheist just don’t want to give up your sinful ways you want to call fun,So if EVERYTHING else in the Bible is coming true where does that leave those of you who cast down Gods word? think about that. If all else is coming to be as it is writen..so shall the penalties of your Sins, is that how you want to spend your Eternity?..If you think you can reject God now and recieve him later as you get older or just before the end of time..best think again!..and re-read the Book of revalations….ALL of US are running out of time..
I would rather live my life believing there is a God and find out there isn’t one…Then to live my life like there is no God and find out there IS!
jgm..proud to be a Christian although not perfect, I am and I WILL not take the sign of the Beast nor forsake thee!..AMEN!!

I think they are very similar in concept, both garner power, and self rightousnous. As long as you go along with what they say, and give them money-the machine continues to run. However, if you question their reality no matter how self-serving or ridiculous-you are an immediate outcast. They may say they will pray for you, but basically you are taboo-and you will not recieve any true help or support. No one dicipline rules my life, I believe you can take good from almost anything… a little here, a little there…and what the hell-try something new and try to form your own thoughts and believes.

Yes, the battle between science and religion to be the sole beacons of truth continues. Perhaps they are answering different questions. For me, Science answers the what and how. Taking the Bible for a scientific explanation is a very limited point of view. Likewise, religion answers the why. Science can tell you how the world was created, but it cannot tell you why it was created. Both Science and Religion have their purposes and both speak the truth from their own perspectives. People get way to hung up on 6 days, though it could have been six creative periods that lasted millions of years each. Or the flood, which could have been a local flood, but from Noah’s perspective seemed global. Or completely exclude the idea that God works through natural scientific law, and could have used evolution to “create man in his own image.” Why there is a big hang up on that one I will never know. What difference does it make if God made one prototype for each species, or used the same material and factory for the wonderous variety of species. I find the evolutionary story guided by God to be much more beautiful. To think that He took millions of years to get the earth just right for homo sapiens, the species created in his image, is awesome. Of course, none of these issues really matter when it comes down to the religious message of the Bible or other religious text. The heart of the religious message for Christians and other religions is to do good to others. It isn’t that the earth was created in six literal days or that the earth suffered a global flood. For Christians, the heart of the message is to learn what Christ did in his life and go and do likewise. What a terrible world it would be if people would learn to be a little more giving. But I digress. Let the age old struggle between science and religion to be the sole beacons of truth continue.
