Ratings: 'Bones,' 'FlashForward' still neck and neck

30 Rock‘s season premiere didn’t draw a huge audience but stayed in line with its numbers from the end of last season, while ratings were down slightly for NBC’s comedies over last week. Fringe‘s ratings continued to suffer in the competitive 9 p.m. bloc, while the 8 p.m. slot saw the race between Bones and FlashForward fall into a dead heat.

Exclusive: 'Gilmore' girl Lauren Graham on her big TV comeback

Lauren-Graham-interview_lSometimes the way the TV biz works leaves me scratching my head, going, “Huh?” Other times, I get it… it’s fate. This is definitely one of those. Because although ABC passed on Lauren Graham’s comedy pilot, she’s still returning to the tube this season, on NBC’s buzzy Parenthood series. And here, in her first interview since agreeing to step in for Maura Tierney as single mom Sarah, the Gilmore Girls gabber explains why she decided to join the all-star ensemble, why her new character is nothing like Lorelai, and what her new gig means for that much-discussed-by-me Gilmore movie.

Why did you decide to take the part?
LAUREN GRAHAM: It’s the best thing I’ve read. It’s was really that simple.

Any trepidation about signing another long-term TV commitment?
GRAHAM: Yeah. I’ve been out of that work for, I guess it’s been two-and-half years now. I did a Broadway show, I did three movies… I [enjoyed] working freelance like that. So, strangely, as much as I’ve been looking for a series almost since I ended that last one, it was almost like, “But wait… ” I’ve enjoyed [the variety] of projects I’ve done. That’s hard to think about giving up. READ FULL STORY »

Michael Weatherly on Tony and Ziva of 'NCIS': a relationship would be like 'Kryptonite'

Categories: Television

Weatherly-NCIS_lThere’s no mistaking the serious chemistry between Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Officer Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) on NCIS, but fans shouldn’t get too caught up in the will-they-or-won’t-they drama, warns the actor.”Let’s look at it from a practical angle,” Weatherly told EW.com exclusively. “It’s Kryptonite! She’s an assassin! That’s like marrying a hooker. You gotta be real comfortable with the fact she’s gonna go hook! I don’t see how, domestically, (a relationship) would work. But that’s me. Tony DiNozzo is completely unaware. You never know. Maybe they’ll be like those YouTube videos when you see the mongoose and the snake. Before they ever got together, one of them will kill each other. You never know.”

So far, NCIS fans have seen Ziva give Tony a peck on the cheek (in the season premiere last month, Tony and the team rescued Ziva from being held hostage). Is there more canoodling on the horizon? Weatherly is loathe to give any spoilers about future episodes, other than reassuring fans that “whatever is going to happen, it will not be cheesy. If I sense a beat coming up where I have to do something that feels forced and inauthentic, which I think would involve holding hands with Ziva, I will assume it’s because some greater hand is at work that involves a terrible ending.”

Lloyd and Schroeder will co-star opposite Bold’s Jennifer Gareis (Donna) and Aaron D. Spears (Justin) in flashback scenes of a high school homecoming dance from the ’80s.

Broadway's 'Bye Bye Birdie' stops mid-show, Bob Saget and Don Rickles to the rescue!

Categories: Misc.

Oh, the joys of live theater. The final preview performance of the Broadway revival of Bye Bye Birdie was halted for about 20 minutes Wednesday night when the electronically controlled set failed to clear during a scene change. The curtain fell on the big-budget musical, which is slated to open Thursday night, and star John Stamos appeared in front of a lights-up auditorium to stall for time as technicians worked backstage. Stamos called out to fellow celebs in the audience, including comedian Don Rickles, who shouted out from his seat to rib the former Full House star to get a haircut. “Are they gonna fix it or is this going to be a weekend?” Mr. Warmth added.

Then Stamos cajoled his Full House costar, Bob Saget, who was seated in the row behind Rickles, to come on stage and help him fill the time. Saget cracked a few jokes, speaking through the mic rigged to Stamos’ forehead. “I’m really glad your crotch is not miked.”

Stamos’ Bye Bye Birdie costar Gina Gershon also came out, asking the duo to keep vamping (at one point, she reappeared with an old poster of Stamos from his teen idol days). “I saw Full House for the first time a few weeks ago at the dentist’s,” Gershon said. “What was that about?” Saget replied: “Oh, it’s basically just like Brokeback Mountain — but as a sitcom.” Saget also asked Gershon: “Gina, do something from Showgirls.” (The actress obliged with a quick feathering of her hands in front of her face.) The rubber-bodied comic actor Bill Irwin, who plays the uptight father in Birdie, also emerged to perform a little clowning with the dropped curtain.

After a roughly 20-minute delay, the show resumed — appropriately enough, to the production number “Put on a Happy Face” — and ran through to the curtain call without further incident.

“Accidents happen,” Saget told EW after the show. “He’s my brother,” the comic said of Stamos. “I’d do anything for him. And he’s certainly always been there for me.” And noting that he had to clamber rather awkwardly onto the stage, Saget quipped, “I think I threw my knee out.”

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'NCIS,' 'House,' 'Grey's,' 'CSI,' 'Greek,' 'FNL,' and more!

Greys-Sandra-Oh-Isaiah_lGot a scoop request? An anonymous tip you’re dying to share? Just want to say hi? You can send any/all of the above to ausielloscoop@ew.com

Question: Is it at all possible that Shonda Rhimes would bring Isaiah Washington back to Grey’s Anatomy for even one episode now that T.R. Knight has left the show? —Ben
Ausiello:
Listen to me very carefully, because I’m only going to say this once: Never. Gonna. Happen. But Washington kinda-sorta gets a shout-out in this week’s episode when Owen-lovin’ Cristina utters three shocking words: “I miss Burke.”

Question: Sounds like you’ve already seen this week’s Grey’s, so I’ve got a Q: Any good Mer-Der scenes? —Megan
Ausiello:
Nothing stands out on the Mer-Der front, but there’s a memorable Mer-Cristina-Alex scene at the end that will have you crying and laughing (and in that order).

Question: Any Grey’s scoop? —Sharon
Ausiello:
You already know that someone gets fired in this week’s episode. But what you may not know is that someone gets fired next week, too!

Question: Julie Benz just Twittered a photo of a guy she says will be part of a big reveal in the Dexter season finale. What can you tell us about this? —Matt
Ausiello:
Here’s what I can tell you: If this guy is who I think he is, fans are not going to be happy.

Question: Jenny is so boring on Gossip Girl. Please tell me she will become mean. —Juliana
Ausiello:
Mean enough to drive her BFF away. I hear Jenny and Eric’s relationship will suffer big time due to her new “Queen Bee” status. READ FULL STORY »

Jorja-Fox-CSI_lThis long-distance marriage thing seems to be working for Grissom and Sara on CSI. Exec producer Carol Mendelsohn confirms to me exclusively that Jorja Fox’s five-episode comeback has been extended indefinitely.

“We will be seeing a lot more of Jorja,” says Mendelsohn. “The season is about bringing the [CSI] family back together again, so [this] was just a natural. Jorja has been the glue that has really helped to reform the bond of our team.” READ FULL STORY »

Ratings: Week three goes to—shocker!—'NCIS'

Three weeks into the 2009-10 TV season, and a trend is emerging: CBS’s NCIS is on top! For the week ending Oct. 11, the procedural Navy drama pulled in an impressive 20.7 million viewers to land at No. 1. And the competition wasn’t even nipping at its heels: ABC’s Dancing with the Stars pulled in 16.4 million for No. 2; and NCIS spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles drew just below that, 16.3 million viewers, for No. 3.

Since all of fall’s big shows have already premiered, the rest of the Top 20 for the week was surprisingly similar to the first two weeks, too. Lots of CBS procedurals and comedies, a smattering from ABC (Dancing with the Stars results on Tuesday, Desperate Housewives, and Grey’s Anatomy), Fox’s House, and—no surprise!—just Sunday Night Football on NBC. The CW, as usual, didn’t appear in the Top 20 at all.

The full listing—with viewership totals—is after the jump.

'Supernatural' first look: Sam and Dean check into Seattle Grace!

supernatural-greys_lThey don’t literally check into Seattle Grace. ABC would never allow that. Instead, the Nov. 5 episode — appropriately titled “Changing Channels” — finds the brothers Winchester trapped in some very familiar TV settings. In addition to their Grey’s Anatomy cameo (pictured), Sam and Dean cross over into a CSI-type series as well as a traditional sitcom. Word on the street is that the cheeky Grey’s bit features several nods to the actual ABC drama, including one that Supe fans will find particularly amusing. Guesses?

Scoop: 'Friday Night Lights' recruits 'Practice' vet

Categories: Misc.

FNL-casting_lFormer Practice star Steve Harris has booked a recurring role on Friday Night Lights, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The two-time Emmy nominee will play Vernon Merriweather, an ex-football star and the father of East Dillon newbie Jess (Jurnee Smollett, inset).

Harris’ FNL deal calls for him to appear in roughly seven episodes of the upcoming fourth season (premiering Oct. 28 on DIRECTV’s The 101 Network).
