Blind item: Fired actor's pink slip hidden in script!

Categories: Blind Item

ausielloblinditem_lI get that there’s no easy way to lay someone off, but, come on, this is ridiculous: A male series regular on a one-hour drama — a onetime ratings powerhouse — learned that he was out of a job only after reading his character’s death scene in the script!

According to my mole, the popular and well-respected leading man — who tapes his final scenes this week — was blindsided not just by his ouster, but by the tacky way in which it was handled. “He was hurt that the producers didn’t tell him first,” says the source. “He deserved better.” READ FULL STORY »

No, it’s not a clip from Dr. Horrible 2. Nor is it a sneak peek at How I Met Your Mother‘s music-filled 100th episode. Rather, it’s an exclusive first look at Neil Patrick Harris’ show-stopping turn as the evil Music Meister in the Oct. 23 episode of Cartoon Network’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold. NBC pulls 'Glee' cast from Macy's Thanksgiving parade

Categories: Television

A source has confirmed to EW.com that the organizers of Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade were instructed by NBC, which broadcasts the event, to rescind an offer for the cast of rival network Fox’s hit series Glee to perform in the parade. (TMZ first reported the story.) Fox and NBC had no comment.

UPDATE: Macy’s spokesperson Orlando Veras sent EW.com this statement: “As with any live event, the talent booking process is a fluid one subject to frequent updates or changes. Due to this fact, we don’t confirm talent appearances for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade until early November when the final line-up is determined.”

UPDATE 2: Another source close to the event confirmed to EW.com that while the parade has featured talent from other networks — American Idol singers, High School Musical actors — there was concern that featuring the entire cast of a rival’s show amounted to outright promotion.

'Glee' tour in planning stages for 2010

Categories: Music Biz, Television, TV Biz

Attention Gleeks: you may be able to catch all your favorite Glee songs performed live next year. EW has learned that a Glee music tour is in the early discussion stage. It’s not surprising given that the series’ music has been exploding on iTunes and the first Glee soundtrack drops on Nov. 3. Back in July, Fox Broadcasting president Kevin Reilly hinted at the development to EW. “We’ve had a tremendous amount of enthusiasm from our music partners,” said Reilly. ”Certainly if these kids become stars in their own right, who knows? Live appearances. Albums. There’s lots of things that could happen.” While nothing is 100% confirmed yet, co-creator Ryan Murphy tells EW that the tour would most likely be scheduled around spring 2010, once shooting of the first season has ended.

Ratings: 'The Amazing Race,' football win Sunday

NBC’s Indianapolis-Tennessee NFL matchup led most of the night with 13.8 million viewers, and CBS scored early Sunday night thanks mostly to its Sunday afternoon football spilling over into primetime, according to early Nielsen estimates. That overrun boosted The Amazing Race to 13.1 million viewers (up 3.2 million from last week). But the net’s new medical drama Three Rivers flatlined at 9 p.m. with 9 million viewers, blowing nearly a third of that Race lead-in audience (though it was off only about 200,000 from its disappointing debut numbers); that didn’t do much to help Cold Case at 10 p.m., which dropped 25 percent from last week to 7.3 million. Fox’s animated lineup dropped a bit from last week, with the entire Simpsons/Cleveland Show/Family Guy/American Dad block down about 12 percent from last week.

This just in: 'FlashForward' gets full season

Categories: FlashForward

flash-forward_lAs expected, ABC has picked up FlashForward for a full season.

The Lost wannabe (and could be) has been a solid performer on Thursday night, boosting ABC’s 8 pm time period 32 percent over last year (when Ugly Betty aired there). Even more impressive, its premiere episode was the first regular program since Friends to beat Survivor in the 18-49 demo.

ABC ordered an additional (and above-average) 12 episodes of the show, bringing its season 1 total to 25.

The FlashForward pick-up comes just days after ABC granted full seasons to freshman comedies The Middle, Modern Family, and Cougar Town.

'Southland' star on show's axing: 'I'm pissed off'

Categories: Southland

Michael-Cudlitz-Southland_lStill scratching your head over NBC’s bizarre decision to renew Southland only to cancel it five months later before a single season 2 episode had aired? You’re not alone. Michael Cudlitz, who plays gay officer John Cooper on the acclaimed drama, is still reeling from the news. In this exclusive Q&A, the actor explains why he’s “pissed off,” weighs in on the show’s chances of finding a new home, and offers a message to shell-shocked fans.

When did you find out?
MICHAEL CUDLITZ:
[Exec producers] Ann Biderman and Christopher Chulack came to the set yesterday and announced it to the cast and crew.

What was your reaction? Did you see it coming?
CUDLITZ:
In retrospect, I saw it coming. We were two weeks away from airing and [the cancellation news] has created more press for the show than NBC has put into it on its own. They ran the first [Southland] ad — a 30-second spot — last Friday, and that’s the only one that they ran. That’s not a relaunch. When you have a network that nobody’s watching, it doesn’t benefit you to only advertise on your network. READ FULL STORY »

Exclusive: NBC may move up 'Chuck' launch

Categories: Chuck

Chuck-Levi-Yvonne_lIt’s good news (for me), bad news (for NBC): Since its numbers are down and its new and returning shows are mainly DOA (Southland was axed before new episodes even aired!), Chuck‘s third season might get to premiere sooner than the March date that’s been bandied about thus far.

“How much sooner” you ask? READ FULL STORY »

Breaking: ABC orders full seasons of 'Modern Family', 'Cougar Town,' 'The Middle'

Categories: Misc.

Modern-Family-ed_lThis just in: An ABC rep confirms that the network has extended full-season orders to freshman comedies Modern Family, Cougar Town, and The Middle.

Despite experiencing some slippage last night, all three shows have performed solidly in the ratings. Creatively speaking, they’re firing on all cylinders — particularly Modern Family, which continues to live up to all my the hype.

No word yet on back-nine pickups for fellow newbies FlashForward, Hank, Eastwick, and The Forgotten.
