Whether anyone likes it or not, the show was bound to change due to ratings. I love all of the L&O shows for their own unique approach, but the reality is that LOCI was moved to USA to save it from being cancelled altogether and it now needs a fresh approach. I choose to look at the change and welcome it because, whether you want to acknowledge it or not, Jeff Goldblum’s Zach Nichols is a perfect character evolution for the show and a good fit for the USA network.

Yep I feel the same way. Goren and Emes were the show. I am not a fan of jeff or his sidekick. I just see him more as a crazy scientist as in The Fly than as a cop. Sorry to see this show go but thats clearly what is happening.

This change should have happened two years ago!!!! The characters of Goren and Eames had become stale and the writer’s solution of delving more into their personal lives made their stories almost unwatchable. Ross has grated on me since day one and I think he’s the one who’ll end up in the body bag. My favorite pairing was Logan and Falacci, but Nichols is a more than capable replacement for Goren. He has the intelligence without all of the angst!!! I’m really looking forward to a Goren free CI season!!!!

The cast doesn’t matter to me on any L&O show. As far as I am concerned, they are largely interchangeable. The show grows tedious when they start concocting contrived story-lines for the leads rather than leaving the focus on the crimes and investigations. Everyone says the best L&O character was Briscoe. No contrived stories there. He just did hos job.

The writer-producers are what really matter.

Mary-Elizabeth is a fabulous actress – played Evita on Broadway – Maid Marion was a lark.

I like Jeff Goldblum OK, but D’Onofrio and Erbe are what make L&O:CI for me. Bogosian did a good job filling Jamey Sheridan’s shoes, and I’m sure Mastroantonio will do well as well. But Goren and Eames are the real reason I watch the show. Losing either would cripple the show, IMO. Losing both is going to be fatal. I should add that despite D’Onofrio’s more flamboyant role, Erbe is a great, understated, and underappreciated talent.

I like the changes. Goren just grated on me eventually. I just wish that they had kept Alicia Witt. I think she’s terrific and made a great partner with Jeff Goldblum.

We will no longer watch the show with the unfortunate exit of Vincent D’onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, Goren is the ONLY reason why we have stuck with this show all these years.Jeff Goldblum is OK but without Goren it is just like a zillion other cop shows.

Vincent D’Onofrio really is the bedrock of the show, although I hate to see him go along with the other cast memeber, I see a bodybag for Law & Order: CI. To bad

Loved D’Onofrio and Erbe. I like Goldblum and Burrows. MEM won’t make a whisper’s worth of difference.

This has been my favorite L&O since it debuted. I’ll continue to enjoy reruns as long as they’re around. The new characters mean a new show and I have been pretty impressed with USA’s new shows. I’ll watch as long as the stories and characters are fresh.

i will give her a chance. i can not give up my CI.

It’s very interesting to see such a variety of opinion…I think the original cast made the show what it is, but times change – the world turns – it’s only right to add new characters and have a fresh start. I think Mastrantonio and Burrows will do just fine! MEM and Goldblum have worked together on stage in the past, so right there is a sense of familiarity, which will be a plus for the show. Anyhow, I’m looking forward to seeing the new season and glad to see MEM back on screen.

It annoys me that Eames has to leave simply because D’Onofrio is. As her character aptly put it, EK simply carried his water. Eames could have gotten a new partner. It happens in real life.
L & O used to have plots based on the newspapers. Now it has rants based on politics. SVU is now about statistics and morality tales. I’ll stick with the reruns, thanks.

I gotta say that the past three seasons just haven’t been the same, and I think it’s a good thing CI is changing things up. D’Onofrio looked like he was just going through the motions. I am surprised at how much i like Jeff Goldblum, he really is bringing the quirk that Goren had the first few seasons back to the show. Change is good. And come on, it’s a L&O show, cast changes are ALWAYS inevitable!
