Alec Baldwin 'thrilled' to be hosting the Oscars

What do you get the man who has everything — Meryl Streep on speed dial, pockets stuffed with Emmys, the FunCooker prototype? Ah, but of course: A co-hosting gig on the 2010 Oscars telecast! And with his upcoming It’s Complicated co-star, no less.

“I have always enjoyed watching the Oscar telecast,” Baldwin told EW. “I was excited when I was nominated. And now, I am thrilled to be hosting with Dean Martin.”

Wait, that’s…oh never mind.

Steve Martin co-hosting with Stephen Baldwin? Now THERE’S comedy gold!

  • Lay off the donuts, Alec!

    You’re becoming Bill Shatner!

  • Shelly

I can’t believe he’s on a hit show and everyone thinks he is a great guy again.

    • Pumpkin Masher

Shelly you really must remember to take your pills, darling.

      • Shelly

I love how you can never disagree with anything anyone says on this site without people getting nasty. The guy verbally abused his daughter. 30 Rock doesn’t take that away.

and michael vick beat dogs, and michael jackson touched children, and russel crowe beat some dude with a phone, and tom cruise has said some whacky shit, and etc etc.

come on shelly! it’s hollywood, not washington d.c.

And Chris Brown beat up Rhianna, and Kate Moss continues to get work post coke bust, and Christian Bale had a major meltdown on the Terminator set, and so on and so on. I don’t think we were discussing his merits as a human being, merely as an Oscar host.

MJ did not “touch children”, he was wrongfully accused and vindicated in a court of law. the parents of the kids accused him of false actions because they wanted to extort him. if you looked at the facts, not tabloids, you’d know this ian g.

Shelly, do you have a teenaged daughter? I bet she WAS being a rude little pig.

    • Tom Brazelton

On the scale of celebrity transgressions, leaving a mean-spirited voicemail for your daughter in a fit of frustration ranks pretty low.

      • JT

Shelly calling 30 Rock a hit show is where she went wrong.

    • Good points Shelly and JT…

..also MJ certainly shelled out a lot of dough out of court.
He also admitted to sleeping in the same bed with kids and saw no wrong in it.
Would YOU let your kids do that with him?

I totally love Alec to pieces. He’s comic gold on 30 Rock (with two Emmys to prove it..) and I’m definitely looking forward to It’s Complicated. I’ve seen the preview in theaters about five times now, and countless times on Youtube. Can’t wait!!!

i think it would be best if Baldwin hosted as Jack Donaghy, his 30 Rock character, w/ Martin. Donaghy’s disdain for Hollywood on Oscar night would be hilarious!

  • Matt

I think Alec/Steve will be excellent, but what I really wanted was Tina Fey/Steve Martin – I think the two of them would have come up with some fantastically clever bits. Both genius comedians/writers. Perhaps next year…

  • Matt

Fancypants – love your idea! Alec as Jack would be THE BEST.

  • couchgrouch

Baldwin “abused” his daughter? he called her a “rude little pig”. BFD…my dad was an ex-marine and cursed like the DI in Full Metal Jacket. gimme a break…he makes Baldwin look like father of the century. these days if you cut one near a baby carriage there’s some goon on MSNBC rolling tape and audio calling it “abuse”.

    • WPP

Really, the person who “abused” the kid was her mother, the delusional Kim Basinger, who obviously was the one who gave the private phone call to the media. It was more important to her to try to embarass her ex than to care about her daughter’s feelings.

So is it true that STEVE MARTIN & ALEC BALDWIN will be co-hosts of The 2010 Academy Awards telecast? I agree with poster “Matt.” TINA FEY with MARTIN would be much better & funnier. Again, we can’t go beyond a male host at these awards shows…come on, a female host is not such a bad idea. In fact, Ms. FEY alone as the host would be even better. I’m not sure co-hosts work out for awards shows…remember…was it in the ’60′s when The Academy Awards telecast had several film stars as multiple hosts that night…or was that in the ’70′s? Anyway, it was a disaster!!!

    • Danny

The Oscars have had female hosts: Whoopi (twice) and Ellen, and several amongst the multiple hosts. Tina Fey was considered to host or co-host, but her writing schedule for 30 Rock didn’t allow for it. I wouldn’t be surprised though if she is included in a bit or as a presenter.

You forget to say that Alec Baldwin once was a gorgeous heartthrob to die for. He is the proof that some stoutness can only be profitable to middle-aged men .
