The move to Thursday was stupid. We can all pretty much agree on that. I have been thinking about it since I first heard those numbers (and noticed the #savefringe posts on twitter) and here’s my educated guess: Fringe is one of those shows that is better watched on DVR. You rewind to see something that went by too quickly, you re-watch because you want to catch certain scenes again, or you want to view it late at night when you’re alone so you can pay attention and not hear everyone else in your home making whatever noise they make. The show should have “strong” DVR numbers. That makes sense. It could use a strong American Idol lead-in, but is that going to happen? Maybe move it to 8 pm and air 24 at 9? But then again, every trendy show will end up on Thursday night. Who would watch TV any other night?

I recently got into the show thanks to Hulu, and since it follows the best show on TV (BONES)and I have no other must-see shows that conflict with its time slot, I tune in. It won’t ever be a favorite, but I like to catch it, and I just tune into Hulu if I happen to miss it. (Which contrasts with “I-HAVE-TO-BE-HOME-TO-WATCH-IT-THE-MOMENT-IT’S-ON” BONES.) I know Thursdays are supposedly jam-packed with great shows and people DVR away (I sadly do not currently have DVR), but my shows are quite nicely spread out among the five weekdays–although I still have too many, and now V conflicts with NCIS. Then again, NCIS takes and always will take priority.

Love Fringe. Needs a new time if it continues to get hammered because it is a great show.

Fox is trying to kill Fringe. #SAVEFRINGE !

  • Mia

Well I think FOX was stupid in scheduling in the Thursday night time slot especially since it is competing with Grey’s and The Office.

  • mel

    Because it’s thursday night. *duh*
I watch TVD and Supernatural live and dvr flashforward and Grey’s.
I like Fringe but not enough to give up SPN or Grey’s. Sorry!

  • Cindy

OH HELLS NO!!! Fox, you cancel Fringe & we’re done professionally. Forever.

It’s there own fault for moving it to Thursdays, not the show. I still watch religously via DVR and always will as long as the Bishops are around. I agree with other commenters. Move it back to Tues, or heck, even Friday would work for me.

  • Cynthia

Thursdays is a packed night. I watch five shows, and 3 of them come on in the 9 PM time slot. So I need 2 TVs just to catch everything. I agree that it needs to be moved back to earlier in the wk. I’m glad to hear that FOX is still behind this show, but they should take most of the blame for the ratings drop.

I blame American Idol. Fox (and other networks) try to keep good scripted TV off the air the nights that American Idol will be on (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). So that shoves everything over to Mondays and Thursdays. Friday, it seems, doesn’t do well either.

  • Blythe

Yes it was a mistake to put it on Thursday night, the low ratings were predictable, move it back on Tuesday !

  • Manju

Fox supporting is great, but it’s still Fox, they want big guns, everything else is a goner. I still think that Fringe and it’s supernatural stories are just not made for network TV. I think creatively as well as ratings-wise it would do better on cable. Stories about..well, even after checking out the show multiple times I still don’t know what exactly is going on there, which might be it’s biggest audience scare; if people don’t know what they are watching within five minutes, then they probably won’t give it a shot.

  • Justin

Simple solution: Move Fringe to Tuesdays.

  • bto

TUESDAY totally!!! there’s nothing on tuesdays, only “V” but that’s new and who knows if it’ll be good in the long run. Don’t let Fringe die, please!

  • tori

please move it to another night! it was can’t miss/no dvr tv last year on tuesdays. on thursdays grey’s comes first, and it gets watched at 10 or friday. come on fox – move it to another night!

    Tuesday.
