Exclusive: 'Grey's' star jumps to 'Lie to Me'

lie-to-me-casting_lMer’s self-injuring Grey’s Anatomy BFF has hopped the crazy train over to Lie to Me.

Melissa George is joining the Fox drama as an Anna Nicole Smith-type who will go toe-to-toe with Tim Roth, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Her character, Clara Martin, is the sassy wife of an older billionaire who has been murdered. After being exonerated in a high-profile murder trial, she assumes control of her husband’s empire. Lightman sees himself in her — naughty, fearless, strategic, and always game for the next adventure. In other words, she’s kinda nuts.

George will recur beginning with this season’s 11th episode.

Why does people keep hiring this woman! She ruined Alias, she was horrible on Grey’s and now she’s coming to mess up one of my favorite shows. Great, just great :(

    • Katie

Too True! She did ruin Alias and was a train wreck on Grey’s. At least we forget her as the nanny on Friends.

      • Stefan

oh come on guys, it was not her fault that her storyline on ALIAS was just not making sense – she did a decent job.. which could also be said about her Greys stint, it is not her fault that the character was more annoying than bugs on your skin..

      • Rob

She didn’t ruin Alias, her story did. She did a great job acting her part.

      • Alex

Honestly they had no idea what to do with her character in Greys… Terribly written, and I like that show but really

      • Alex

ESPECIALLY considering all the potential they had with the character…. someone whos really self-destructive, and is close to Mer – it could have gone so many cool places and never went anywhere

    • rodo@aol.com

      She’s very bangable! that’s why!

    • KateGee

      I agree – I’m sure she’s a wonderful person but I just can’t stand her acting.

  • Alex

I really don’t think it’s fair to say that about her. Both her characters on Greys and Alias were badly written. She’s a capable actress when given the material – she was nominated for a Golden Globe for In Treatment, remember? You can’t blame her for getting cast as unfortunate characters.

  • Flynn

I think she’s a good actress…but jesus, does she always have to play such unlikeable characters. Just because she was good in In Treatment doesn’t mean I didn’t /hate/ her character.

  • Marie

Yawn….must be a slow spoiler day.

  • Stephanie

Calling her a “Grey’s Anatomy star” is ridiculous. She was on the show (now in its SIXTH season) just a handful of episodes — and she was awful in every appearance. Misleading readers (or attempting to) is just another reason why people stopped reading Entertainment Weekly.

  • R

While I also couldn’t stand her on Alias, I agree that we can’t blame her for ruining the show. Season 3 (when she came) is when the writing on the show went to crap. And her character was just a terrible character to begin with, which is not her fault but the writers’ faults. The fact that I ALSO did not like her acting was just the icing on the cake. :-P But like others said, maybe she’s better when she has better material to work with.

  • Chappel

Great news for me! I like Lie to me and think Melissa George is a good fit… and still one of the entertainment industry’s most beautiful women.

  • Sydney

Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who cringes every time I hear Melissa George will be joining one of my absolute favorite TV shows (Lie To Me) which has been really great this season! As for Grey’s, I had to think for a very long time what she did/who she played: some annoying character. As long as she’s not getting in the middle of Lightman/Foster, I’ll be okay.

  • chris

I agree with many of the comments on here. How do you categorize Melissa George as “Grey’s star”…ummm no more like “Grey’s short lived underwhelming bad actress”

  • Dave

I liked her better before she got her teeth ‘fixed’ …..

  • white

UGH! K.K. on Chuck, and now this. Is there any GOOD news? M.G. cannot go toe to toe with ROTH, it’s laughable. :S

  • Michelle

It’s the chick who can’t decide on an accent! Why do people keep hiring her again?

  • Rachel

I don’t know… I’m willing to give her a shot. I really enjoyed MG on “In Treatment” – I thought her character was heartbreaking. Shawn Ryan’s doing great things with “Lie to Me” this season, so I have faith he cast her for a reason. I also wasn’t so hot about the idea of Erika Christensen in the premiere episode, and was pleasantly surprised by her performance. So maybe, given better material than what she got on Grey’s and Alias, MG will surprise us all as well? I’m hopeful…

  • Rachel

…oh, and P.S. Last night’s episode was AWESOME!

  • bobbi

I did like MG on Charmed, so she isn’t a bad actor. I think she just needs better scripts. I couldn’t stand her on ALIAS
