Exclusive: 'Modern Family' welcomes Minnie Driver

Tags: , News

modern-family-casting_lIt’s time for Minnie Driver to dust off those considerable comedy chops of hers. The actress, whose arc as Megan Mullally’s bitchy, slutty arch nemesis on Will & Grace was a scenery-chewing triumph, has booked a guest appearance on Modern Family, sources confirm to me exclusively.

In an episode slated to air in January, Driver will play a friend and former co-worker of Claire’s (Julie Bowen). The two reconnect after years of being out of touch and things are not exactly how they remembered.

Speaking of TV’s funniest comedy, if you have yet to check out this first look of Elizabeth Banks’ hilarious guest turn in next week’s episode, I have just one question for you: What are you waiting for?

I love Minnie Driver! She’s a great comedic actress. It’ll be nice to see appear in this awesome show.

I still want them to bring Shelley Long back!..best guest appearance of the year so far, would lover for her to become a regular!

    • LC

Shelly Long was awesome! I laughed so hard during the “incident”.

  • Sam

AAAAAAAA! My heart just stopped from pure happiness.

  • Kate

Wow, this show just keeps getting BETTER and BETTER!!!

  • izikavazo

Awww, now I miss The Riches.

  • onestell

“Speaking of TV’s funniest comedy” … he MUST’VE meant IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA!

    • Alex

      definitely agree with you onestell
BUT modern family is pretty funny as well, so i have no problem crowning it the funniest show on BROADCAST tv.
and i suppose i’d give #2 to the office.
      #3….?

      • onestell

Alex … #2 belongs to CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, but I’d be comfortable with THE OFFICE as #3.

I love Minnie Driver! So happy that she’ll be a guest in Modern Family. She was fantastic in Will & Grace. She was brilliant in The Riches. The woman can do anything!

  • Diggity

I love Minnie Driver. She was genius on W&G. Can’t wait.

  • K

This is awesome news, I think she is incredibly talented and I am still pissed off about the cancellation of The Riches.

  • CK

This show’s regular cast is so good, they don’t NEED guest stars. But, glad to see Minnie on this gem of a show!

Why do you keep calling MODERN FAMILY tv’s funniest comedy? It’s not even the funniest comedy on network tv (30 ROCK is a machine gun), and by it’s very nature of freedom, cable is certain to possess the funniest comedy on television, which overall it does, ALWAYS SUNNY (A machine gun filled with dirt). Aus you need to be more careful with how you fling around bold statements willy-nilly, it hurts your credibility. Best NEW comedy, MODERN FAMILY, hands down. You’re a wordsmith, and you’re better than that.

    • John

      Ok…get a life.
      Seriously.

    • markus

Hey Levi P aka PolarBearGreen – take a deep breath. Your condescending attitude is absurd. Just sit back, and enjoy the show. At let us non-institutionalization needing folks have this moment.

      • PolarBearGreen

It was meant as a playful jab, and of course an opinion, nothing more. How the hell are you getting my personal info, that’s the question. Before I report you.

      • PolarBearGreen

        Facebook freak.

    • Sarah

      waaaaaa

    • whale sweater

because humor and the comparative quality of television shows are based on fact, not opinion.

    • Angie

30 Rock is the dumbest show there is.

  • Michael

They have to bring Shelly Long back and bring in Kelsey Grammer as her new boyfriend! How awesome would that be to see Diane and Frasier together on screen again!

  • Dziessica

Very happy, but when I saw the headline I hoped she might be playing Gloria’s sister or something. I know she’s not Hispanic, but they could make it work, and I think it would have been hilarious.

  • leo

    minnie driver is a Goddess!

  • Nick T

    I love Lorraine!
