Exclusive: Justin Theroux joins 'Parks and Recreation'

Actor-producer-screenwriter-all-around Renaissance man Justin Theroux is joining Parks and Recreation (a.k.a. this fall’s most improved comedy) in a major recurring role, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Theroux, whose previous tube work includes stints on The District, Ally McBeal, and Sex and the City, has been cast as a friend of Ann’s (Rashida Jones) and a potential love interest for Leslie (Amy Poehler). His first episode is slated to air in early 2010.

Last month it was announced that Theroux had signed on to produce a big-screen comedy for Paramount set in the world of air guitar competitions. He also wrote the screenplays for Tropic Thunder and the upcoming Iron Man 2. And played everyone from Jesus Christ to John Hancock. A one-trick pony he’s not.

    • angiebatgirl

yeah, really…I thought they were cute together :)

    • Karen

I know, I LOVE Louis C.K. Please tell me they don’t break up!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Jessica

I kind of like him to play Joe Morelli if Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels ever came to screen.

    • Vmars

Totally! I am awaiting the day.

      • Jessica

I’m waiting for the day Veronica Mars gets a movie deal.

Can I just say I lurrveee this man!!! I first saw him years before Stephanie Meyer claimed Muse for the Twilighters, in the best video ever: Muse’s Hysteria! He was brilliant!!! I can’t wait to see him in Parks and Rec!

    • lily

I so agree with you, Muse is one of my favourite bands, Hysteria is among their best songs and that video is truly brilliant…Justin Theroux manages to be sexy, dangerous, attractive and menacing, all at the same time in that video…

  • val

No offense to him, but he looks just like Freddie Prinze Jr. in that pic.

    • Jane

i actually thought it was him, before i read the headline

    • Jane

oh and “no offense”? i would definitely take it as a compliment!

  • bunker

Improved? It didn’t have to improve cuz it was already HILarrrrious!!!

  • blurgh

    No, no! Keep Louie CK!!

    • Lara

      Agreed, blurgh.

      • Chase

Louis CK is going to his own sitcom on FX! You’ll get over it!

  • Riprap

LOVE Justin. I read an interview with him a few years back, and he seemed like the coolest, smartest, funniest, and sweetest cat in town. Good for him!

  • DRock

Wow, guy bears an uncanny resemblance to John Slattery, if he were younger. Someone sign him up to do a young Roger Sterling next season on Mad Men.

    • Robin

Good observation. Both have that whole classical good looks thing going on.

      • DT

Justin Theroux is a good actor, but I remember him most from Mulholland Drive and American Psycho. How does an edgy guy like that fit into Parks and Rec? I mean, it’s good casting and I’m curious about what he’ll add, but he comes across as an East or West coast hipster, not someone from Pawnee, IND.

  • Collin

Is there more Louis C.K. in this shows future? I need more!!

  • K

I will now watch Parks and Recreation for this sole fact. That man is my favorite, ever.

  • Alex

I LOVE me some Justin! How you failed to mention his stint in Six Feet Under I’ll never understand. He played the oboe! Or some such wind instrument.
I’d watch him in absolutely anything. And we really need to see more of him on screen.

    • pinkbunny

I thought it was the French horn.
