'Gilmore' creator's stunning reveal: 'I had a different path planned for Rory'

My ongoing mission to get Amy Sherman-Palladino to cough up those elusive final four Gilmore Girl words is finally starting to bear some juicy fruit. Read the full post.

OH PLEASE let there be a movie! We fans deserve a closure with ASP!!! YES!!

    • Michelle

Maybe we’ll get one right after the Veronica Mars movie…

  • Helene

I think the show turned a little too anti-romantic in the end. I understand they didn’t want to be too conventional with a wedding as a finale, but to make both women lonely was just sad. Can’t they be achievers and be happy? Maybe in the movie.

    • Cardsgal

Both lonely? Luke and Lorelai got back together in the finale.

      • boo

If you mean, deciding to talk to each other and eating in his diner is “back together”.

After watching the re-runs, I really want Rory to end up with Dean. . . Jess & Logan were jerks in the long run; they didnt get the relationship between Rory & Lorelai

    • Jackie

I wholeheartedly agree! Dean was always my favorite too. He really did get the relationship between Rory and Lorelai, and out of all of Rory’s boyfriends, he was the only one that I really felt loved her and cared about her more than he did about himself. It would be great if they ended up together, really come full circle, sort of like Lena and Kostas in “Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants” (another Alexis Bledel character).

      • Me2

I completely agree with you too; Dean really did seem to love her.

    • rgarrett2

Do you honestly think Rory would be happy with a life with Dean? I feel like she would be settling big time to play housewife with him…they don’t fit, as made obvious after many awkward meetings in season 5.

      • Jane

Yeah, and don’t forget that Dean broke up with Rory three times!

  • David

How was it immature for ASP not to watch? Can you imagine how hard it would be for her to watch the characters she created doing something she never wanted them do? There was nothing wrong with her not watching season 7.

I find it funny that ASP is very positive about a movie, while Lauren Graham doesn’t seem to have heard anything about it from ASP, thinking its just fans wanting one.

    • Namni

Oh, she watched. Don’t believe that she didn’t watch.

  • Kelly

I would LOVE to see a Gimore Girls movie. I am a huge fan of the series. However, I think the show went downhill when Ms. Sherman-Palladino quit writing for it. I would love to see what the creator and original writer has in mind for the two ladies.

  • Luddite

I’d certainly watch a movie if one was made (though I have a hard time believing everyone would come back to make it). What I’d like to know is where it would pick up – where we left off at the end of season 6? Because I’d love to forget the whole Lorelai-Chris thing ever happened.

  • Tati

OH PLEAAAASE.. That would be so amazing if there was a GG movie! The show definitely took a turn when ASP left… and having all of them..including her come back for a movie..would be a dream..it would definitely give the closure we didn’t get from the series finale.

  • Deborah

I find it a huge coincidence that ASP now talks about GG on the initiation of her new HBO series. Looks too much like she is trying to get all the GG-shippers to follow her like Pied Piper to her new series. It’s all about Timing — Doesn’t one think that 4 years (at minimum) between the end of 7 and a “hypothetical” movie is too much time between Rory/Jess; Rory/Logan; Lorelai/Luke — Rory will be at minimum 26 years old. Lucy has put too many footballs out there for me to kick. I’m not buying it — and all that LG and AB has said in the past about GG states firm that (using LG’s own words): “It’s over.” Nice try Amy — right idea — bad timing.

  • Brett

Let it go, people. The show wasn’t that good or popular to warrant a movie.

  • sadie

I really want a GG movie, but have it a bit more dramatic, like have luke die..or following the comments above have rory get pregnant by Logan and Logan die. Lauren and Alexis are more than talented enough to give the GG a bit of a dark edge.

    • Marie

Yes. Then she would go running to Dean who would marry her and take care of her and the baby, inspite of the horrible way she treated him. Dean truly loved her. And, I liked Christopher and Lorelai together.

  • David4

All she does in this interview is come as an ass.

She wrecks the show with all the fighting, the Dean storyline was lame, Rory’s rich ass of a boyfriend storyline was lame. Luke having a daughter was super lame.

She then left the show! I don’t give a damn what she would have done! She drove the show into the ground and then ditched to start a horrible new show. The way GG ended was great and doesn’t need a movie.

    • Namni

      Word!

  • stephanie

I think a movie would be great

  • Anonymous

I actually liked the way the series ended. I agree that the beginning of Season 7 was not strong, but ASP put the new team in that place. The end of Season 6 was horrible, and that was all ASP. I thought the new team did a good job taking over a beloved show and actually dealt with the Christopher issue (maybe some didn’t like it, but they at least ended the thought that some had that Christopher was Lorelai’s true one), and left you with Lorelai back with Luke, Rori on her own (and roughing it a bit), and Lorelai still with a relationship with her parents. I was satisfied.

  • Elle

:O BEST INTERVIEW EVER!!!Is there more on her new show?ANYHOO I NEED A GILMORE MOVIE!This is awsome overjoyed that their talking about a movie this has made my DAY!

  • SarahT

Actually Brett, the show WAS that good and that popular. Besides, popularity (at least on the ratings side)isn’t the only means by which they decide to do a movie. Case in point-Star Trek. Three seasons, ratings disappointment but did well in repeats and they brought back TEN years later in a motion picture (followed by multiple successful spin-offs and other movies). See also, Firefly. And I believe Arrested Development the movie is pretty much a go so it can happen. There is enough of a fan base with this type of thing to make into a movie and I believe a successful one at that with AS-P on board.
