Exclusive: Brooke Shields aims for 'The Middle'

What’s the suburban equivalent of a lipstick jungle? Food-court forest? Mommy morass? Apron woods? Well, whatever you call it, Brooke Shields is making her way there in early 2010 via a guest appearance on ABC’s The Middle.

Shields is playing a neighbor-nemesis of Patricia Heaton’s harried middle-class mom in an episode slated to air in January. “She’s a single mother with four sons that terrorize the neighborhood,” says an anonymous Middle man. “Everyone wants to stay on her good side. Patricia’s character tries to keep the peace.”

BTW, after being pre-empted last week, The Middle returns with an original episode tonight. Thought you should know.

If this means I have to see less Brooke Shields commercials, then yay! I can only take so much of her hocking – er, I mean, “endorsing” Colgate, Coppertone, Tupperware and eyelash viagra before I finally lose it.

    • Jason

Amen, Jen. She is on WAY too many commercials.

    • Harrison

“Eyelash Viagra” — good one! She was also in VW commercials, but I don’t think they are airing anymore. In any case, love this show and am looking forward to seeing her on it.

  • Jane

    I’m loving this show!

    • John

      Agreed – tonight’s episode was LOL-a-rific!!

  • Morgan

Great casting! Brooke Shields has comedy chops and I’m looking forward to seeing Brooke and Patricia facing off against each other. This is a show I cauht by accident because I didn’t think it would be very good, but I ended up thinking it was hilarious.

  • VisualFiction

Wow, I’m shocked that a show that is getting ZERO buzz is hiring an actress that pretty much kills every show they put her on.

      Rena Sofer was busy?

      • BCT

        Cold! :)

    • kathy C

She was on several episodes of That 70′s Show and it continued just fine after her stint and she’s done some appearances on Hannah Montana and it’s still on; so not sure what shows she has killed? Lipstick Jungle? That was more the writing than anything else or Kim or Lindsay (Eastwick anyone?)

      • BCT

That’s true. Suddenly Susan was on for like 5 years, too. Lipstick was just not as good as Sex and the City, which it was too closely tied to for anyone to forget about. It was getting better creatively, but didn’t have the viewers. I wouldn’t blame Brooke.

  • Gayle

My husband and I are fans of the show as well as Modern Family. I’m looking forward to Brooke joining the show.

  • Susan

Ooh, that’s going to be a fun episode. Can’t wait. Who’s the guy who said the show is getting Zero buzz? I hear about it all the time!

  • KatyMay

As a family we love the show. My kids really look foward to it, and I’m sure Brooke will be good.

  • bunker

This is a very good show. I especially love the actress who plays the daughter. She’s hilarious.

    • John

Haha my mom loves her too!

  • Joe Davis

Geez, can’t they hire anyone closer to Patty Heaton’s own size? Her TV husband is a foot and a half taller, and Brooke Shields will tower over her as well.

    • bates

      art imitates life…

  • Dave

I’m excited that this show is commanding some big names! Can’t wait to see it!

  • Kyle

    I love the show!!!

  • Jed

Question remains…can it command better ratings or will it be a one-season and out kind of show? Not too fond of Brooke Shields at all.

  • Melinda65

My daughter will be happy to see Hannah Montana’s mom on the show. We love The Middle, particularly Sue and Brick.

  • dee
