Ratings: CBS wins Wednesday, ABC and NBC fight for second

CBS continued to dominate Wednesday in the ratings, with CSI:NY and Criminal Minds standing as the evening’s most-watched programs, according to preliminary Nielsen numbers. The race for second place, however, is also something worth tuning in for: ABC averaged 7.3 million viewers, led by Modern Family, Cougar Town, The Middle, and Robin Roberts’ sit down with Janet Jackson; NBC averaged 7 million viewers, with freshman drama Mercy topping the 8 p.m. hour.

Glee got good numbers! Glad Mercy is hanging around. I like that show too! Love Criminal Minds (but I DVR it).

  • brandon

wow, top model did almost as well as jay leno…

  • Karla

YAY for Criminal Minds, yesterday´s episode rocked and the upcoming one is going to be awsome : 100th episode!!!!

  • Derek

I wish that they would put the cable shows on this list too…. Would LOVE to see how many people are tuning into SONS OF ANARCHY.

    • Sparky

Try TV by the numbers.com – they usually have those numbers…

  • Tim

Another week of ‘Glee’ underperforming. Please stop referring to this show as a ‘hit’. It’s not.

  • MikerMan

hey FOX, why don’t you put GLEE on Thursdays and bring Fringe back to life on Wednesday?!?!? Thanks

  • Jackie

@Tim – it’s a hit for Fox. Other than AI and that dance show I don’t think they get great numbers on anything else.

    • Sarah

umm…House, Bones, Lie to Me, 24 when that’s on bring in strong numbers.

  • quagmire

As far as ratings go, Glee is a big hit in the demo their advertisers want. Plus, the ancillary revenue from other sources (song downloads, potential concerts, etc) probably make more for Fox than the show itself.

    Bring Back Eastwick!!!!
I find it strange that it got cancelled when it had the same ratings (or close to) alot of what I see above.

ABC sux. I am no longer watching ANYTHING on ABC – I’m downloading it if I need to….

    • steve

ummm i could be wrong but im pretty sure Eastwick’s numbers by the end were lower or maybe equal to leno’s. Which are far lower than almost everything up there sorry.

      • meso soup

You may be right Steve but I tire of the same old doctor/CSI/reality shows that have taken over TV. Some variety would be nice.

      • steve

        Yeah thats very true.

  • graeme

Great numbers for Old Christine, Modern Family, and Cougar Town! Deservedly so!

  • Fatima

Does anyone know what the second hour of ANTM was? I found out who won, but I usually watch later. Did they do a reunion? I can’t recall a two hour finale ever before.

  • Matt2

Great catch, Tim. Glee and SYTYCD often get labeled winners for having mediocre at best numbers. SYTYCD even got beat by a repeat of Modern Family which is a bonafied hit. Meanwhile the morons that label these shows hits trash DWTS and DWTS: Results Show for bringing in 19 and 16 million viewers respectively. And you can’t even argue demo numbers because both segments of DWTS consistently average above 3.0, while SYTYCD is struggling in the 2.0- 2.5 range and Glee has never had a show above a 3.5. So unless you are a complete idiot neither Glee nor SYTYCD is a hit
