damn, they really could have gone a different way and not make the costumes too cheesy, if they didnt want to waste money making the costumes look real, they could have added a little more civilianlikish outfit.for exmaple, bart allen and green arrow arent exactly wearing their true costumes which if they did, it would have looked too cheesy.

    • Tarc

The costumes are supposed to be OLD – Hawkman is coming out of a significant retirement for the events of the show, so the costume is SUPPOSED to look like it’s Silver Age.

      • Lex Luthor

Hawkman is supposed to fly. With wings. Not something he got out of a costume store.

      • Tarc

Considering that this is the real world, and that wholly CGI wings would look both bad and stupid, I think your expectations are faulty.

    • Orac

You’re missing the whole “mystery men” aspect of comics in the ’40s. Costumes were primarily to hide their real identities, not to make them look realistic or good. Just be thankful they didn’t use Uncle Sam.

      • Chloeville

Oh, so the costumes are to hide their identities? Why didn’t I think of that? Explains everything. Maybe the reason the 21st century is so eager to forget these heroes is their terrible fashion sense.

      • Orac

Chloeville, if you stop being a bitter shrew like Chloe in Smallville you might accept the spirit of the early comic stylings instead of worrying about what they look like. Cheesy was part of the package. And clearly the postings here prove the 21st century hasn’t forgotten them.

Best show on TV right now.
I am glad they are finally showing the super heroes in their costumes.

I too am hoping for a Justice League spin off.

People should stop hating on quality TV shows like Smallville.

  • Dan

I’m stoked for this. The Society has always been one of the coolest of DC’s properties. I’m glad they are getting to finally step off the comic book page! Go Hawkman!

  • liceth

the costumes remind me of Watchmen. Very nice.

  • Kalie

    AWESOME!! Thank you, Ausiello!

  • Harv

I thought Halloween was back in October.

  • JRWolfe

Note to the CW,put the Lerose Place ad budget into promoting Smallville’s “Absolute Justice.” This photos are great :)

Originally watchmen was supposed to use the JSA, but because of legal issues he had to create new characters.

    • Fansworth

nope they were meant to be charlton comics characters DC had recently bought but the multi generational aspect as well as the Silk Spectres being homages to Black Canary of the JSA and Black Canary of the JLA shows an element in the inspiration

  • Sly

    I smell spinoff!

  • mrgray

Hm. I wonder if we could get Sandman Dr. Fate… Also, Supernatural and Smallville should do a crossover involving John Constantine. Because that would rule. (nerdness expelled)
